what was the last movie you watched?

Not surprisingly, I also saw Wanted.

There is no part of me that can say this is a good film. It's not. The plot is laughably bad, the dialog is trying way to hard to be bigger than it is, the moments that don't involve violence are PAINFULLY slow.

That being said...

I'm fairly certain it will be added to my DVD collection upon release. :D

Also, the silly part of me that liked this one was going ape**** over the preview for Death Race. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, Statham.....

Wanted! I came in expecting some B level action movie. I don't know if my thoughts changed but it was very entertaining. I was more entertained than when I watched the Incredible Hulk.

Death Race looks like Twisted Metal the videogame mixed with the Running Man. I'll probably end up seeing it.

Aaaaaaand to satisfy a completely different part of me...

This afternoon I saw Wall-e. I loved it bunches. The folks at Pixar remain miles ahead of the competition in animated features.

I just re watched Best of the Best. Although I have not watched it since I was a kid. It might even make my top 20 list. I had forgot how cheesy it was. Still like it. Eric Roberts is a STAR it is his best work to date. The movie is comic gold.

Also watched Be Kind Rewind and In Bruges this evening.

Be Kind Rewind was considerably better than I'd heard, but still not quite as good as I'd hoped. Worth watching, though. In Bruges was an even darker dark comedy than I'd anticipated, but I thought it was really good. The writing was clever and Brendan Gleeson, Colin Farrell, and Ralph Fiennes all gave good performances.

i saw this movie today ( i was treated- glad i didn't pay for it ;)) and feel the same way . i mean this movie was just bad. really bad. though i must admit to being pleasantly surprised at how nice mrs.jolie looked in it. she is still very sexy (despite the medias constant snapping of pics portraying her as an anorexic)

as for death race, well to be honest it doesn't look any better quality wise. movie looks pretty horribly predictable.

I also saw Hancock today and really enjoyed it as well. Funny that the previews really don't give you a good idea of the story, and I am just fine with that in this case. ;)

g3's reviews are 2/2 today. this movie was considerably better than i had thought it would be. hardly a farrell fan, i agree that along with Gleeson and Fiennes (who i think is underrated) he did a really nice job.

over the weekend I also saw Lust, Caustion and the brittish film Revolver with Jason Statham. Lust, Caution was good but not great and didn't really live to it's full potential in my opinion. Revolver was just ok, hardly a blockbuster. andre 3000s poor acting sure didn't help things out.

Chungking Express by Wong Kar Wai

Superb film by the Hong Kong master. I don't think I could listen to the song California Dreamin' again without Faye Wong popping up in my head.

Literally just finished up watching The Simpsons Movie again. First time in a year since I saw it last summer in theatres where it blew me away. I had no idea it would be that good. Luckily I had forgot many of the jokes and it was almost as funny this time around.

Plus its the best animation you'll ever get for the Simpsons and it was in HD (yes, an HD cartoon. and you can even tell the difference there too). Being a Simpsons fan for as long as I can remember, it was pretty spectacular.

Saw a trailer last night, I actually think it looks like it will be fun (stupid but fun), which is surprising since it appears they ditched the killing pedestrians for points angle of the original and turned it into the Running Man sans Richard Dawson which on paper sounds like the dumbest idea ever.

Saw Wall E last night with my two cousins, it was probably the best movie( animated or otherwise) i have seen in a while. It even got my 5 year old cousin crying by the end of it, it was very heart warming.

Saw Hancock on Friday. I sort of felt the same way about it as I did about I AM LEGEND. The acting was superb, the story was pretty good, but could have been better. It had me laughing pretty good on a few parts, and then some other parts were just cheesy and predictable, like most summer blockbusters. I would have made a couple of changes to make the story a bit deeper, but I won't complain about it.

7/10

They did what?

That would be typical of the totally ballless behavior of modern Hollywood beancounters.

Yes, although I think its a bit ballsy to completely drop a cult film's gimmick from a "remake", though it seems more like this is an "inspired by". And the trailer at least made it look like the action scenes would be decent, and I gotta admit I'm a sucker for cars with guns. But the trailer also gave away far too much plot which is unfortunate.

In any event, its gotta be better than the Rollerball remake.

It's a move that's getting tons of interwebs backlash, actually.

The director -- who did, I think, the silly/fun/bad (first) Resident Evil -- has explained the decision as being an intentional way of making this film more of a prequel (my word, not his) to the Corman flick, rather than a complete remake. It can be assumed, for example, that the rules of the race in the new movie would eventually morph into the rules presented in the original movie. The subtext is that the door is being left open for a sequel, though I think that may be a bit of a reach.

I personally think it's a lame decision, and think that the director's explanation is an even lamer copout, but... come on... Statham + cars + guns? Like I'm really going to protest.

In reverse order, most recent movie seen at top of list, in the last 3 weeks have seen:
Wanted (spouse thought it was a comedy, I liked it but it was....different)
Hancock (sorta like I am Legend but loved the giant twist in middle)
Wall*E (with 2 grandsons) Was great, music was great/unexpected.

Despite trying not to get too hyped for it, I gave in and saw Hellboy II this afternoon.

I must admit, I really enjoyed it. There's something about this franchise that I find very likable. I'm sure there are plenty of things people will find to criticize, and I'm also sure that most of those criticisms will be perfectly justified, but as I was watching the film I didn't care one little bit.

Well... except for in the case of an art historical inaccuracy in a few of the early scenes that annoyed the hell out of me. But, I only noticed that because I'm a nerd.

I caught a sneak of The Rocker with Rainn Wilson the other day. The kids were annoying but the adults were funny.

Also watched Find Me Guilty on the OnDemand, this movie which I had never heard and supposedly bases most of the lines on actual courtroom testimony was hilarious if that's actually true. So Brick, please don't go spoiling that for me.
