Carl Landry Out 3-4 Months

When did he injure the muscle?

Looks like he just injured it recently during training camp.

Landry likely suffered the injury during the team’s stint in Santa Barbara. According to the Kings, Landry sustained the tear during a “recent training camp practice”. - See more at: http://cowbellkingdom.com/2013/10/1...out-3-4-months/#sthash.sRJi4bna.77937kKf.dpuf

well im glad we do have the plethora of PF's now

kinda, right? when I heard this my immediate reaction was "well, could've been a lot worse.". him and Cuz are kinda slotted into the frontcourt future anyway, gives the rest of the guys more audition time. then again, my indifference stems mostly from the fact that I'm mentally prepared for tanking anyway.

Damn. Was looking forward to him leading the bench. Our super bench was one of the things I was looking forward to watching this year.

Welp, time for Chuck to step up

wow what a disaster... i mean could happen to anyone at any age. But i guess the real reason we signed him was because he was going to have Malones back in the locker room/help with the transition, as well as mentor. Hes a role player at best.

at least he will be back in time for us to trade one of these other PF's.

A bad signing getting even worse. Regardless, he's here now and I wish him the speediest of recoveries. We are going to need some scoring punch down-low.

OK GONNA PUT A POSITIVE SPIN ON THIS....

Carl wasn't going to be traded this year. HOWEVER... i think its this teams top priority to trade either patterson or hayes, at or before the all-star break along with jimmer, thornton and salmons. This injury gives Both Patterson and Hayes critical time to showcase themselves and increase their trade stock. Where as if Carl was healthy one of those guys is likely to be banished completely or they both split the time and play little to no mins a piece... I think this injury is in the strangest of ways a great thing. Hayes is probably the teams top choice to be traded if possible due to his contract. He could very well remind the league how its nice to have a premier post defender stashed on your team for the playoff time. ??? we can hope haha.

While I understand what you're trying to say, I cannot agree that saying an injury is a great thing is putting a positive spin on something. ;)

The one injury this team could absorb. A lot of teams could do worse than Hayes as a 4th big, so this will give the team a chance to do as you say, showcase one of the non-Cousins bigs for a trade.

im not in anyway celebrating someone being hurt (like the Texan football fans did their QB). Im literally looking at what has happened and pointing out that in fact there is a positive greater good that could come of this... sorta like a well maybe things happen for a reason kinda attitude. I wish him well in his recovery and look for him to be a solid role player for this team. in the mean time whats done is done and during this time it SERIOUSLY could benefit the team that these other two jokers PATTERSON AND HAYES can play themselves onto another team, and land us maybe a pick or a SF in return

Nothing much to say here. I obviously did not like that signing and anticipated trouble with it down the road as our aging undersized tweener began to lose athleticism on an overpriced deal, but I obviously wasn't expecting there to be a major issue this soon. Just bad luck. Given that the same thing happened to David Lee though, I think I do want somebody to go have a talk with the Warriors trainer and introduce him to the karaoke stretching drill.

Would be kind of nice if we had brought back Aldrich/brought in a legit NBA 5th big into camp, but maybe this will shake a little urgency into the front office and get things moving.

As far as on the court, as I said, I thought the signing was misguided, and so I truly don't know how big of a dent its going to put in our prospects. Landry is not in another class from JT and while I think he's better than Patterson, Patterson does have a handy skillset. Guess the biggest thing would just be if Coach Malone was right about his odd plan to use Carl as some sort of defensive captain or something. But that always seemed to me to be pretty dubious, so I'm far from convinced it will have much effect there either. We should be all right here, or at least nearly as all right as we were before this news. Heck, if it gets PDA to pick up a phone and make some calls about loose shotblockers, it might even end up helping in the long run.

really feel bad for Carl and ill be very upset if the result of this is Chuck Hayes playing a lot. but at least now there isn't a cluttered PF spot.

and i like when teams use a 3 big man rotation, so i would love to see Malone do that with Patterson/JT/Cousins. where JT plays the Center during Cousins breathers/foul trouble

Bad break for Carl! I guess I was a little more optimistic about what Landry would bring than Bricky. I just didn't like the price. But I can't legitimately criticize what I haven't yet seen. However, since I haven't seen it yet, and we still have our front line from last season, I guess I can't miss it either. They said he'd be out for 3 to 4 months. Its been my experience that its almost always the latter that's closer to the truth. which would mean we'd get him back in feburary sometime, and probably out of shape. At that point, there probably won't be any reason to bring him back. Hey, it could be just the break Hamady N'Daiye has been looking for.

By the way, I don't think Aldrich has signed with the Knicks yet. At least I haven't read anything about it recently.

Too bad for Landry. But this loss comes as part of a double-whammy in hearing that Mbah a Moute's knee is going to be a constant problem. That probably means he's not going to be the nightly defensive ace that we were hoping for.
So that leaves us with only Vasquez as one of three offseason veteran acquisitions courtesy of D'Alessandro.
Good thing our McRookies are so far looking like great picks.

This was a signing that I didn't like at all. I have to work extra hard to see a positive in the signing. Giving faith to the coach, though, I really wanted to see what made Carl such an attractive ball player to Malone. I guess I wait a year to see how he will fit in.

I find it difficult to envision how he would rip a muscle or even what the surgery would be like. It sounds pretty bad.

Now we need PPat to step it up. This will be his make it or break it year with us and there will be no excuses about minutes.

Wait, when/where di we hear about Mbah a Moute's knee being a continuing issue for us? Just because of last season? Or was there news I missed?

Coach Malone was quoted (by Jonathan Santiago) as saying about Mbah a Moute and the Kings medical staff, ”They’re trying to help him rehab, get it stronger, get him back on the court. But I think what he has is something that he’ll have to deal with throughout the season.”
And then Malone was quoted (by Jason Jones) as saying about Mbah a Moute, "Some days he's got to battle through it, and other days he may have to sit out and try to get back to where it was."

Luc Mbah a Moute (sore knee) and Carl Landry (strained quad) did not practice Saturday.

Mbah a Moute was held out of Thursday's preseason game against the Los Angeles Lakers.

Malone said it's Mbah a Moute's right knee that is sore, the same knee bothered him while playing for Milwaukee.

"Some days he's got to battle through it and other days he may have to sit out and try to get back to where it was," Malone said of Mbah a Moute...

Landry's injury will put any trade involving the power forwards on the backburner. The chances of making a deal by the January trade deadline just went down.
