Playoff Update (Merged)

By the end of the month we should hold the seventh seed again. We play Golden State (home), Washington (home), Portland (b2b), and Golden state (Away).

The Lakers have New Orleans (home), San Antonio (home), and Seattle (b2b).

If we take care of our business, we should recapture the 7th seed. Oh yeah and the Spurs cannot, cannot, cannot let the Lakers beat them again.

Lakers have a definite leg up on us for #7 now with almost all of their remaining games at home. Its not out of reach, but its kind of out of our hands -- we blew our chance to get the angle this past week, So, all things conisdered, it might be better to see the Lakers continue driving the nail in the Hornets complete collapse while we basically all but wrap up #8. (NOT where I want to be BTW -- I am on record that missing the playoffs and getting a shot at the lottery might be better than another pointless first round spanking as a sad little #8 seed. But as long as that's the way we are trending be nice to at least be able to wrap it up relatively early, take what shots we may at #7, and then maybe even rest our guys a bit during the last couple of refular season games.)

Don't want to look pedantic but tie-breaker will be determined by division games before conference games...
No it won't.

Two-Team Tiebreaker
1. Better record in head-to-head games
2. Higher winning percentage in conference games
3. Higher winning percentage within division (if teams are in the same division)
4. Higher winning percentage against playoff teams in own conference
5. Higher winning percentage against playoff teams in opposite conference
6. Higher point differential between points scored and points allowed

At this point it looks like they are reasonably safe in the 8 seed barring a collapse by the Kings or a sudden surge by Jazz or Hornets.

But Lakers seem to be keeping pace to 7 seed.

Which means a first round exit for Kings I am afraid.
Lakers will be hard to catch. They have a relatively cushy schedule coming up, and the Kings schedule is brutal in April. I would love to catch them, but I think an 8 seed is very likey, assuming we can keep winning and not slip.

I'm sure they'd do something very scientific... like flipping a coin or actually playing a pre-playoff game to determine who would get the slot.

I would rather miss PO than having Lakers help us getting there
I'm with you on that, Piksi. If we have to barely squeak into the 8th seed, at least I'd like to do it with our own play, and not because somebody beats other teams for us. That would be the height of pathetic.

And that, fellow Kings fans, is the textbook example of cutting off one's nose to spite one's face.

;)

piksi - The Lakers aren't winning to help us. They're winning to improve their chances of not being replaced in the seedings BY us.

Sorry, but when you carry your hatred of a team to the point where you want your own team to suffer that's just silly.

Tonight:

Hornets at Jazz: Big game. Hopefully Hornets win, as for the rest of the season they aren't as strong/experienced as the Jazz are. I think the Jazz will be really hungry to win though.

Wizards at Warriors: Yeah, isn't about the Warriors (and I'd say won't be for the rest of the season), but about the Wizards and us. Wiz should win this with the Warriors playing us the night before, and not having Baron Davis. Then, the Wiz come to Sac the next night, where I think we have an expected advantage.

that was not the point. The point was that some "fan" were rooting for LA to beat the Hornets because it would be "better" for us. I am not buying it.

I personally wanted the Hornets to win because I know that if the Hornets win, they arent getting anywhere anyways. and it brings us up in the standings by beating LA.

We have the 8th spot secured. Theres no possible way that a team like the Hornets and Jazz will catch up to us.

I guarantee you that. =]
NO, we do not have the 8th slot secured. Do the math...

That's different, then.

;)

With the confusion about seeding, how teams move up and down, etc. I wanted to make sure people didn't think it was a lock once we got to the 8 position.

GO KINGS!!!

i took a gander at NO and Utah schedules and they are as brutal as ours. The play each other twice in fact Utah just won the first matchup. The both play the Texas Back to Back like we do.
