The Ducks called timeout with 10 seconds left and the clock stopped as Auburn was lining up to kick the winning FG last night allowing Auburn to run one more play and then run the clock down to two seconds. It was later pointed out to me by one friend that the clock was supposed to start but the refs were just slow. Even if the clock had started though the Ducks could have called the timeout after a few seconds had run off to keep Auburn from running the clock all the way down to 2 seconds and insured themselves one last shot at the ball - either a Cal-Stanford play or a fair catch and hail mary.
I also thought that at the point where the Auburn player broke free on the surprise run the Ducks shouldn't have bothered tackling him at the one yard line - again, anything to guarantee you'd at least have one final chance.
Jets cornerback Antonio Cromartie, taking the baton from Rex Ryan, who criticized Tom Brady's post-touchdown "antics" earlier this week, ripped into the Patriots quarterback in a profanity-laced rant Tuesday, calling him an "***----," and claiming he hates him.
"I've been called worse," Brady said. "I'm sure there is a long list of people that feel that way.
"But he's a good player. [Darrelle] Revis is a great player. They have a great secondary. They're one of the best defenses we've faced. We spend a lot of time preparing for them, and what they're capable of doing over there. To shut down the Colts' offense like they did is pretty impressive, because we know how good that offense is. We're going to be ready to play."
Revis actually isn't that bad. He said in an interview that he didn't hate the Pats or Tom Brady. Cromartie on the other hand is a world class pos, besides the tirade he has 9 bastard children.
I think he said he hates them when they are playing them, or something similar. Either way he lets his actions on the field do the talking for him and doesn't get caught up in trying to win the game in the press.
In a rush, so no score predictions this week from me. But my picks are Steelers, Falcons, Bears, and even though I think the Pats will win, I'll pick the Jets with the upset. So:
For some reason I am really tempted to pick the Seahawks. Should have learned my lesson with the Chefs. What's the weather like in Chicago right now? Reason is prevailing here and I'm going with Chicago.
I think Green Bay is the best team in the NFC right now. So they are my pick over the Falcons.
Pittsburgh and Baltimore should be brutal. I think this game is just about even but I have noticed that Suggs has been running his mouth off about Brady all week. Why would he be talking about Brady when their division rival is up this week? For this reason alone I am going with the Steelers.
I'm not picking against my favorite team. Pats.
Ok partially coming to my senses and partially for the purposes of playing the game I'm going to pick Chicago. I'll update my previous post. I don't think Chicago is particularly good but Seattle isn't playing at home and Lynch isn't going to explode. I will root for Seattle though, just because it would be hilarious if they win and Green Bay wins to have them playing the NFC championship at home.
I wanted the Steelers to win but man the Ravens got robbed. What the hell kind of call was that hold on the punt return? And then a defensive lineman holding call near the goal line that wasted valuable timeouts and time for the Ravens? Just bad bad bad officiating.
Was hoping for a nasty brutal game and got it. Looks like the team that came out worse for the wear actually won too. Can't believe a game featuring no real offensive movement to speak of wound up having 55 points scored.
Surprised to see the Ravens/Steelers game such a high scoring one. Epic fail on getting outscored 24-3 in the second half and MAJOR disappointment in the Falcons, you get a week more to rest and get ready for your opponent and your at home and you come out and play like this? Wow. Green Bay though is looking very legit, it's going to be interesting to see them face the Bears, that's going to be interesting.
I don't think teams like the falcons are well equipped to handle having a week off. Not sure if it's the pressure build up or just losing that rhythm but great teams with great QBs usually take advantage of having that week off. Falcons haven't proven to be a legit contender just yet. I said all year that I thought they were overrated but I still picked them this week just based on the fact that I thought they would be able to control the pace of the game with their balanced attack on offense. But I guess turnovers and a soft defense was too much for them.
