The SF Question

Which of these high-dollar SF options would you pursue with our cap space?

I'd be interested in both Deng and Granger, mostly because their contracts are running out and if it doesn't work out with one of them, they wouldn't be on the books anymore at the end of next year. Williams and Green are more interesting from a future perspective, but might be more expensive in acquisition. Iggy and Kiri represent commitments that I wouldn't be comfortable with, considering the current roster construction. Marion and Ariza don't do much for me and I'd rather have a Wright/Barnes type instead of them. I absolutely loathe both Rudy Gay and Josh Smith, especially at the salary they'd be commanding.

If Celtics go into full tank mode could we trade something for Green?

Would it?

Aside from Asik who I'd be glad to have, that's a lottery team.full of unproven players. And anybody thinking of having Thornton behind McLemore has to understand that by doing so you doom us to pay out the rest of Thornton's contract, because 8+ million for a bench player playing 20 minutes or fewer unless your lottery pick scrubs out isn't going o inspire much trade chatter.

As I've said elsewhere, its all about Cousins right now barring a major All Star type player with that caproom. He has to be huge if he's going to be carrying around a pack fo roleplayers and rookies on his back.
We will play Thornton major minutes if nothing esle just to get his trade value up by the deadline so that we can dump him for picks and expiring contract to free up even more cap space for next year.

I suspect we could do what GSW did with Kwame Brown a few years back when they signed him to a monsterous contract to reach the minimum salary for the season, and do so with a SF out there. Maybe someone like AK47 for a year or Dorrell Wright for a year on major money.

It's pretty obvious we have decides to break it up, get a good draft pick next year who hopefully is a perennial all-star in waiting, preserve cap space for next year and hit the FA hard! We could have as much as $20 million cap space next year and that is assuming we don't shed any more salary!

Capspace for a Sacramento team coming off another 20-something win season is roughly as useful as plastic fruit to a dying man.

+ I think you had better watch out for Cousins. He's tired of losing.

PDA was reported saying he wanted a vet SF that can come in for a year or two and really shoot the deep ball.

Boston isn't trading Jeff Green, he is the centerpiece of their rebuild.

What about Gerald Henderson? The Bobcats extended a qualifying offer of $4.2million so we know what the price is. Yeah he has played SG but has the athleticism for SF (maybe a little short at 6'5). He has a nice mid-range shot and better than average defender.

nope you can pretty much bet we are gonna be getting dorrell wright type player. not sure what we do with rest of space

Then its time for him to start doing something about it

Then of course we could give Outlaw a starting chance to see if that solves his and Kings problem. He has all the attributes, size, the hops, shooter out to 3pt, and maybe even can defend. Pencil him in as a starter for 8-10 games while seeing who else can be had. Then again, the Summer League may have a diamond in the rough to push a vet like Outlaw. (thwfftttt! sound of taking my tongue out of my cheek but hey who knows what might work).

The Kid Lighty was an MVP in the French league and took an 8th seed to championship. Thats impressive at any level.

Borrowing from MassKingsFan for a moment:

Vasquez/IT/McCallum
McLemore/Thornton
????/Outlaw (assumes Salmons is amnestied)
Cousins/Aldrich/Hayes
Thompson/Patterson

Thats 11 contracts and way under cap. Based on what I saw Cole Aldrich should be Cuz backup with Hayes doing his magic when needed based on matchups. Anyway another view of the Stew being created by new Chefs Malone and D'Alessandro.

I'm starting to get the sense (and it's nothing but a sense) that AK47 might be our play. One of the few teams with a clear open SF spot and cap room. With this Howard / Iguodala stuff a lot of teams just fell out of the running for him, and it's been so quiet on that front. Haven't heard a word about him in a while.

I could get on board with that but, it would be nice if something had even been mentioned about it before.

we seriously gotta get out of the mindset of trying to force square pegs into a round hole.

He has rejected us in the past hasn't he? He might not go along with the want to play here concept. I like him, but it looks like he wants to get paid. At this point you have to seriously consider whether or not you want to add a guy who will get you 5-7 more wins for this coming draft

I think it was a polite rejection in that he was clearly interested. Considering where it leaked (CarmichaelDave and Grant teasing it) it left me believing a deal was very close. Close enough that those guys started to get the fanbase excited about it. Sure, he changed his mind, and how did that work out for him? The Timberwolves weren't exactly great last year.

I don't think he is against coming here, that is for sure.

And Brick mentioned something in a other thread that I couldn't agree with more. Cousins needs to win now, or at the very least we need to prove to Cousins that we are heading in the right direction. Add in the new owners and season ticket sales momentum - this team is in no position to tank. That's one of the reason why letting Evans go and pulling back the Iggy offer was so questionable. We need to improve this season more than many other teams do. Alot Riding on it, so yes, I would go after AK.

We need to forget about needing to know everything the front office is doing, and think about letting them do it first. I'd rather they conduct their business privately than make it pubic and open it up to the relentless scrutiny that seems part and parcel of today's sports fan agenda.

If Davis stays healthy that team has suddenly gotten all sorts of interesting. Need a new big body inside now, and they are set.

Apparently they are trying to take my precious Omer Asik from Houston for Ryan Anderson ... I'm sure they'd rather have old friend Pattrick Patterson :)

Seriously, though, Asik on that team makes me sad. They are doing everything I wanted this team to do. Pretty scary team they're forming.

Yeah they get him too I seriously will be watching that team as often as I do the Kings.

Yah, best perimeter defense in the league and you throw Davis behind them. That's a team that's had a tremendous off season. Trading away the 2014 first rounder looks fine now that they've assembled a playoff roster.

As for the small forward question, I think we're best just signing someone who will be serviceable and a good chemistry guy for a year. to get to the cap min and not screw our cap space long term. We aren't getting an impact guy this year, and we aren't a playoff roster, so I'd say fill out the roster, be entertaining and bad, which is what most Kingsfans seem content with right now.

Next season hope to score a second star to go with Cuz in the draft, and use the money to fill out around whatever guy you get. Don't limit your money now when you don't know what second guy you need to complement yet. Of course you have to find a way to extend Cuz now, or you're stuck in a whole new rebuild, but that was always the risk letting Reke walk and not getting another guy back.

At this point in the offseason, my biggest fear is our FO panics and we dump another Chuck Hayes contract out there that we regret for years. I just want to see us realize we're stuck, and if we sign someone make it a one year thing.

Considering we have to spend the money, Luol Deng and Danny Granger's expiring contracts seem most likely. The sad thing is we have to give up yet another asset for the privilege of adding one of them to our roster for a single season. Igoudala, Kirilenko, and Smith are unrealistic. Rudy Gay would be the best punchline to the "we can't afford Tyreke" joke. That's a contract that would actually cripple our cap situation, though only for 2 years. Marion, Ariza, and Green are decent players who make us just good enough to maybe challenge for the 8th seed in the playoffs. Pass. Based on past comments, I'm apparently the only person on this forum who likes Derrick Williams but I think he or Moe Harkless (not in the poll) are the only guys I would actually be happy for us to acquire because they are young, talented, and we might actually have a chance of keeping them in Sacramento.

i was thinking the same thing when i saw the rumor of them going after asik.

With the reported Asik for Anderson deal in the works, the Pelicans will be a VERY VERY good team for years to come. They are stacked with great young talent. Wish the Kings have the balls to do what Pelicans did this off-season. If they get Asik in that trade, they get A+ for the work they have done so far and NO is a smaller market than Sacramento!

It is a bad sign when we are being outsmarted by a team called the Pelicans.
