So, Löwenherz has timed out... what is going on with this thread? Has everyone stopped participating? Maybe you all see that I have dominated the draft and have all opted to give up?
Sorry guys, Emergency Services called me out to an unexpected extended shift.
And this morning I've been waiting for a ruling by our Commish, but I don't want to hold this up any more.
Plus, it's better to ask for forgiveness than permission right?
OK, this isn't going to make me very popular, (I'm just hoping I don't get banned) but I'd like to point to Rule 4, Section B which states:
You can only pick a movie unless it is legitimately out (in the US or elsewhere) on the day of your post.
It's the "Elsewhere" part I'd like to focus on. Because while Americans have a few days to wait for my next selection, in Australia it is currently July 16th ... also know as the release date of:
The Dark Knight - 2008
I am so exceedingly excited about this movie, I'm willing to pull a Red Auerbach-drafting-Larry Bird move to get it on my island.
I've read all the reviews (including the three negative ones on Rotten Tomatoes) and watched every clip and trailer available online.
From the top reviewers I've gathered The Dark Knight is less of a superhero movie and more of a dark, complex and scintillating Crime Drama on par with HEAT and The Untouchables -- truly examining the conflict of vigilantism and the law (among other themes).
Plus, The Joker is among my all-time favorite villains right up with Hannibal Lector and Cathy Ames, and Heath Ledger's interpretation of him echoes the murderous sociopath that was the orginal intent of Finger, Kane and Robinson.
Also, I have always been a huge fan of the back story of Two Face/Harvey Dent and felt cheated by the Tommy Lee Jones version (and the fact that Two Face was considered too dark and frightening for the Adam West TV show). I can't wait to see Dent represented in the grittier style of "The Long Halloween" on the big screen rather than Jones' living cartoon.
I have my I-Max ticket for the early hours of Friday morning in hand ... please don't take this away from me
