[Game] Game 70: Kings v. 76ers - 3/24/15 - 7:00 pdt 10:00 edt

I'll take it. When (hopefully) we're pushing for a playoff spot next season, these are the sort of games you look back to that decide your season. Didn't play our best in the first half obviously, but found a way to beat a team we should.

Whatever Karl said at halftime worked. They looked like a team out there and the arms-in-the-air sign by DMC at the buzzer says it all. This team needs to win these kinds of games - and tonight they did. Effort and hustle and finding a way to win.

And we did lose to them a few games ago. I'm happy for the win don't get wrong but damn! They're the lowest scoring team in the league

that logic goes out the window as soon as the opponent steps on the court versus Sacramento. They see the basket as big as a crater.

Can someone please explain to me why Ray McCallum took 17 shots in tonight's game?

We only shot 36% for the game...

But won by taking (and making) more free throws, out rebounding, and great 2nd half defense.

Karl taking a page out of Malone's book.

Cousins with 33/17/3/4/4/ helped too.

Derrick Williams/Rudy Gay actually played really good D in the 4th
D-Will had his best defensive game today. He's showing that he's capable, but we want to see more consistency. Effort and hustle make up a lot of defense. They were really smart on rotations though

But, again, it's Philly: how can you tell?

All the tanking jokes aside, Philly isn't a joke team. Basically since they won their first game, they've become one of the better defensive teams in the NBA and they don't quit and they make you show up and actually beat them. They aren't going to win many games when the team they're playing DOES show up as they only have like 3 real NBA players, but they always hustle and they never give up.

1st and 2nd half difference in play was a perfect example. Kings didn't feel like playing in the first half and Philly was beating us pretty damn good. When we decided to show up and compete on the defensive end, we were the much better team on the court.

Hate to nitpick but we lost to Philly 10 days ago.

My comment wasn't so much about the opponent as it was about the tone of the game. We wouldn't have managed to pull out the win. We would have and often did find a new way to grab defeat from the jaws of victory.

No question: those kids are all in on what Brett Brown is selling. They play hard every night, they hustle, they play defense, and if you don't match their effort, they can beat you.

BUT... there's one guy on their team who would get minutes on another NBA roster. Maybe as many as three... maybe. As hard as they play, nearly all of their wins have come from their opponents taking them lightly. They can't beat any team that matches their intensity for forty-eight minutes. So, how do you know what was good defense, and just us not sleepwalking for a change?

Wait. What?!?!
He even kept the turnovers in check.

But, hey, it's been that way here since Evans was hired, at least. There are some Kings Fans for whom "efficiency" is the end-all and be-all. Sure, Cousins went for 33/17/3/4/4, but he didn't shoot it well, ipso facto, he had a crappy stat line. Or something.

Well, at this point, I'll take us not sleepwalking every game over the alternative, which we saw in the first half of this game.

When asked what he said at half-time, George Karl replied, "I told em they stunk. I told them what do you want to do. What do you want to play like? I just asked them."

Hey, it worked. :)

Some Kings fans need a refresher course on what qualifies as a crappy stat line. I would refer them to Kenny Thomas...

That's the real George Karl. Intense but at the same time laid back. Looking for an edge and that edge tonight was telling it like it was at halftime and getting a response. Luckily the response was positive.

Refreshing to see our head coach come right out and say he yelled at the team and challenged them to prove they want to be here.
