joey dorsey waived

Why? I dont really care, but why now? Im pretty sure players can no longer sign with teams this season, and we just lost Mcguire for the season .. May, Hawes, and Brockman are all banged up .. wierd timing.

May be too much overlap with Brockman and Dorsey? Odd they would even do this though with just a couple of weeks left in the season.

I liked him a lot on defense, but between the lack of height and lack of offense I'm not sure if we (and Houston) thought him worthy of developing. But given that Brockman has impressed us with the hustle, I guess he had to go.

This is a clear sign Brockman will be coming back. By the way it was noted that Brockman is returning along with Tyreke.

That is sad that he is waived, however, it sounds like Brockman is ready to play tomorrow.

Evans will be joined by rookie forward Jon Brockman, who has not played since Feb. 17 with a kneeinjury.

we have to do everything we can not to win any more games

our future depends on it

I guess this isn't too surprising. If Dorsey wasn't going to play at all in a game where we have 8 guys available, then he wasn't going to play under any other circumstances.

This drops our roster to 13, but with McGuire out for the season, we're effectively at 12, and with May and Garcia expected to miss tomorrow...10 against the Pacers. And still only one PG. Beno is going to be real, real tired for the back-to-back in Minnesota.

Reke will be back

This is an odd move -- it was mysterious why Doresey suddenly became sucha persona non grata anyway given that he seemed to have a solid meat and potatoes game and arrived in town smiling. But now to waive him in the midst of an injury rush with 10 games to go in the season? Unless he asked to go so he could catch on wiht somebody else (but this late?) were their issues behind the scenes?

Don't really understand why but oh well. Dorsey goes and Sean May stays? Hmmmm....I question the thinking power of this org once again.

On KHTK Sportsline, Coach W asked about waiving Dorsey near end of season. "I won't have a whole lot to say about that, but it is a bit unusual."

Co-signed!!! WTF!?!?...I don't get the reason for letting him go, dude can ball and was built like a house and can block shots and rebound. They barely gave him any shot at all. I just don't get it.
I get the impression after listening to Westphal, that Dorsey was a problem benhind the scenes. As you can see fom the quotes already posted, he admitted the move was unusual, but that it was the right move. Didn't eloborate at all, which IMO means something happened which he just didn't want to get into.

Generally, if a player gets cut, the coach is complementary, and says something along the lines of "it wasn't a good fit, but we wish him the best of luck down the road", or a brief explanation of why the player doesn't fit, and what they need to work on to make a roster in this league. There was none of that from Westphal. Instead I got the impression that he wanted to cut ties with Dorsey, immediatly(given the odd timing), and leave whatever happened behind the scenes. Just my opinion though.

From Grant's show:

He made some comments after the game, something to the effect of "I'm not going to work out since you are not even playing me" and other stuff that Grant said he would not repeat.

Before we get too carried away with this, or start building a statue out front of the arena for Dorsey, lets have a little reality check. He played a total of 52 minutes for the Kings. In that 52 minutes he blocked 1 shot. For his NBA career he has played 113 minutes and has blocked, let me shout this from the rooftops, 2 shots. That hardly makes him a shotblocker surpreme. His rebounding numbers are a little better. He has little or no offense. He's a little slow to guard PF's and a little short to guard most centers. He stands a little over 6'6" in his bare feet. Dejaun Blair he isn't.

So me thinks, that if he also copped an attitude, he did so from a weak position. He wasn't going to be here next year anyway, so its no big deal.

Well, at least the Brockman vs. Dorsey question (as pertains to next year) appears to be settled. Not that Brock will definitely be back, but...

Dorsey picked an odd time to mouth off. I think he must have made some demands or something similar in order to get shown the door in such an abrupt manor. Literally told dont let the door hit ya...

There MUST have been something behind the scenes that the Coach didn't elaborate on. The way the coach answered the question was "he's gone, next question..." Well, Good luck Dorsey. With that kind of sendoff, you sure didn't get a good referral from your previous employer.. :o
