Eras are different. I'm not doing the legwork, but I'd bet that those guys were of average PG size during their prime era. Sure, there was Magic, but you didn't have a ton of 6'4"+ PGs to my recollection like we do now.

Back then the conventional wisdom was that tall = unskilled, so PG was often smaller than what we'd see today while in modern ball bigs are expected to have more skill and are slightly smaller. I think the net is that we get a lot more talented skill players while the traditional big man is a dying breed. Just being 7'2 with some rebounding and blocking ability won't earn you a backup C spot today. And because of that size is a little more evenly distributed with taller guards and smaller forwards, plus more interchangeability.

This was shared in the Keon trade thread but I thought it might be worth discussing further. If we buy out Deebo (in the case of no trade) that would put us just under 200 mil for payroll for the 10 players listed (obviously that number goes down if we pick 2 or lower). 11-15 roster spots still need to be filled, Cardwell almost assuredly one of them. Heck, if Deebo isn’t on the team we would actually have 6 spots to fill. It’s hard to imagine Scott did that Hunter trade without knowing he could do another deal now to get off more money.

If Deebo cannot be moved, I would ask him if he would take say 7 million dollars instead of that 10 million dollar buy out for next year. If yes, he could be cut immediately and sign with one of the following below apron playoff contenders: Denver, Toronto, Philly or Thunder. Of course we would rather get compensated for him via trade, but if we can’t work something out this saves us a few million for next season and frees up 30 min of playing time.

If they wanted Monk (apparently they did) what else do we have to take back to make salary on him work? And would they give us a draft pick for our trouble since most of the league seems to have written Dillingham off?

If they want a point guard, how about we send them Russell Westbrook, McDermott (salary match) and Eubanks (salary match) for Dillingham. I wouldn't even ask for a draft pick. If they want someone who is performing at a high level and has a playoff experience and won't cost them a lot, Westbrook would fit the bill.

Dillingham (or Jared McCain) is exactly the type of buy low, young players the Kings should be taking swings on. As long as the price is low, I would take a swing on DIllingham or Jared McCain.
