Tropical Island Movie Draft Thread - ROUND 20 FINISHED!!!

If you are dropping out of this one for the babe thread, make it a official and post in here. I think we are only 1 away without drop outs, but I want to know the real number
Someone other than me should make a list of the players. And who leaves the movies game for the babes game?

The one thing about this (and the movie thread) that could be a little annoying is the books or movies as part of a series. For some, the books or movies work best as a complete set; picking one out of the series doesn't reflect the greatness of the entire series (typically, there are obviously exceptions).

I have a couple in both areas that would really hurt trying to select just one of because of this....

Of course the flip side is that just means folks can each choose one movie and everyone gets to spread the wealth......

So, do you think we should make a rule where people can take full sets of movies? Like instead of picking just picking Scary Movie 3 because it might be your favorite, you are allowed to take the whole set of 4?

Its not like we'll be short of movies even if people are allowed to take sets, plus then the epic double movies/trilogies/quadrologies will be clear 1st and 2nd round picks and we'll get to the more specific tastes of people much more quickly.

It's a thought. Not sure if it is a good one, but it is an option. Means those choosing first have a real good chance of locking up some pretty popular series of films and those at 15 and 16 may be fuming.....

Just depends on what you want to do. With CDs this really isn't an issue. With books and movies it is, or at least a potential one.

Good solution might be to have me select first so I don't get upset about it. ;) :D

alright, so i decided i am definitely in (though i feel like this will be my weakest showing out of the three threads)

i wonder who'll be the first to bust out this gem

I really don't know what the fuss is aboout sereis of movies. Allowing somebody to draft the entire LOTR series (an obvious example) would be rampantly unfair on sheer volume alone and would virtually guarantee that the entire first round was spent running around scooping up series.

One single movie, period. Pick your favorite of the series and hope the others are still there later. No problem, right?

I'm fine with that, just posing the question early to get it out of the way. ;)

This had to be the first movie I remember distinctly being repulsed by the notion of it being considered comedic...it might make the top 3 on a list of movies I would be forced to watch if I was banished to hell.

;)

And yet the first time I watched it long long ago, there were several scenes which I found laugh out loud hilarious (including one where they break out a staple gun to get the corpse's toupee to stay on).

Having been unfortunate enough to see a few minutes of it a few years ago more or less by accident I must however claim the indiscriminateness fo youth as my excuse (although the staple gun thing still sounds like a funny idea given the right treatment).

Alright, that's #16. Anybody dropping out, let me know before 3:00 PM tomorrow, otherwise the draft order and drafting will begin.

Edit: I will postpone the beginning of the draft for an hour to 4:00 PM because I'm not sure how many people have actually seen this message. 4:00 PM is the final time though, so if you get to this after 5 and still want to drop out, try to find someone to replace you in the draft.

And with the first pick of the 2008 KFM (Kings Fans Movie) Draft, Dime Dropper selcects ;

The Shawshank Redemption (1994)

Whoa, first pick...so many options. My main reason for picking this is that it's a classic and I'm certain it won't last until my next pick. It's an amazing film and IMO is as worthy as any as being one of the top films in the KFM draft. It's not my favourite film, but I have a feeling some of my others may last 'til later, so I'm taking a chance. I'm a huge movie fan, although I do need to catch up on the older films (I've never even seen the Godfather movies :o which BTW I'm pretty sure will be taken soon).

Anyway, TSR may be regarded as a reach by some, but there's no doubt in my mind it would have been taken within the next 30 picks.

Well...back to the drawing board for me....shoot...

Shawshank would have held me over if i could only take one movie to this island...

Nice pick out the gate....

Reaching or not, you were right to pick Shawshank now; it would have been sitting on my island before you ever got another chance. Well done.

Geez, first pick of the draft and my strategy already has to be revamped.

Wow great pick, I was wondering whether or not to go with that at #1. Guess you made up my mind :D

You send a PM? Things seem slow around here the past couple days

There's a very good reason for the 24-hour time allowance. Not everyone is going to be spending massive amounts of time sitting at their computers as it gets towards summer. Just the fact you have people signed up for at least one and often two threads like this during TDOS shows a lot more interest than a lot of boards could garner.

Patience, grasshopper.

:)

For some reason Shawshank had not even occured to me, but its a very strong pick. Been wondering how to go about this whole thing so as to mix actual good movies with entertaining ones (the two are not always the same). Shawshank is a great example.

I'm obviously not quite stupid enough to think everyone signed up for these things sits around at their computer with the thread open jamming F5.

I was just referring to the fact that on one day we had something like 17 picks done in the music draft, and 8 people sign up for this draft. I guess its normal for things to slow down on the weekend though.

Anyway, you're right. The 24 hour limit is there for a reason.

It's also Memorial Day weekend. I really wouldn't be surprised if D-Mass was gone for the long weekend.
