Okay, I'm watching the CMT awards for 2006. I can't help it. I love country music.

So, since country is one of those types of music you either love or hate, I'm gonna start this here thread for ya'll to share your latest country finds.

Please, if you hate country, just pass on by.

If, on the other hand, anyone from Hank Williams Jr. to Rascal Flatts, Reba to Shania, Brooks and Dunn to Sugarland, or any other country artists really get your toes to tapping, this is the place to talk about it.

Hopefully I'm not the only country fan ...

I don't know. Tell redneck jokes?

;)

Seriously, I was hoping maybe people would recommend new songs they'd heard, new country artists they'd come across, etc. much like the hip-hop thread but with more twang.

:D

And I see your mention Hank JR... you hear his son yet?
No. I'll have to go check out Amazon and see if I can find an audio clip. I like that Amazon is now featuring clips of the cuts off new CDs. Makes it convenient...

thanks, now I got 'Neon Moon' running through my head ;)

country.. hmm. weird, i swore for so many years that i absolutely hated and despised it. oddly enough there is some select country i do find myself enjoying recently. in the last 2 years or so i have become more open to it, i did say i love all kinds of music. still by far not my favorite type of music, but interesting in its own rite. mostly just classic artists like Brooks and Dunn, Garth Brooks, George Strait and others who have been around for awhile. I usually enjoy it a little more after a few drinks at a bar :D .usually I hear it when I am with other people, never play it on my own. still probably one of the lower types of music on my list, im surprised i have develped a taste for it at all.

Watched last week's episode of Nashville Star this morning. There are some very talented people left. That's what I like about USA Network, Bravo, etc. They show their series more than once. I sure wish Fox would reshow American Idol. I'm sure they'd pretty much keep the initial viewers and add a second tier, even if they couldn't vote.

I got a chance to check out Hank 3. Turns out I had heard him. Talk about a retro combo of his dad and grandpa.

Right now, I'm listening to Gretchen Wilson. She's kinda the "bad girl" of country. Also got Josh Turner and Garth Brooks in the queue.

Some of my country favorites:eek:

(I had no choice but to listen to it. When I was younger and would go duck hunting with my cousin in Texas and Oklahoma, this was all that he played.)

John Michael Montgomery- Sold (The Grundy County Auction Incident)

Alan Jackson- Greatest Hits<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<This one is my fav

Shania Twain- The Woman in Me

Garth Brooks- No Fences

Charlie Daniels Band- Fire on the Mountain

By the way, who sings that song that goes........"I'll buy you tall tall trees, all the waters in the sea, I'm a fool fool fool for you"

Here is the link... http://www.hank3.com/

I love Sr and JR but not sure about hank3 yet.. He is edgey for sure.

Tim Mcgraw "Live Like You Were Dying" is currently the most listened to album in my truck and its been that way since it came out almost 2 years ago.

Edgy is an understatement, especially for those poor souls who go to one of his gigs thinking that all he's gonna play is country music. At least he separates, or used to separate, his sets betwen all country and all punk/thrash with a break (and a warning) in between.

I think his country stuff is decent. I like it a lot more than Jr.'s music, which I never really cared for (I cut him a little slack due to him being a Steelers fan). But I think his thrash stuff is subpar. It has nothing to do with me hating the genre, since I have a fair amount from my earlier, angrier years. I just think it's not very good for what it is. So he's a mixed bag for me.

Definately VF, you can tell he has that SR twang in his voice.

I haven't heard his punk stuff L.A.B... ugg, the pics on his site are pretty nutty. Not your typical country dood for sure. My high school days were just at the end/during JR's peak so understandably I love JR, lotta nights on the hill with "SODA" and Hank.

LOL my wife said HIII sounds like Kid Rock doing country.

Hey I love this thread :)

Another great group from back in MY day which is not as far back as VF's day :) HAHA...Pirates of the Mississippi. I believe they haven't had an album out since '95... but it looks like they have a new single out called "drinkin money".

They sound like the same POTM that I loved, same great sound and the single is really good. I couldn't find a main site for them, so if anyone comes across one.

I am a fan of all kinds of music but I have to say that country surrefrs all of the same problems of pop music. Over promoted, pover produced, vidio centric and generally lacking substance. On the other hand there is nothing better to listen to in the pick up than Cash, Nelson, Jennings, Old Hank Williams or Les Paul and Mary Ford.

Personally I think some of the best stuff done was the duo albums Waylon and Willie did. If those didn't get your toes tappin' you most likely didn't have a pulse...

Now you're talking. I especially love Les Paul and Mary Ford.

Maddox Brothers & Rose.

Slim Whitman.

I've always had a soft spot for really old country & bluegrass, but the new stuff gives me hives.

I'm crazy about country music and am so glad you started this thread, VF21!! Funny, for years I hated this music, but since last summer, I am now a big fan. My most favorite right now is Little Big Town. CM fans, if you haven't heard them yet, you must! They are an amazing, talented quartet. Their sound harkens back to the day of classic country and also some bluegrass thrown in. I love how they have a lot of dobro and banjo in their music, too. I also really like Keith Urban. He's got the whole package-good looks and lots of talent to back it up. Gorgeous voice and a great guitarist. As for classic country, I like Johnny Cash, Loretta Lynn, and Patsy Cline.

Now my take on the CMT Music Awards: some deserved their awards, some did not, all in just my humble opinion. Carrie Underwood better than Miranda Lambert?? Carrie does sing better, but Miranda Lambert writes her own music and plays the guitar. Pretty impressive for someone who's only about 22, 23 years of age. I was also disappointed to see that Little Big Town didn't pick up the Best Group Video award, but I wasn't expecting them to based on the fact that they are an indie band. Even though they deserved the award, indie bands unfortunately don't get the attention and media exposure that major label bands do. Rascal Flatts is excruciating to listen to. Do they ever sing about anything other than melodramatic tragedy? Theirs is music to make you want to kill yourself, yikes. I was glad to see Billy Currington get the sexiest video award. Even though Keith Urban is incredibly sexy, nothing beats Billy Currington rolling around the beach nearly naked.

There is nothing wrong about loving country music!

I caught the first two hours of the CMT awards, I fell asleep right after Sugarland's performance which I was happy to say that I could actually hear. Up to Brooks and Dunn's performance right before, you could hardly hear any of the vocals! How great were they!

But, right now my personal fave is Rascal Flatts. All time? Johnny Cash. :D
