I won two free passes to see Kung-Fu Panda tonight, so Dad and I will go. I want to check it out before our little guy goes - he wants to see it. Hopefully it's OK for his age group, but I think I need to see it first....
Rated PG for cartoon kung-fu violence only (and lots of it) - no language, blood, etc. to be concerned about at all.

Pretty decent movie, especially for kids. Predictable ending, but that is to be expected here.

Lots of pretty cool kung-fu action. Not bad at all.

So I enjoyed the new Indiana Jones movie, but it wasn't a good movie. The action was fun, the killer ants were incredible, but it just left me feeling ... I don't know, sort of ... ehh ... it just wasn't that good of a movie.
In general, I kinda agree. It was Indy in spirit, but the movie wasn't that great. Kinda "out there" and many things were pretty poorly explained. And it also had a very "Hollywod" ending. But, still better than the second one. ;)

I finally got around to watching The Mist last night.

I am generally not a big horror fan (was it even really horror? I'm not sure), and specifically not a fan of King's, but I got much more sucked into this film than I expected. Sure, it was INCREDIBLY cheesy -- especially the CG "bad guys," which were so poorly rendered that I actually found it both distracting and comical -- but I thought the dynamic of people reacting to an unknown threat was handled quite nicely.

Don't get me started on this movie. I was very disturbed by the ending. Very original, I will give them that but, disturbing. In fact King didn't write the ending. I was written by (don't feel like looking it up) I forgot but, King agreed to it and he loved it.

Maybe its because I have a 4 kids with one of them being a 2 year old son that made me put myself in his situation and it just bothered me.

I really liked that movie. It had some boring parts but overall it kept you interested. And it wasn't your typical ending

The Incredible Hulk. I actually liked this one better than the first one.
Ditto that. Some holes, though. I haven't seen the first one in a long time, but I recall it not being anywhere as good as this one.

Spoilers:

So they didn't kill the bad guy in the end???

Since when is the Hulk bulletproof?

I think very few caught Lou Ferrigno's bit in the movie, or maybe they just didn't know who he was, because very few people laughed at that scene.....

OK, and I watched the 2003 Hulk this afternoon just for comparison.

Yeah, I still think the new one is better. The old one has him jumping like Superman. All the little artsy bits thrown in here and there were annoying (little symbolic junk while he's changing, multiple camera angles on screen at the same time, etc.). I did like a few things better in the old one, but overall the new film is better in my book.

Stranger Than Fiction

I was pleasantly surprised.

yeah, i didn't care for that one so much.

i recently saw both the mist and volver. the mist sucked, sucked, sucked. even the end twist didn't save this one. volver, on the other hand i thought was pretty damn good. i liked it way more than i thought i would. i didn't even mind penelope cruz in it, which is saying alot since i usually can't stand her.

Almodovar is one of my very favorite filmmakers, foreign or otherwise, and I loved Volver. If you liked that one, you should check out some of his earlier films. Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown is probably my favorite of his, but may be more of an aquired taste. All About My Mother is the best of his recent films (in my opinion), however, and definitely worth watching.

Oh, and Penelope Cruz suffers from Antonio Banderas syndrome -- fantastic in her native Spanish, not so much in American films.

I watched Lars and the Real Girl last night, and The Incredible Hulk this afternoon.

Lars and the Real Girl was... interesting. Generally well made/well written/well acted (I particularly liked the guy who played the husband -- don't know if it was his first real role, but he was unfamiliar to me), and I can see why it was appealing to other viewers, but I didn't really enjoy it. Lars' loneliness, and how he works through it, may have been charming to some, but it was heartbreaking to the point of uncomfortable for me. Quite a good film, I think, but an unpleasant viewing experience.

The Incredible Hulk, on the other hand, was great. I think that the people calling it as good as, or better than, Iron Man are just plain silly, but I still very much liked it. Tim Blake Nelson was especially fun. Also, I will go on record as being incredibly skeptical about the choice to remake a film from five years ago, but after watching it I think it was definitely wise to just pretend the Ang Lee version was never made.

Shoot 'Em Up - while I like Clive Owen, this movie was not good. At all. Not even as a bad movie trying to be bad.
I saw that one opening weekend and was so determined to like that one that I somehow managed to convince myself that I actually enjoyed it. Now that I've had several months to digest it, however, what little I remember is just chock full of suck.

The Ultimate Gift

Very good movie. I thought I would never like this movie but I was surprised. It does seem a little heavy handed but it is still a good movie. BTW Abigail Roselin is hell of a little actress. I am impressed with her body of work although it is small sample of what is to come.
