Kings active in trade talks?

Do you guys think Thornton has made himself nearly untradeable? He really doesn't bring anything to the game at this point. Honestly his defense has been the best part of his game this year. That is how far his offense has fallen. Why would a team want to trade anything for a shooter who can't shoot and doesn't really bring much of anything else to the table? Unless a team is banking on him returning to his former self, I don't see him having any trade value at this point.

The hope potential is that he is a "streaky" player. He's in an extended cold streak and lost touch and feel. It is possible to come back from this and sometimes a change of scenery is enough to spark a return

He has negative value. You wouldn't get expirings for hom

@WojYahooNBA1m
With @SpearsNBAYahoo: The Toronto Raptors and Sacramento Kings are discussing a deal centered on Rudy Gay, league sources tell Yahoo.

Whoa...wow. That's Woj talking too. His hit percentage is as high as any NBA reporter.

I canvassed that possibility last month. Much to say both for and against it. But it would once again be a question of us trying to take advantage of this season of tank, rather than tanking ourselves. We'd be trying to win, and trying to add a 2nd star. The real question is does Gay have any conception at all of deferring to anyone. We'd also have to eb clearing out a whole bunch of our junk contracts in order to be able to match $$.

Based on everything you have ever typed, I would assume this would make you wretch and call for all the heads that PDA has.

As long as some of those unwanted contracts on our end are gone, this could be a good move ......if as Brick mentioned he understands he's not the 1st option here. I still think Memphis cost themselves when they traded him.

I hope this makes sense to someone. Given that PDA is active and seems to broadcast what he is doing, I wonder if it really means anything.

If its Sam Amico it doesn't mean anything. If its Woj...it means we are talking about something, whether it happens or not.

It's salmons, Vasquez, Patterson and Hayes

I actually dislike each of these 4 players.. so certainly not losing anything to try him out... lots of variables, like how he will potentially influence our record this year, as I'm sure that's a big reason why Toronto is trading him, to tank

Not entirely. I was from the beginning pissed off that that little gerbil shot our chances of competitiveness in the foot by letting Reke go so he could go chase his own little boo boo safety blanket in Iggy, and then missed on him. I viewed it as missed opportunity when you had all this local momentum, and then you take a dunp on it. it was insutlting really.

Anyway, I do in fact get tanking, but damnit, we have DeMarcus Cousins here, emerging into his prime. We should have Demarcus cousins and Tyreke Evans both emerging into their primes, but whatever. We have a young star. We're 8 years out of our last playoff appearance. We're really largely beyond the tanking stage of the team's life cycle.

And I have several times hinted at an alternate strategy that I saw out there. And that was to take advantage of all the tanking teams to try to assemble a team of stars around Cousins we could never get in other circumstances. Cousins is our #1. We got him. We just need to get #2s and #3s, and in a year when everybody is looking to lose, we might just be able to do it. Boom. Assemble an instantly in its prime playoff caliber team. I'm not requiring that of the front office. In normal circumstances its not even a rational demand. But this year, under these circumstances, I have seen that possibility, and even floated Rudy Gay and Rajon Rondo as two names who could be Cousins' #2 and #3, with IT off the bench.

The problem is I don't trust Rudy Gay not to be selfish. But he's a real talent if Malone could control him. If he would back off the extra chucking...well here's how you could quickly build a competitive team around Cousins with lots of years left on his contract.

My thought is that Thornton will be traded for capspace and that is due to IT. IT's value is way over his contract and that means not resigning and not trading him is the worst possible move. So if you're not trading IT then you're resigning him and you want the capspace to do that. You no longer have John's contract coming off the books.

One bizarre scenario would be trading Thornton to the Grizz for their Rudy Gay trade exception.

That's the ultimate task at hand here...because we already have a guy who plays alot like him in our budding/athletic/not afraid to shoot Rookie of the Month Ben Saclemore..., so how is Malone going to work Gay in with Saclemore and IT, who are our other 'chuckers'? 3 chuckers won't make for a happy DMC, right?? BUT...if those 3 guys buy into the 'team' concept and don't 'require' their shots, and work for the betterment of the team...THEN we have something. This ball is totally in Malone's court now, he needs to do HIS job now that he has more than enough of a decent core of guys now.

Was that even really a miss, though? I mean, I hate football, but I spend enough time online that you pick up a lot of it by osmosis, and I'm pretty sure that, just because you're "First and Goal at the one" doesn't mean you're actually going to score.
I hear ya...hence the 'lol'...just poking a little fun at Woj, just like I did at alot of the nat'l media types when they all but counted us out. I respect Woj as a very investigative/precise journalist...he's always been one of my faves that I follow.

It might not mean that you're guaranteed to score, but I'd hazard a guess the odds are something like 1 in 100 that you won't.

Are you suggesting that you thought we had better than 100-to-1 odds of keeping the Kings, at the time that the comment was made?

Here's an excerpt from an article from Mark Stein at ESPN.

"Next up? League sources told ESPN.com that the Kings will be trying to find a new home for forward Jason Thompson, who presumably wouldn't quibble with a fresh start after the arrivals of Gay and Williams to play alongside Cousins.

It remains to be seen, though, what sort of market exists for Thompson, who received a five-year contract extension worth just more than $30 million from the Kings' previous regime under former lead executive Geoff Petrie, who selected the 6-foot-11, 250-pounder with the No. 12 pick in 2008.

Thompson is earning $5.6 million this season, $12.4 million over the next two seasons and $6.8 million (albeit with only $2.7 million guaranteed) in 2015-16. Thompson's contract also contains a 5 percent trade kicker."

To the salary experts on the board, isn't JT's contract fairly valued? It's not like the Thornton contract, right?

Pondexter is out for the season in Grizzly town they might won't some scoring wings in Thornton or Outlaw

We just traded for their scoring wing. Dips. :p

But yes, last month we were talking about the possibility of sending Thornton to Memphis given their complete lack of scoring punch on the wings. unfortunately my target was Ed Davis, who suddenly got ore important when Gasol went down.

Nope. I'm saying that if you have First and goal on the one yard line, the chances are 99 out of 100 that you'll walk away with either a touchdown or a field goal. Upon reflection, however, I think the odds are probably a little less...more in the 80 out of 100 range. I'm only talking about football here... ;)

I wonder if we have the ability to get Alec Burks . I would love him as our 3rd guard. Young and athletic and can play both guard positions.
