[Game] Kings @ Clippers - 10/25/13

I'd rather not fight from 10+ points down every night if this preseason is any indication of how the regular season will go so long as Vasquez is starting at PG.

I don't think that's quite fair. It's not just GV. Our starting lineup tonight was ... well ... ineffective to say the least.

Giving up on players before they have a chance to settle into their roles is half the reason that the Kings have been in the position they've been in the past five years.

Nobody is saying to give up on Vasquez. But I'd sure like to see him earn his minutes, and thus far he has not.

Thornton always looks better when the game is up and down, kind of helter skelter which IT always brings...., doesn't seem to do as well in the slower paced speed the starters play.

And? This team is not in "win now" mode. Vasquez getting acclimated to playing with the starters is more important to the success of this team in the long run.

I don't know. This is a make or break year for GV and IT. Both free agents next offseason, and I doubt we keep both of them. This season is immensely important for both guys long term.

i think the only one that anybody can come up with is that they don't want to "rush it and ruin his development"

And there is some validity to that statement. I think Ben is gonna dictate his role by improving and being hungry. Thornton certainly isn't showing that he really wants to be out there...

It isn't like Vasquez had a terrible start to this game either. 3 assists and 2 rebounds with 0 turnovers was decent. The only other points were from free-throws and an offensive putback from Cuz.

This has been the most comfortable Thornton has looked all preseason. Getting easier shot attempts and he's actually competing on the defensive side. Has 4 rebounds

Outlaws length on D has really bothered the Clippers ,everytime he's been around deflection, block or rushed shot.

Oh, totally. It's not just GV, but out of the bench guys playing well who could conceivably fix the starting unit, IT is that guy.

I'd start IT, McLemore, Salmons, Patterson, and Cousins if we are basing the starting unit solely on how players have played this preseason.

I don't like IT with Thornton or Jimmer. I like him a lot with Ben, and those guys have consistently played well together this preseason which is why I'd start them both.

"Earning your minutes" is important, I suppose. IMO, it takes a back seat to establishing a consistent rotation, and giving your players the confidence to play their way out of a slump. If you train a player to think that he's going to get the hook if he doesn't start the game playing like an All-Star, he's going to be gun shy.

Ben McLemore is going to be a star in the NBA and Kings only have one on their roster right now - if he can stay on the court long enough to actually qualify as such.
