Jazz frontcourt?

With Rudy Gobert, Derrick Favors and Enes Kanter all on the Jazz roster for several years, one has to think that at least one will not be part of the team's long-term plans. Each player is good enough to be starting and each would fit in nicely alongside Cousins...

It's not really a secret that the Jazz have been wanting to unload Kanter for a while. And I don't really blame them for that.

I don't see them trading Gobert....unreal improvement this year.

Well, not so much improvement so much as Tyrone Corbin is no longer there to play tweeners Jeremy Evans and Marvin Williams instead of his young center.

I like to harp on Gobert because it's one of the few times that I have been right (about anything, really.) I desperately wanted the Kings to pick him up. The Jazz got him for a song (I think a future second and some cash.)

I wouldn't mind Kanter as a backup, but I haven't been impressed with him on the defensive end which is where the second unit needs help. He doesn't do much in the way of rim protection or man defense. I would much rather get a guy who rebounds and defends well, even if he can't score worth a damn.

Good shooter with 3PT range, solid defender, excellent athlete, cheap.

Kanter has been a disappointment since he came into the league. He has a game similar to Cousins, but not nearly as good. Up until this season, he hadn't taken a three point shot, and now is averaging less than one a game. He's an average rebounder, he doesn't block shots and he's an average defender overall. There's no way I want him next to Cousins. As a backup center, he'd certainly be an upgrade, but that's about it. Now if were talking Favor's or Gobert, then that's another story.

Kanter will be the odd man out. He isn't a good defender, passer or rebounded but he has a pretty good offensive game and can score with his back to the basket. He will get paid but it shouldn't be by the Kings.

Don't be surprised if we hear rumblings that we are working on a deal with Nets for Ersan Ilyasova. He is the non-defending, stretch 4 that this front office get all hot and sweaty over.

DMC is an absolutely unique talent and the most versatile big man of the league. From my point of view, we worry a bit too much about the right fit next to Cousins. If he can be effective with a below average PF like JT playing next to him, he can play with almost every starting PF/C in the league and still be effective. DMC is a great defender, a solid shotblocker, he is agile and quick. Maybe the mobile, athletic shotblocking, defense first PF is the perfect player next to Cousins, but since there are only few players out there, who fit this playstyle and those players have huge value for their teams, we should start to worry less about fit, but more about overall talent and mainly about work ethic and dedication.

A season ago, the common sense in this forum was, that DMC would never be able to anchor a defense and block shots at a reasonable clip. Just pay attention, how he improved in these areas. At the start of the season Cousins coulnd't play defense without getting in foul trouble all the time and had his minutes limited by this. Look where he is now. There is literally nothing DMC can't do on a basketball court.

I say - keep JT for defensive purposes and aquire some kind of talented PF - no matter if this is a stretch-4, a bully or a defensive powerhouse. DMC will adapt and will be effective. And if we can lower the weight on his shoulders and strenghten our overall talent base, the team will improve.

I would be quite surprised if we dealt with the Nets for Ilyasova, considering he's currently on the Bucks.
