Doug Christie

I think Doug will be an excellent back up PG to Bibby for many of the reasons already stated:

1) We can most likely get him on the cheap at the veteran's minimum.
2) He knows the offense. Peja will get ~2 more shots underneath the basket each game from a nice feed from the top of the key from Doug.
3) He offers size and defense at the PG position. On occasions, the Kings can feature Christie (PG) and Wells (SG) on the court...a solid defense tandem in the backcourt to slow down the athletic guards.
4) Christie can help mentor Martin and Garcia (I just don't see Mike nor Bonzi fulfill this role).
5) He should retire as a King.

I agree with everything you have said.

Except one thing I would be afraid of is that Rick would overplay Doug at the expense of the young fellas, and maybe even Bonzi, due to his familiarity with the system. That would be a major step in the wrong direction. If he came back and played 10-15 minutes a game max that would be cool.

Man you right on all acounts on this. Now if doug recovered from his injury and was able to play how he did a cpl of years ago it might not be so bad, But I dont see that happening.

This will be great for Doug and his family if he's signed back , b/c when Doug was traded he took it really hard, I mean the man burst out in tears, so you can tell he loved it here in Sac.So if it happens I will be really happy for him.

Guess who's gonna go after Dougie just as soon as Marko Jaric bolts.
Those goofy goofnicks, the Clippies.
Well in that case it would be fine for them to do whatever. I am not interested in us offering Doug anything more thena hte vet minimum just so he can come back, help for ayear,a nd retire. If he returns to Sacto its a labor of love. So the Clips can feel free to offer him whatver money their cheapskatte owner is willing to scrounge up, and its kind of apples and oranges. Is he looking to come home to wrap things up? Or is he still looking for money? And if its the latter why did he quit on the Orlando franchise and force them to buy him out?

I'd be ecstatic to get Doug back, so long as Petrie rides Adelman's *** to make sure Doug stays a pure PG. I think Garcia is versatile enough that he will find some minutes, but Martin might get squished if they acquire Doug. I think it would be a great PR move as well. As fans, we have not been able to say goodbye to any of the guys who built this franchise, and I think Doug embodies the spirit of the city more than anyone else. Bobby is close, and Webber became a true warrior, but Doug was always just a Sactown kind of guy. At least in my opinion.

Wonderful! Simply wonderful post! And the young guys could really benefit by having Doug around for 1 more year.

Doug said it's here or Seattle, so obviously he's playing for sentiment and not cash. He would come here for the vet min over the Clippers any day. Also, the Kings are making moves to address needs already without Doug in mind. If they grab him, it will be after other pieces are in place and the game plan for the year has been established. Doug will be used as a role player and we shouldn't worry about him taking too many undeserved minutes. Not much downside I can see to aquiring him.

Doug should come back for all previous reasons mentioned.

On two conditions.

Adelman keeps him as just the backup PG.

And

Adelman doesn't overplay him.
If I'm Adelman, and Doug Christie is like the pre foot injury Christie. I play Christie over the youngsters behind both Bibby and Wells.

Doug would probably win us some games, though if our front court stays as is, maybe it's better off we lose some games and develop some youth.

Again, if I'm a coach without a new contract, I'm going for wins now, not later.

doug didn't do crap when hes was with us this season while starting, what makes anyone think he will do anything while coming off the bench now?
He avg 5 assists a game.

starting... limited minutes means limited results
Name me another player on the Kings besides Mike that could avg 5 assists while starting. Young guys could still learn a thing or two from Doug.

Doug was injured all year. He has had surgery and may be a different person.

Personally, I don't want to see Doug starting for the Kings, but I would love to see him in a backup role where he can mentor the young guys. Also, consider that the Kings will have a larger roster (as will everyone else). Adelman is known to have a short rotation, so that means there will be a couple of more guys sitting on the bench. With the presence that Doug would bring to the Kings, I don't care if he is sitting at the end of the bench.

It's all good. I disagree but it's really a small matter.

I'd put guys like Knight/Watson/McInnis, even Goldwire/Mike Wilks/Brunson before Christie. Who are all solid/decent, can play d, and pass, are FAs too. Doug's a great guy, but unless he takes the vet min., no. Even if he did, I'd still lean towards the others.
