Alright, we got the 8th pick, options...

You're way late to the party on this one. The plus/minus aspects of IT have been debated ad nauseum...and beyond. No one is faulting IT for his prowess on offense. What people are saying about his defense, however, is irrefutable. He's a liability because he's short. Period. No matter how hard he tries, he is not going to be able to guard some players effectively because of his stature. It's not about his heart, or his talents or anything but his physical limitations. Much like trying to play Jon Brockman at the 5...

That's a good anology, I'm not in the anti-IT group one bit but i'm big on Ray McCallum and think he has a high ceiling and when I take the emotion out of it i think 4/5M is about right for IT.

After all the moves and/or picks this offseason, if Ray is the starting PG and he's surrounded by a strong vet and Ben at SG and an upgrade at PF, I wouldn't be opposed to that....and I understand that we need to win now. If it turns out that Ray is the combo guard off the bench, I'm ok with that....I think the kid can play, a big fan of his....but on the other hand, if we can add a guy like Rondo or Bledsoe, that would be better and a difference making move.

Using Greivis as an example, there is no point in acquiring a vet like this as I don't think it would be an upgrade at this point...an upgrade is Rondo, Bledsoe, Holiday, Marcus Smart possibly, etc....otherwise, we stick with Ray.

Utah's office wants Jabari Parker on the Jazz for non-basketball related reasons, but he also happens to be a very good player. Cavs ought to take that trade. Favors, Irving, Burks, and whoever they take at #5 is a solid team.

PS - Damn it must be nice to win the lottery. Can you imagine how thrilled we would be if somebody offered us Favors (an up and coming stud), Burks (an up and coming stud), and the #5 pick?

Yeah, it would look even better if Embiid fell to #5 and they signed LeBron.

PG - Irving
SG - Burks/Waiters
SF - (Lebron?)/Gee/Bennett
PF - Favors/Thompson
C - Embiid/Varejao/Zeller

That would be one hell of a team going forward.

can you guys watch him play, please? isaiah thomas knows how to play pick and rolls, he can handle switches and off ball movement, he communicates, he reacts quickly, and he tries. for a guy that drops 20 ppg, 6 apg, and is the vocal leader of the team, what he does is absolutely fine at this point in the team's building process. players know they can shoot over isaiah, but they don't salivate like when they're being guarded by ben mclemore or jimmer. this should not even be a topic.

Umm, not really. One vivid example of this was when the Bobcats mopped the floor with us on our own home floor. Kemba Walker went off that night and Isaiah Thomas had a nightmare trying to guard him on pick and rolls.

he scored 12 points on isaiah. wow.

once on a fastbreak with IT in his face
another time on a mid range pull up with IT in front of him.
a three when IT goes under a screen. (please excuse IT for going under on a career 32% 3pt shooter)
another three with IT in front
another midrange 2 with IT contesting

many times during a pick and roll, the big ended up guarding kemba. it's not ideal, but guess what, it's common in the nba. meanwhile, IT put up 21 points and 8 assists.

Lets make a deal

One source said that the Kings' focus, for the moment, is Thursday's draft and perhaps swinging a trade involving the No. 8 overall pick. Sources told ESPN.com's Andy Katz on Tuesday that Sacramento has narrowed its potential draft pick partners down to Boston, Phoenix, and Philadelphia--three teams that have multiple first-round picks."

My take is the Kings are willing to pass on one of the forwards (Gordon/Vonleh/Randle) and move back and take a shooter.

I agree, I think the only reason a Boston deal is on the table is just in case something can be worked out with Rondo which I'm not banking on. Philadelphia and Phoenix have multiple first round picks and I believe also a bunch of second round picks which would really entice the Kings. They have openly said that they want at least one second round pick. Hopefully there are a few surprises in the beginning of the first round that drop some of the bigger names to us, makes the pick more valuable, assuming we don't trade it before the draft. If Embiid, Gordon, and Randle were somehow available at that spot it would be a very nice trade piece.

How far back is McDermott? I haven't been paying much attention or at least not as much as usual as I have faith in our FO and I realize my opinions mean nothing.

DraftExpress has mentioned McD could go even higher than the Kings @8. My guess would be anywhere from the Celt's at 6 to Denver's 11 - which is being heavily shopped by teams trying to get up in the draft for him. i.e. Chicago.

I'm guessing somewhere around #12 to #14, you never know if a few players may jump him too. There are always a few surprises during the draft.

Interestingly, DX has all the guys I think they'd want (Gordon, McDermott, Stauskas, and Payton) all in the exact 8-11 range. Maybe they can't trade down too far to get one of those guys after all.

Pretty crazy offseason lining up. When a guy like LeBron is feasibly available, every player in the NBA is available because of cap and roster moves.

I really like the idea of using the 8 for a Rondo package, but I have my doubts Ainge will pull the trigger on that unless the #8 becomes part of a larger package.

Affalo would make sense and sounds like he's available for the 8. Doubtful Orlando gives up their 12 too though. They may like a guy like JT for experience at the PF/C, so a salary swap might not be that big of a deal.

Personally, I would target Taj Gibson but I have no idea why CHI would get rid of guy like him unless the Kings also make a larger deal to get Boozer off their books.

I think a dark horse trade might be for OKC's Reggie Jackson and some cap relief to OKC.

What if Miami's roster totally falls apart? Would they want the Kings #8 + contract enders (DWill, Terry, whoever else) for a S&T Bosh? Highly unlikely, but if there is a player MIA likes that falls there, you never know. One thing we probably do know is, Bosh wouldn't come here. And it would have to happen after the draft, July 1. This is just more for the idea of how crazy this offseason may become.

MIL may consider the #8 for Henson.

Kings could just use the #8 on a guys like Smart or Gordon, and do a more traditional trade for the suggested Josh Smith. Or Brandon Knight or Sanders. Using JT, and DWill and Terry's enders isn't a horrible package.

If IT gets an offer from the gasp Lakers, and really tells the FO he wants to leave, then I could see a S&T for a guy like Meeks or Farmar to bring in another shooter or PG...I can't end on this note, so:

It's going to be a wild wild couple of weeks.

I don't know who the Kings would target if they trade down, which is why I'm having a hard time seeing that sort of deal materializing.

Unless its LaVine, Hood, or Ennis than it will be for someone the Kings haven't worked out.

I would consider it for LaVine, but that would be an odd choice if the Kings are trying to win now. He's a potential type pick. Hood can shoot, but doesn't exactly fill a need with Rudy here. Reminds me a bit of Outlaw. And Ennis is a guy the Kings liked earlier in the season. Would be a cheap, pass first option at point guard, but I'm not really a huge fan.

What I'm really saying, I don't know if whatever player we trade for WITH a later pick is worth losing a chance at Gordon, Payton, or Smart.

If could trade down SLIGHTLY, and still target Payton than, well, I'm on board.

Out of the teams ESPN mentioned being linked to the Kings, 76ers pick at 10, and you can probably get Payton there, but Philly as a trade partner doesn't excite me. I know some people like Thad Young. I think he's a fine player. Not the best fit here, though. MCW is the other guy, but we wouldn't get MCW and 10 for 8.

The other team mentioned with a relatively high pick is Phoenix at 14. Will Payton be there at 14? I don't know. Feels unlikely at this point. And who could they offer of interest? Bledsoe can't be traded yet. Plumlee had a pretty good year, particularly defensively, so I'd certainly take a look at him. If Payton is available, and the offer is 14 and Plumlee for 8, I'm taking that.

Those guys are top 10 picks though. They are just as likely to be gone by the time we pick at whatever number we're talking about trading down to. I mean, if you really like someone in that top 10 range then you'd just take them at 8, I'd think.

I was talking middle of the first round type guys.

I'm still hanging my hat on Gordon at #8 if he's there over everybody else. I just like how he'd help this team as a hustle glue guy.

Gay-Gordon-Cousins is an interesting frontline. Kings would be very athletic. Would need a more dependable option at SG, like Meeks for instance.

Hire a hypnotist to convince Gordon he's the new Rodman, basketball wise.

Randle still intrigues me too. Kings would be hard to handle on offense, that's for sure. Defense? There would be some probs. ;)

i like kj mcdaniels. he's a stat-stuffing 6'5 defensive guard, so he would fit nicely between isaiah thomas and rudy gay... BUT i would prefer a vet at starting sg and the team probably shouldn't be looking for starters late in the draft. looking for bench players might be better, someone like cleanthony early, anyone to replace travis outlaw.

Unfortunately for the Kings who already got that 19M spent as a consequence of Rudy opting in.

Oh well, good luck for the Kings next year when there will be less opportunities.
