Ric Bucher-Songaila rumor (merged)

LOL PixelPusher

Over at the Bulls forum at RealGM, they picked up on Bucher's comments and were pretty excited about the idea, but again...so far this appears to be a rumor only from RB.

He was probably helping Chad Ford clean out his desk during his last day at ESPN, Chad was angrily muttering under his breath and Ric caught certain words and phrases like "...how dare he..." and "...bull..." and somehow surmised "Darius to the Bulls".
LMAO, man I can't stop...

Man pixelpusher, u just make me laugh everyday. And I'm thankful for that. Hahahaha.

I actually like Ric just cause he said something about the Kings doesn't make me hate him.

He is what he is, someone that has never played BBall or could not make the cut to play. Let it rest there. We spew opinions all day on here not a big deal, why is his any better.

I almost happen to agree, but we shall see

Ric Bucher's got some interesting opinions. He said on ESPNEWS the other day that he thought Pheonix had the best offseason in the NBA...

espn should change its name to bspn because they just give unsupported rumors and expect people to believe just because they are on tv. for instance, i thought larry brown was the gm of cleveland, according to chad ford it was a done deal. Whammy! never happened, forget them.

I still think bucher is an a ****!!! I'd replace him with hollinger any day. Bucher is going to eat his words this coming season, you'll see!

"SAR and Bonzi a revelation to Petrie"

Sometimes it makes you think if they really have a clue about our team, at all, when they are supposed to be "NBA analysists."

Seems like we just discussed this possibility. I contend that if the Bulls REALLY want Songalia, perhaps a S&T is in order...

i say we trade him for nocioni.lol, i wish.

Have you compared stats between Nocioni and Songaila? I would take Song hands down. Nocioni averaged more minutes last season and still Songalia is the better all around player, except in blocked shots and probably defense. The only thing that would attract me to Nocioni is the fact that hes 2 years younger.

I'd absolutely love it if we got Nocioni for Songaila...

He's tough, he hustles, he can score, athletic, younger. He'd be a great back-up for Peja. His playoff series last year was really good, especially Game 1.

Nocioni plays a different position than Darius -- SF, and he's a tough one. Not sure who is better at this point, but Andres probably still has room to grow to become better. Younger, and last year was his first in the league. Darius is always going to be a skilled but undersized PF. Nocioni isn't hampered as much by a physical ceiling on his play.

That's an ignorant statement, did you not see many Bulls games last season? If so, okay, but he can score and rebound, along with his mentioned tough play.

Different positions? That answers that then. Like I said hes younger and his first year, but isnt it also Songailas 2nd year? 1 year diff and 2 years younger isn't that much to scream about. I would probably understand taking Nocioni, but wouldn't he be a risk?

Im basing it off of stats. Stats don't make me ignorant. Perhaps I didn't watch all Bulls games, but the few I saw, I saw him play well, but not mouth-dropping good.

the first/second year thing is just significant in that a lot of overseas players who come over have an adjustment period during their first year, and don't really start to blossom until yr 2.

But that said, I'm certainly not sold on Nocioni as a savior or anything. But he is already a good bencher and really hardnosed competitor that does a bit of everything, and beats the crap out of most small forwards physically. Nice rotation player, and really stepped it up in the playoffs and gave the Bulls 13pts and 8rebs in 34min for the series (he was up and down, but delivered an eye opening dominant game 1 where he exploded for 25pts 18rebs  and came back in the deciding game and delivered another 22 and 7). Be a good guy to have on jsut about any team. Just not sure if he's a starter yet or just a good 6th/7th man type.

My god if we can swing a deal with the Bulls for Nocioni and only have to give up Songaila I would do that in a heartbeat. The guy is a hard nosed small forward that can actually rebound the ball and would give us some attitude in the frontcourt.

I actually wasn't replying to you. ;)

In the SacBee article about Evans signing Petrie makes a statement that the Kings wouldn't match (infering even if they could) because of the roster. Why say that unless/maybe a piece of misinformation. Looking at the roster, it doesn't look like Songalia has a place. Reports have the Bulls having about $2.2 million left of their MLE. Perhaps this could lead for a offer being accepted on the cheap and the Kings matching.

To get rid of the bottleneck and get some size, the Kings trade Williamson, Skinner and next years first for PJ Brown. While on the surface it looks like paying too much, it cuts back on salary while at the same time getting size and toughness. Next years draft is reported to be weak, so that may not hurt too bad. The pick is the enticement to get the deal done.

The Kings finish their line-up with Barnes. With all these moves the Kings remain right around the tax threshold.

The Kings line-up becomes:

PG: Bibby, Hart, Price
SG: Wells, Martin, Garcia
SF: Stojakovic, Thomas, Barnes
PF: SAR, Songalia
C: Miller, Brown, Sampson

This leaves all sorts of variations.

At first I was like "I don't know if it'd cost that much for Brown", but good point about the draft (which was mainly the part of that thought). Be kinda sad to see Skinner go, but I'd welcome Brown, I like him, and he brings what we need. I honestly see Skinner as a King next season though

Still don't know about both Thomas and Darius being Kings though, and Thomas at SF. I also don't quite think Barnes is a lock to come here, very good possiblity though.

I don't see much point to giving away Skinner to get Brown. Giving away Thomas, sure. A lot more size and defense -- a change. But when you give away your best defensive big to go get an older defensive big, how much have you really gained?

Daily Herald - Sacramento forward Darius Songaila visited the Berto Center on Wednesday to meet with Bulls general manager John Paxson and the coaching staff.

Songaila is a restricted free agent and it’s unclear whether the Bulls plan to sign him to an offer sheet or try to negotiate a trade with the Kings. Complicating matters is the fact that Sacramento’s payroll is already above the luxury-tax threshold, so the Kings do not want to take on any players in return.

“We’re going to pursue this (the Bulls’ interest) and hopefully it will work itself out,” said Songaila’s agent, Mark Bartelstein.

The Bulls could sign Songaila to an offer sheet using their remaining salary-cap exception (most likely worth $2.2 million) and hope the Kings don’t match. But they could not send a draft pick to Sacramento in exchange for the 27-year-old native of Lithuania without giving up an equal salary in return.

Bartelstein raised the possibility of involving a third team that has a trade exception available as a way to send Sacramento a draft pick, but he is not sure how things will play out. The Bulls are willing to include shooting guard Eric Piatkowski, who will make $3 million next season, in a trade.

I have seen him play before You heard of him and I stay by my statement. Team which depends in any way on his scoring or rebounding will never be any good.
