Ric Bucher-Songaila rumor (merged)

I would do a Songaila for Nocioni trade. Nocioni is a better perimeter defender and will get into his guys face. He'd be much more useful to us this year than Songaila. Unfortunately, Chicago would never give us Nocioni.

I have seen him play before You heard of him and I stay by my statement. Team which depends in any way on his scoring or rebounding will never be any good.

He does both scoring and rebounding, and more. He's not even a starter yet, but the Bulls are so balanced in the rotation he gets good minutes.

"You've heard of him" Yes I have, but I also saw a lot of Bulls games last season.

"I have seen him play before" What's that mean, once, twice, thrice, a good number of times?

If you're staying by your statement of "he's just a physical player and nothing else", then you haven't seen him enough or much, or are just being plain ignorant. In that case, the guy clearly isn't just a physical player, and nothing else.

He had a real solid rookie season.

Kings113 - You can make your points without the continual use of the word "ignorant" in one or more of its variations.

You and piksi can disagree without it resorting to insults and name calling.

I was just putting out a possible reason. I doubt it's that one anyways, but is the lack of seeing the guy. Which I've pointed out twice is understandable and fine, but if so, he's writing the guy off and not saying "what I've seen of him, which isn't a whole lot or much". When Nocioni is more than "just a physical player".

Here's the deal...

Certain words are triggers. Ignorant is one of them. You can make your comments without them, especially in the context you've used so far with two different members of this forum. I'm asking you to please refrain from doing so in the future.

Thank you.

(Replying to a post earlier) i would rather give away darius songaila to the bulls than trading him for eric piatowski. Man that would almost be as bad as making one and only one offseason move all summer by signing greg ostertag. Oh wait... we have already done that...

Yeah, I don't think we really need Piatkowski, unless we want three-point shooting off the bench... we should get a pick with him too if we did. I'd much rather get Adrian Griffin (unrestricted FA) and a pick if needed, I would think he'd be cheaper too. He is also more to our needs. I wouldn't be against or disappointed in getting Piatkowski, just don't really think he's needed.

"Sacramento forward Darius Songaila visited the Berto Center on Wednesday to meet with Bulls general manager John Paxson and the coaching staff. Songaila is a restricted free agent and it’s unclear whether the Bulls plan to sign him to an offer sheet or try to negotiate a trade with the Kings. Complicating matters is the fact that Sacramento’s payroll is already above the luxury-tax threshold, so the Kings do not want to take on any players in return." Arlington Heights Daily Herald

"The Bulls could sign Songaila to an offer sheet using their remaining salary-cap exception (most likely worth $2.2 million) and hope the Kings don’t match. But they could not send a draft pick to Sacramento in exchange for the 27-year-old native of Lithuania without giving up an equal salary in return." Arlington Heights Daily Herald

"Bartelstein raised the possibility of involving a third team that has a trade exception available as a way to send Sacramento a draft pick, but he is not sure how things will play out. The Bulls are willing to include shooting guard Eric Piatkowski, who will make $3 million next season, in a trade." Arlington Heights Daily Herald

"By adding Songaila to the roster, the Bulls would have extra depth in case center Eddy Curry is unable to play or decides to retire because of a heart condition. For now, the Bulls expect Curry to play next season. The team could also cut down the workload of Antonio Davis, who turns 37 on Oct. 31." Arlington Heights Daily Herald

So, sounds like it can go any of the three ways for Darius/Kings.

i think that the kings will either match any offer (within reason) to songaila... more than likely, i think the kings would prefer to do a S&T for two 2nd round draft picks... at least recoup their initial investment, when they traded for him from boston... the bulls will have to find a third team with salary cap room or trade exception to do the trade...

With the salary situation, and the roster as it is...I think Darius is gone. Petrie may have to just let him walk.

I would do a sign and trade; with Darius and Kenny thomas going to the Bulls for Antonio Davis. That way we can get rid of Kenny's contract and improve the defense at the same time. This I think will out weigh any draft picks that we would get.

For that to happen Chicago would have to agree to pay Darius at 6 mil plus per year, if that. Antonio Davis makes 13 mill plus this next year and there's no way that Darius' new contract plus KT's will even come close to that.

We could also work a third team in the deal by giving up Corliss or a draft pick aswell.

I don't think we will match any offers for Songaila. We have too many options at PF. We don't need another one. If we can work out a sign and trade where we get a trade exception and pick(s) then we would have done well. Somehow, i don't see us matching any offers for Songaila unless the offer is REALLY low and you get a good player very cheap.

Songaila could soon join Bulls

By Mike McGraw - Daily Herald Sports Writer - August 26, 2005

The Sacramento Kings will not match an offer sheet given to restricted free agent Darius Songaila, according to numerous league sources.

Kings general manager Geoff Petrie even suggested to the Sacramento Bee that his team’s roster is complete, except for the future addition of a low-cost 13th man.

“The roster we have at the moment, the way it’s comprised, are the guys who will play all the minutes,” Petrie said.

If that’s the case, Songaila appears headed to the Bulls. Before finishing a two-day visit to the Berto Center on Thursday, the 6-foot-9 forward spent time checking out real estate, according to one source.

The Bulls could sign Songaila to an offer sheet using their remaining salary-cap exception (worth either $1.7 million or $2.2 million) but may spend a few more days trying to orchestrate a three-team deal that would allow them to pay Songaila a higher salary.

In theory, the Bulls could send shooting guard Eric Piatkowski to a team with salary-cap room or a trade exception.

Sacramento would get a draft pick in the deal and the Bulls could pay Songaila a starting salary of up to $3.85 million. The chances of that happening, however, may be remote.

Songaila, 27, averaged 7.5 points and 4.2 rebounds in a reserve role for the Kings last season, his second in the NBA. He’s regarded by many as one of the top free agents still on the market, but circumstances worked against him this summer.

When free agency began, teams figured Sacramento planned to keep Songaila. But when New Jersey’s deal for Shareef Abdur-Rahim fell apart, the Kings used their midlevel exception to snap up Abdur-Rahim and Songaila needed to find a new home after most of the free-agent money already had been spent.

Watch for a 3-team deal involving Darius to the Bulls. That way Darius picks up more salary and the Kings could get a 2nd round pick or a trade exception, both good deals. Will be tough to see Darius go but I think Petrie is "pat" for now with one possible opening for a big guy out of training camp.

Gonna miss Darius .... Boston didn't know what they were trading away when we got him. I enjoyed watching Darius the entire time he spent here. We always knew what we were going to get whenever he went in.

Does what's asked of him .... dependable ... hard-nosed player ..... great in that commercial with the popcorn guy ...

Good Luck Darius .... I'm sure you'll do just fine

he was one of my favorite kings players.... damn kenny thomas and his undesireable long term contract.....

Kinda frustrating but were essentially doing what Boston did, give away a good player for a 2nd round pick???? Only this time, the player pans out to be good....PPFFFFFTT!!! Come on. The trade exception would be best IMHO.

My understanding is that if the Kings are getting a pick out of this deal it means they'd have to get a trade exception as well in order for the deal to work. The Bulls can't just send a pick the Kings way for signing Songaila, it would have to be a S&T. If a S&T happens that involves a pick, a trade exception would have to be involved as well.

The article above says that the trade exception would be given to another team who either gets Piatkowski or a exception. We would only get a 2nd round pick out of this. I have no idea how that works....but I don't like it. 75% of all 2nd round picks are busts.

In theory, the Bulls could send shooting guard Eric Piatkowski to a team with salary-cap room or a trade exception.

Yah! we can work that out with Toronto. Toronto gets a 2nd round draft pick and we pick up Aaron or Eric Williams from them. They have to give up players coz they have a 17 man roster.

If nothing happens until next week, consider that Petrie is working things out. If Darius gets signed today, then Petrie didn't do anything.

I don't think that GP wants any players in return for Darius. They are already over the cap and don't want to go over anymore. Also, Chicago wants to trade players not picks. They have talked openly about shopping Piatkowski and they could even re-sign Adrian Griffin and then ship him out.

That's not true. Darius can only sign an offer sheet with the Bulls, which in and of itself does not make him a Bull. The Kings would then have 7 days to match or better the offer. If Darius signed the offer sheet today, GP could match or better the offer and then turn right around and trade him.

Darn it,

I was really hoping for at least one more move to be done this off season. I especially wanted to see one of the Philadelphia 3 go. But it looks like Petrie is done this summer.

Is it just me or does someone else seem to think that Petrie is losing intrest in the Kings?
