Have to ask as it seems we're only afew hours from a timing out here -- did the Lizard get his PM?

I don't know if Lizard got a PM, but I am guessing Lizard is going to pick Kazaam, being a huge Shaq fan, like so many other Kings fans.

Well, if you're really sure I think it would be perfectly acceptable to make that pick for him if he does not show up. :D

Well...I'm not 100% sure here, but I think first LoungeLizard timed out, and then the commisioner timed out of his own draft as well , + it would be on to Montys.

I was up? haha, man....i go out of turn and then miss my turn. I guess you don't get a PM when the dude before you times out :D well, here goes I guess. this one's easy, since I already made it a few days ago

This was yet another great theater experience for me when I saw this, as you could just feel the action in the room. This movie is jam packed with it, along with good actors, and one of the hottest women alive.

The Italian Job - 2003

Charlize Theron, Marky Mark, Ed Norton, Seth Green, Mos Def, and even Donald Sutherland. This thing definitely has the cast, and it had the script too. I loved it. Man, I haven't seen it in a while though, need to go watch it. I, personally, like it much better than Ocean's 11, as they are two similar movies. I remember several of my friends thinking the same way. This movie just has more flair, just as good of an ending, and a couple great chase scenes involving mini-coopers.

Best news is, The Brazilian Job is about to start filming and will be out next year. I can't wait.

Juggling again....

A League of Their Own - 1992

I could explain this one...but, geez...it's about baseball, duh. What else would I need to like it? And it added "There's no crying baseball" to the lexicon. Double duh...

Sorry...sorry....sorry.

Kazaam just barely missed the cut.

The Count of Monte Cristo (2002)

I had to bring this one along to the isle. If you have ever been wronged by someone and sought revenge/vindication then this movie is for you.

Yeah...definitely one of my favorite books, but damn if that movie did not bastardize it. Especially the fight at the end. Hello Hollywood!

Guess any Monte Cristo is better than none, but seeing what they did to that great story made me want to go down to L.A. and kick some major screenwirter butt. Wonder what Joe Wright could do with that story?

As for my own, just a second. Really not sure which way I want to go here, and am acutely aware of only having 4 picks left to cover a number of bases.

Otay, after much hemming and hawing and flatout procrastination...

Searching for Bobby Fischer (1993)

A rather excellent movie about chess of all things. Except its not any more than the first Rocky was about boxing -- its about growing up and being human. Based on the true life story of Josh Waitzkin, who is an American chess master who grew up in 80's at a time when everybody really was looking for a new Bobby Fischer in every child prodigy, it works as both a drama and a "sports" movie, and is blessed with not only a top flight cast of actors (Ben Kingsley, William H. Macy, Laurence Fishbourne, Joan Allen, Joe Mantegna etc., but also cameos from a number of the top American chess figures of the time. You don't need to know chess to get this movie, but if you do, it gives you an extra geeky thrill.

So, Löwenherz has timed out... what is going on with this thread? Has everyone stopped participating? Maybe you all see that I have dominated the draft and have all opted to give up?

Sorry guys, Emergency Services called me out to an unexpected extended shift.

And this morning I've been waiting for a ruling by our Commish, but I don't want to hold this up any more.

Plus, it's better to ask for forgiveness than permission right?

OK, this isn't going to make me very popular, (I'm just hoping I don't get banned) but I'd like to point to Rule 4, Section B which states: You can only pick a movie unless it is legitimately out (in the US or elsewhere) on the day of your post.

It's the "Elsewhere" part I'd like to focus on. Because while Americans have a few days to wait for my next selection, in Australia it is currently July 16th ... also know as the release date of:

The Dark Knight - 2008

I am so exceedingly excited about this movie, I'm willing to pull a Red Auerbach-drafting-Larry Bird move to get it on my island.

I've read all the reviews (including the three negative ones on Rotten Tomatoes) and watched every clip and trailer available online.

From the top reviewers I've gathered The Dark Knight is less of a superhero movie and more of a dark, complex and scintillating Crime Drama on par with HEAT and The Untouchables -- truly examining the conflict of vigilantism and the law (among other themes).

Plus, The Joker is among my all-time favorite villains right up with Hannibal Lector and Cathy Ames, and Heath Ledger's interpretation of him echoes the murderous sociopath that was the orginal intent of Finger, Kane and Robinson.

Also, I have always been a huge fan of the back story of Two Face/Harvey Dent and felt cheated by the Tommy Lee Jones version (and the fact that Two Face was considered too dark and frightening for the Adam West TV show). I can't wait to see Dent represented in the grittier style of "The Long Halloween" on the big screen rather than Jones' living cartoon.

I have my I-Max ticket for the early hours of Friday morning in hand ... please don't take this away from me :)

I actually posted about this a long time ago, wondering if the draft was still going now, who would be up in time to pick it. I knew it was going to be one a lot of people would want.

I'm going to allow it, I guess, even though I would rather you actually see a movie before you draft it (all reviews + previews does not = seeing the whole movie).....guess that's not in the rules though, heh.

Thanks tradepeja! This whole thing really fell into my lap and I knew the movie wouldn't be around when the draft snaked back to me.

But because I understand the spirit of the draft and the general shiestiness of the move ... when I see The Dark Knight on Friday morning, if I don't like it, I'll forfeit the pick.

Promise :D

Ok since i have yet to choose a romantic comedy for my island. This is the one.

Notting Hill (1999)

432px-NottingHillRobertsGrant.jpg

There is several reasons why I loved this movie. One is the actors which I like. Another is; in my early teenage years one of my dreams was to go to Hollywood and marry a beautiful actress. Well suffice to say that the dream did not come true; but hey I get to relive the dream through my movie.

I thought that one was a clever reversal of the normal rom com sex roles, and also perhaps some sort of self referential play by Ms. Roberts, as her character could very well be her herself.

Right now I have about 5 movies competing for 4 spots.

Missing out on the Incredibles, I think I do need an animated movie for a little variety. This one is a favorite of my son's and is a lot of fun to watch. Gotta have a little something fun like this available on occasion. :D

Cars (2006)

The basics from wiki:

Cars is a 2006 animated feature film produced by Pixar and directed by both John Lasseter and Joe Ranft. It was the seventh Disney/Pixar feature film, and the final film by Pixar before it was bought by Disney. Set in a world populated entirely by anthropomorphic cars and other vehicles, it features the voices of Owen Wilson, Bonnie Hunt, Paul Newman, Cheech Marin, Tony Shalhoub, John Ratzenberger, George Carlin, Michael Keaton, and Larry the Cable Guy, as well as cameos by several celebrities consisting of Bob Costas, Darrell Waltrip, Jay Leno, Arnold Schwarzenegger Michael Schumacher, and Mario Andretti.

Cars premiered on May 26, 2006 at Lowe's Motor Speedway in Concord, North Carolina and was released on June 9, 2006 to generally favorable reviews. It was nominated for two Academy Awards, including Best Animated Feature, and won the Golden Globe Award for Best Animated Feature Film. It was released on DVD in late 2006 and on Blu-ray Disc in late 2007. Related merchandise, including scale models of several of the cars, broke records for retail sales of merchandise based on a Disney/Pixar film, with an estimated $1 billion in sales.

The soundtrack is also pretty good, with Cheryl Crow, Rascal Flatts, John Mayer, Chuck Berry, and Brad Paisly.

The Terminator (1984)

I completely forgot about it until now, so if my eyes are not deceiving me nobody has picked it yet? Cool, I'll have it. I remember first seeing this movie when I was 14 and it just came out. I couldn't believe how cool and original it was. How things change... T2 had better effects and huge budget for action scenes but Terminator has stood the test of time well for me.

I was debating between T2 and the original for a while but went with the sequel. Good choice.

Time for more funny (and more Depp :o).

Cry Baby (1990)
-- I mentioned several picks ago that Jim Jarmusch is my favorite director. Well, incongruous as it may seem, John Waters is right up there with him. I knew that I absolutely had to have at least one of his films on my island to add to the general theme of chaos and utter depravity (emphasis on the depravity part in the event that my babes and movies get to be on the same island). My initial leanings were toward some of his earlier and more raw works (I feel pretty safe in divulging that I was thinking initially of either Female Trouble or Desperate Living, in case any of the other weirdos are curious), then toyed with a few more of his recent films, and ultimately went back and forth between six or seven very strong contenders. Somehow, however, I think I always knew that this would be my choice. Especially when considering frequent multiple viewings. It's absolutely hilarious, has a great look (definitely one of Waters' prettiest films), has a legitimately good rockabilly soundtrack, a really fun tone, and, oh yeah, Johnny Depp. At prime yumminess. Making a jail break in his knickers. For that, John Waters, we thank you.

Just to stay with GGG's theme....

Benny & Joon (1993)

Love this Depp movie. Maybe not his best, but it worked for me.

As I lifelong hater of romantic comedies I REALLY wanted to despise that film, but I just can't. It's cheesy as hell, and I love every minute of it. It was on my alternate list.
