Sacramento Kings: Kings owners Joe and Gavin Maloof drove the firing of Rick Adelman and the ill-fated hirings of Eric Mussleman and Reggie Theus. This time, the basketball executives are trying to wrest control back. Multiple sources say the Kings have all but eliminated the possibility of retaining interim coach Kenny Natt and have targeted Eddie Jordan to replace him.

Jordan was the Kings coach for one season in 1997-98 under GM Geoff Petrie, but, ironically, former owner Jim Thomas pushed to fire him once Petrie made the franchise-changing moves for Chris Webber and Vlade Divac.

European coaches – Ettore Messina and David Blatt – also have been mentioned as possibilities, but multiple league sources say the Kings are locked on Jordan.

Eddie Jordan

Ettore Messina -
Ettore Messina (born September 30, 1959 in Catania, Sicily) is an Italian professional basketball coach that currently serves as the head coach of CSKA Moscow of the Russian League. He has won 4 Euroleague championships as a head coach.

David Blatt
Blatt played basketball at Princeton University from 1977 to 1981 under coach Pete Carril. He participated in the Maccabiah Games as part of the USA national team that won a gold medal in 1981.

I've said I would be fine with Jordan. The next coach needs to be able to work with the front office and share a similar philosophy. Without that we'll continue to have problems. Ettore and Blatt are new names and I don't know enough about them to comment on them. No mention of Whis.

As far as the writer Adrian Wojnarowski, he is reliable as far as I remember.

Can we make this a yes/no poll on Eddie Jordan? I'm curious what the majority thinks on this possibility.

Ive never even herd of those two Euroleague coaches, but I would rather have them then Eddie Jordan round 2.

Edit: Blatt doesnt sound bad, from Boston =] and worked with Coachie.

Flip would be good, but I have serious doubts about Euroleague coaches. The game is different there than here in the states. Who knows how they would be able to coach the NBA style? I REALLY do not want another very risky coach that has little coaching experience.

I would rather take another chance with an unproven coach then go with a proven loser with a offensive mindset. If this team can score with Kenny Natt than it can score with anybody, go with a guy that can teach some defense.

Isn't CSKA a pretty good Euroleague team with big talent? Well, for Russia, anyways? I'd at least think of that route before Jordan, and certainly before the Whiz.

I don't like those names at all. While Jordan would certaintly be an upgrade over Natt, there are better options out there, and more than a few. As for the euro coaches.... no way.

I'am not a big Eddie Jordan fan. Actually, I'm not a fan of his in any capacity. I'd be fine with Flip.

...and I had my heart set on the Whiz. Please do not tell me that I have been mislead by the Bee.

(I can't imagine this will go over too big on this site)

I think I know who Petrie's pick is! ;)

Eddie Jordan would of course be Geoff's pick, because Geoff is the very reason we are a soft pathetic franchse and is looking for his soft pathetic coach. We need to be able to capitalize on this by getting Charmin as a sponsor.

Eddie Jordan is at least an NBA coach. But he's the nothing of NBA retread coaches. All he coaches is offense. He can't control his locker room. And he can't win any significant number of games. He's perfect for us to suck up to Kevin some more though, as he'll never ask him to do anything but be pretty and score and winning 41 games a year will be plenty. Get our announcers creaming over our #8 seed and being a "playoff team". Get Geoff creaming jsut as long as we are scoring and his precious college system is in place. Be great joy.

There are at least 10 European coaches that are way better than half of the NBA coaches. Then again - Kenny Natt wouldn't coach any decent European team. When D'Antoni and Karl were coaching in Europe - they weren't the best coaches by any means.

Brick for GM.

I am way not enthused about Jordan for exactly those reasons listed. He'll have us scoring 110 a game but giving up 120.

Be great joy indeed. :p

I'm not gonna vote, because Jordan is way better than Natt as a coach. I'd still rather have Avery Johnson or someone though.

I don't disagree with this. But if Geoff is going to be the architect, he should choose who is going to execute his design. He is the one who is responsible for acquiring the players. If Geoff is the problem, we should be thinking of letting him go. His contract ends after next season. Trying to force Geoff away from his natural instincts has been a problem these past few years. The coaches have not gotten much out of the players Geoff has acquired.

There is a popular saying here on KF "want defense, bring in defensive players", it's something I agree with. That should hold true to Jordan as it did with Adelman, and to whomever we hire. It seems people want this team to be something it's not. The team we have is not a defensive team. Under the right coach and system you may get better defensive results from them, but will it lead to anything more than what an EJ coached team could get? I don't believe so. Change can't happened with just a coaching change alone. (41 doesn't even get you in the PO's, ask the suns) If Geoff is going to be Geoff Petrie, it's best to let him hire the guy that he can work with, the guy he'll help.

The return of Pete Carril was heralded by a lot of forum members. Eddie Jordan is a product of Pete Carril. Theus took heat for what some perceived as a resistance to Carril's return. How can you root for Carril but not his under study? With EJ, it'd give Carril lots of influence, and it'd get the front office clicking with what the coaching staff wants to do again. The best teams always have synergy between the FO and coaching staff. Jordan, Carril, Petrie is the Triforce.

Martin, Hawes, Thompson would all benefit from Eddie Jordan. Even potential draft picks like Rubio, and Griffin could benefit from EJ.

I'm not campaigning for Eddie Jordan. If he is the coach, I'd be fine with it and will take a wait and see approach.
