No body should have any doubt of Chris Webber being one of the greatest Sacramento Kings ever. He brought the kings to greatness and i know he was the reason many people became kings' fans. Believe me, i hated him when he ruined our season when peja was the star, but there is no way that i can deny him of what he did. He made us proud to be apart of sacramento! C-Webb will always be the true Sacramento King... until franciso takes his place...lol jk.

definetly c-webb. ( i voted for him) i also think vlade.

IF peja plays his whole career in sacramento, maybe the kings win a title, maybe he goes on to score oh say 20,000 points in his career, i could see him getting his # retired. that is a BIG *IF* though.

im stunned at how many people think webbers jersey shouldnt be retired.... he was the face of the franchise for 5 years! the guy bleeds purple! if he isnt an automatic than who is?

no webber = no 5 straight playoff appearances

get yall priorities straight!

It is amazing how one can be unsure of whether Webb number should be retired and consequently be labled as not liking Webber.
Anyway, I can see the argument for putting Webb in the rafters. Thinking about it further, I think I would like to see less people's number retired. IF it wasnt for the fact that nearly the only slightly impressive player of the 80's-90s Kings was Mitch (sorry Reggie), I probably wouldnt want his name up there as well. I think my issue, here, is I like Vlade too dang much and I become a bit bias.

i understand what vlade meant to this franchise and his popularity. but to suggest his jersey should be retired and not webber's is another thing. as long as webber's is retired to, i don't have much of a problem retiring vlade's but to retire vlade's and not webber's is borderline crazy. i know vlade is a special case... but I can't think of many other analagous cases in the nba where their jersey has been retired.

I think you should let it go with both of them getting retired.;) I think, if less jersies were to be retired and they HAD to choose only one, poor Vlade might would be the one left out. His contributions were much more 'behind the scenes' so to speak.

I would be very disappointed if both Vlade & Webb's jersey were not up in the rafters at some point. Honestly, Vlade was loved by all, and Webb helped put Sacramento on the map. And while Vlade may have been the face of the Kings to the fans as we know and love him, Webb was the face most other teams/fans associate with the Kings of the past. Vlade walked for more money, Webb was traded heartbroken, and I don't think either of those circumstances will impact whether or not their jerseys are retired.

In my mind, the Kings as we knew them were known for their chemistry and their success in rising from a no name team to a serious threat. Those things don't happen without those guys.

shouldnt this wait until after next season?

peja might go off on some larry bird [Explicit]....

god only knows what bibby will do at the end of games this coming season and so on....

Vlade and Chris will definitely be in the rafters. Bobby and Doug will not. If Mike and Peja stay with the Kings for several more years and have significant success, ( not necessarily a championship, but at least a trip or two to the finals) I would expect to see them retired as well.

#43
Possibly none of them. If the team moves within the next few years it won't make a difference what they contributed during the Sacramento years.

If the team remains, both Webber's and Divac's jerseys should be retired.

I'll go on record right now as saying this isn't going to end well.

Chris? Maybe.
Mike? Possibly, depending on the rest of his time here.
Doug? No.
Peja? Probably not.
Vlade? Hell yes!
Bobby? Probably not.

EDIT: I have to agree with the idea that people should have been able to vote for more than one. This isn't really an accurate assessment of anything other than people's favorite KINGS-ERA player.
I totally agree.

The Webber trade. Times changed, and they wanted desperately to ship him off. After the trade numerous reports came out saying that everyone in the offices celebrated and were happy that they finally found a taker for him. I actually don't know how much of that is the Maloofs personally or the organization around them, but there it is. Times changed and they felt that they did not want Webber around anymore. Personally I think that no doubt Webber's number should be retired, but that is a very "political" issues with fans of this franchise.
I think its a no brainer that both Vlade and Chris will have their numbers retired. Bibby still has alot of gas in the tank and I think has a damn good chance of it later, he's got a 'second team' to quarterback now, lets see what happens.

Vlade is the only one I think has a chance of getting their Jersey retired in Sacramento. I have a feeling that none of these guys will but if anyone does its Vlade.

Edit: After thinking for a couple minutes I think that Peja has a good shot if he can turn into one of the best shooters ever and get over his playoff troubles and be a consistant multi-threat every game.

Just because they dont get their Jerseys retired doesnt mean these individuals dont deserve some sort of plaque, mural (sp?), or statue somwhere in or on the main entrance thanking these 6 for bringing the Kings back. Only an idea.

i think vlade's is the only one that could be conceivable. maybe mike's or peja's if they become kings for life...but until then, vlade is the one amongst those names who had a lasting power in sacramento. webber did as well, but i think his years here were too rocky for them to realistically commemorate his jersey's retirement. vlade's one of those warm fuzzy feeling kinda stories. he did a lot for the team and the city, and was without controversy. gotta be #21.

but, if it were my choice, i would retire #4 and #21 together. i think webber did more for the kings than any player in sacramento history. richmond? forget it. i would absolutely love to see the kings organization commemorate the "end of an era" by retiring both vlade's and chris' jersey, together. that would be awesome.

How does Peja get the nod before Webber? Webber made the Kings.

Im talking about the two of the 6 remaining and I think Peja has a better shot at it than Mike IF he can do what I said. Webber made the kings and was an incredible player. Had he not been injured he would still be here, we may have 1-2 championships or at least a trip to the finals and he would have had his jersey retired but his career was cut short with the injury and it ruined his chances. IMO. But for what was said above I was only talking about Mike and Peja.

jersey retirements are typically reserved for two kinds of players: greats/legends and influential mainstays. the nba's greatest have their jerseys retired and those who commited to a single team and made an impact often have their jersey's retired as well, out of appreciation and respect. i think vlade divac qualifies for the second category. webb would have as well had he not been traded. even with the knee injury, had he run out his contract in sacramento, i think he would be in consideration for a kings jersey retirement. that doesnt mean it would happen, but i think it would be realistic.

That's not actually that rule if you look at the guys who have been retired around the league. Drexler is retired in Houston for all of three years. Barkley is retired in both Philly and Phoenix despite relatively short stints. Webber is a no brainer on those scales, and again, its very hard to see the Maloofs NOT retiring that number regardless of who else they put in. Would raise a lot of questions. The man put us on the map, was the amin man during a very special era. His jersey retirement will be the nice classy enshrinement of the best era the Sacramento Kings ever had, and may end up EVER having if an arena deal can't be salvaged.

Vlade, I think definatly.

Chris...Thats tough. He was the face of the franchise, but he never got us over the top...After it's all said and done, I don't think he'll get the honor.

Bibby, it may still be to early to tell, but if he doesn't start to be THE leader, and soon, then no.

Everyone else...No.

The Maloof Organization retired Mitch Richmond's jersey. He was the best Sacramento King of the early years. He was traded. He did not get us over the top. He still got his jersey retired.

With all that in mind, how can they not retire Chris Webber's jersey?

Vlade Divac...great guy, team leader. He did not get us over the top. He did not get us a championship. He did not have near the stats as Richmond or CWebb. Some want his jersey retired and not Webber's. That just makes no sense at all.......none!

there aint no way in hell vlades gets retired and chris' doesnt plain and simple.... theyre both getting in.. BOTH!!

yoda, i dont know how u can say vlade was more the face of the franchise over webb.... we lived and died with webber... we didnt live and die with vlade... like brick stated earlier: webb healthy= title hopes one freakin shot away and and one controversial 4th quarter(game 6 2002 wcf)... webb injured= title hopes dwindled away.

i would agree that webb is the face of the sacramento kings franchise, and mostly because, at one time, he was a completely legitimate and dominant star power forward that was capable of lighting a team up for 25 10 and 5 any given night, with relative ease. he's only a shadow of that man today, and i dont care how much crap he gets, he was an amazing ball player.

but, i consider vlade and chris as like co-faces of a sacto kings era. for at least 3 complete seasons, those two were among the greatest big man duos in the nba with their versatiliy, finesse, and team-game prowess. they might very well have been the best big man duo at the time.

either way, if one gets retired jersey status, the other should. i think it should be a ceremony in which both are retired together. for 7 years, they redefined the role of the big man. they proved that big men could do more than just play down low, while at the same time creating from those low blocks with a finesse missing from most big men today. and, when injury and age prevented both from reasserting themselves down low, they redefined their skillsets again. they were incredibly versatile, and i think only kevin garnett has as complete a skillset today (not talking about overall talent. i'm talking about a set of skills that expands a players game beyond his position and role). i'm gonna miss those days, and i thank those @ chriswebber.com for the video highlights and the memories. thats quite a treat, if ya ask me.

Vlade might just make it to have his number retired. And if it does happen, I think he will be one of the least talented players to have his number retired.
And if Webber doesn't get his number retired, it would be an outright travesty.
