KG to Pistons?

man, its okay to dream, right? sure would make the kings incredibly fun to watch again.

minnesota's gotta be crazy to even consider trading him. anybody know what KG's contract status is? if KG is sick of the front office's inabilty to provide him with quality (and stable) support, and requests (demands?!) a trade, might they simply want to get great value in return before he decides to walk altogether? probably not. he's gotta have several years left on his contract. they've re-signed him at least once...so he's gotta be locked up for awhile.

so why else would minnesota want to trade him? they cant be so blind that they think KG's the problem, rather than his supporting cast. i just dont believe that minnesota would actively shop KG without a logical reason. i dont think minnesota could say they wanted a "change of pace," or something along those lines, with a straight face. i certainly wouldnt complain if KG moved out east (or came to the kings :p), but i'm just trying to get into minny's front office's shoes. why do it?

anybody got better answers than me?

just checked realgm.com. garnett's under contract til 2009. thats 4 more years to try, yet again, to build a championship contender around garnett. thats 4 more years of garnett in his prime. i dont think he's going anywhere.

Yeah, Minny would be crazy to trade KG. The reason these rumors keep arising is because the Toronto Sun Sports page editor has nothing better to write about.

cmon playas lets get serious... if minny was gonna trade KG it wouldnt be to a western team

Why do we have to be serious? And, although it might be unlikely that Garnett would end up on another Western team, it's not out of the realm of possibility.

If this is a real rumor, they have to be trying to trade him because he's exerting some pressure. A guy as competitive and hungry as KG can't be happy on embarking on rebuilding project #75 in Minnesota while he's in the prime of his career. He's 29. If he's going to contend for a championship while being first banana, now's the time. The Wolves are a few years away from contending again. If I were KG I'd be demanding a trade.

I can kind of see how Minnesota would make the Wallace/Wallace trade, if only because of the draft picks and the fact that Ben Wallace is an expiring contract. If they're going to rebuild, might as well rebuild big.

As far as the Kings go, if they have to trade two members of the core I really don't think they'll be contending with KG immediately. Just think about how good the Kings were with Webber on the team in his prime -- he was probably only slightly less talented than KG. Even with someone as good as Webber they still needed Bibby, Christie, Peja and Divac to contend. If you take two members of the core away from the Kings that's a pretty steep loss and it would leave the Kings less talented overall than the WCF team. Of course you make that trade, but I don't think it would suddenly propel the Kings into contention.

My preference would be a Bibby/Peja trade for KG. I really don't think the Kings are going to win championship with such a major defensive liability at the point guard, and I think that Miller is an extremely valuable facilitator who would very nicely compliment KG in the post.

I have successfully convinced myself thanks to tireless efforts by Bricklayer and others that KG to the Kings is not outside the realm of possibility. You just never know....

You owe me a coke I didn't say your name.

What, you thought I meant something other than a schoolyard jinx because we said the same thing at the same time?

And yes. It is late on the east coast.

I'll admit to dreaming of a JO + Tinsley for KG and Hassel trade for some time now. :D

I wish something big would happen, this offseason is dull.

Don't get me wrong. I would trade Peja and Brad and keep Bibby, if possible. Mike does a lot better with a strong post presence. Bibby and Garnett could be bigger than Stockton and Malone. It would be a duo for the ages...

If you close your eyes and think really, really hard, you can almost see it.

Pretty, ain't it?

Or...how about clicking your heels 3 times while saying, "Bibby and Garnett"..."Bibby and Garnett"..."Bibby and Garnett."

:p

I've been proposing two of our big three for a while now. If Detroit has really had discussions about the two Wallaces, we SHOULD try to get our asses into that discussion as well. The true superstar is the rarest breed in the NBA. You can go decades as a franchise without seeing one. If one is on the market for a couple of lesser players, history has shown the team picking up the superstar is normally the one that goes laughing to the bank.

And from Detroit's perspective, hard as it is to see them moving Big Ben, this would be the ultimate move to show confidence in Darko, as amusing a concept as that might seem. And yes, of COURSE they are back in the playoffs next year -- that's ridiculous. They were a 50 win team before Prince was anything and before Sheed arrived. And if Darko blossoms, they become more than just scary.

Darko idolises KG. If having KG on his team, at practice and in the locker room would help Darko snap out of whatever lethargic coma he has fallen into, he could blossom.

Just think about it, two most mobile 7-footers in the World balling on the same team. In Detroit. I'd kill myself.

I have thought about it -- and it could be a fricking nightmare.

Add prince and his wingspan. That would be a nightmare for opposing teams.

Oh yeah, that's part of the nightmare. "Hi, we go 7'1", 7'1", 6'10" across the frontline, and all of us can play inside and out." And of course in said nightmare scenario, you have the former MVP, his protege, and a first team All-Defense type guy as the trio. Of course all of that depends on Darko taking a dramatic step forward and so may never occur. But new coach who will use him correctly, new teammates, new start...would not be a complete shock if he turned it around under those circumstances.

I get the feeling LB was one of the worst coaches for Darko to have entering the league. Flip may be one of the better ones for helping him along. And if KG mentored him, oh my.

I may be totally off base here. I got the impression from the rumor that is was Detroit who balked. At least a couple of posters have asked why would Minn. would be shopping him. Most scenerios have the motivation coming from Garnett. If the rumor is true and I don't think it is, it may be something more serious than just a disgruntled employee. Last season, I recall at least a couple references made about to his knee bothering him. Knees and big contracts don't set well with me.

Again, I may be (actually probably am) totally wrong but the knee crossed my mind as possible motivation.

First of all, let's get one thing straight. There is nothing and no one that the Kings can offer Minnesota in exchange for KG that Minny would even consider. Like Brick said, a true superstar is a rare thing in the NBA, and Garnett will be an All-NBA first team member for at least the next 5 years.

Second, if I was Joe Dumars, I would ship the Wallaces (31 this season) and 2 picks to Minnesota in a heartbeat to get Garnett (29). If Darko develops (keep in mind he just turned 20 and for the first time, is getting some playing time in the summer league and Euro championships), Detroit will have itself a true Dynasty.

C Darko
PF Garnett
SF Price
SG Hamilton
PG Billups

Oh those wingspans!

When Darko came into the league, his style/skill evoked many comparisons to a young KG. And who better to develop Darko into that type of player than Flip Saunders teaching him alongside KG himself? If Joe can pull this off, he will be a god among mortal GMs (and demigod GP).

Just thinking about it near gives me the vapors.

Oh my...

;)

that huge frontcourt sounds great and all. but all of this is betting on darko growing into himself all of a sudden. he didnt grow at all in his first few seasons, mainly because of Brown, but to bank on him going from garbage time, to a solid starter is a pretty big leap in my opinion. i think it is dangerous to assume a young player with great potential will morph into a great player automatically.

that being said, as detroit i would probably still do the trade

On Bibby and Garnett playing together?

May I ask why?

I would just rather see what this team now can do. Thats all.

But if we could keep Bibby, which I don't think we would in a deal for KG (Bibby would have to be the first thing they ask for IMO), then I would certainly consider it.

I'm dreaming in IMAX. You're at home watching your portable 17" black and white Motorola than runs off batteries.

We're in different worlds, dear STK.

And that's fine... I'm curious to see what this current roster will do, although I'm sure there are still some additions to be made. I just really like to have DREAMS!

Well, my dream consists of Mike Bibby, Peja Stojakovic, Brad Miller, Bonzi Wells, and the other Sacramento Kings players, bringing a new attitude to the Kings, and giving it all they can next season. :)

There's the difference. (and I hope no one accuses me of berating you over this, because I'm just discussing...) ;)

To me, seeing Mike, Peja, etc bring a new attitude and giving it all they can isn't a dream. It's an expectation.

A dream is something I don't really think will come true, but would be WONDERFUL if it did. I dreamed of having a pony when I was a child. I'm dreaming of having Mike Bibby and Kevin Garnett playing together for the Sacramento Kings.

The bottom line, however, is that we're both thinking positive thoughts about our Kings. And that's good, no matter whether it's a dream, an expectation, or simply a statement of fact.

GO KINGS!!!!!

:D
