I've heard that a few times. Glad to hear it from a source with some knowledge. The railyards isn't bad, but I think DTP just has more positives location wise and the chance for simultaneous development.
Yesterday David Taylor spoke at the ULI reception at the Crocker and said that Downtown Plaza arena site will create economic spinoff.
Assistant City Manager John Dangberg also said "If arena is built at Downtown Plaza, it'd be part of larger real estate project with sq footage that'd dwarf arena."

I'm all far the arena being built at the DTP. Having been to Staples Center several times now, I've seen first hand how having an arena right in the center of downtown is great for everyone located there business wise. I'm not a big fan of the design of Staples, but I love its location.

Some tweets about the hearing:

However this goes down, there are a cornucopia of quotes by Hansen and SEA attorneys regarding the lack of a final arena deal

Chris Daniels ‏@ChrisDaniels5
BREAKING: North didn't even hesitate. Clearly he had already made his decision. (North was the judge)

Aaron Bruski ‏@aaronbruski
This means that ILWU will have to wait until a later date to challenge the EIR process.

Carmichael Dave ‏@CarmichaelDave
In the end, Sacramento will retain the Kings based on the strength and merits of its OWN proposal, not the weakness of Seattle's.

Shawn Borin ‏@bgpappa
So Hansen wins, but because there is no legal binding decision. So he won in Court, but how is Stern looking at it. (emphasis mine)

What WILL be significant about today? If KJ gets all ducks in a row, Sac will have leg up in "shovels in the ground" argument to NBA

Chris Daniels ‏@ChrisDaniels5
ILWU Attorney Mann - This not a done deal. But no plans as of right now to appeal.

Carmichael Dave ‏@CarmichaelDave
But Sac is a year removed from their council cutting a check, with a state law streamlining enviro rulings as opposed to I-91. Big ad- Sac

Chris Daniels ‏@ChrisDaniels5
ILWU Attorney Mann expressed disappointment in decision, says NBA should pay attention to KC/Sea admission #SeattleArena deal isn’t done.

Aaron Bruski ‏@aaronbruski
As I wrote, I think it's a tightrope SEA can walk, but procedural advantages SAC has due to new EIR law give them head start

Dale Kasler ‏@dakasler
I'm told by @McCannSportsLaw that Hansen's insistence there isn't a done deal for arena probably won't come back to haunt him with NBA

Yep. As has been pointed out by Crown Downtown, in order to win their case, Seattle pretty much had to convince the judge they have no arena deal

The auction -- held at Mixology at The Grove -- featured a red dress from the Kim Kardashian collection (worn by Kim herself) and a signed Charlie Sheen jersey from the movie "Major League" (see below).

I'm really surprised the Maloofs didn't buy the Sheen jersey.
I am sure Jesse Jackson Jr will be all over this stuff! ;)

Well im lost... after the "trade" (i see more as robbery) went down i have left kings basketbal compleatly and focusing only on relocation side of the game.... however what is this lawsuit??? and has anything changed in the last week?? and when is the date all this will be decided?

Lord help me.

Dude I know. My response to the joke was quite Yogi Berra-esque. In my not very humble opinion, of course.

That's what I was thinking but the lack of a smiley and the shortness of your answer had me wondering. Yogi was known for drawing out his quotes well beyond one sentence and jokes are usually followed by a smiley. I used to post on a New Orleans board where nobody understood sarcasm.

@RicBucher: Take whatever you want from it: asked if Ron Burkle could keep the Kings in Sacramento, a Burkle business associate said, "Iffy."

It is Bucher so it probably means exactly the opposite of what he is reporting.

This is expected after reading the story about "rocky" negotiations. If it's a Burkle associate with the "iffy" quote, that could actually be a good thing for Sacramento. Nobody is going to play their hand before they have to. If Burkle is negotiating with the city, the last thing he's going to do is say is that there is a deal to be had. The leverage jumps to the city at that point.

I am glad KJ is taking the time to get everything right...but the more time that passes with no news, the more opportunities for know-nothings like Bucher to post garbage like this. Does anybody take this guy seriously...?

The lawsuit was from the Port Authority up in Seattle. They sued to block the arena being placed in the SODO district. If they had won and the lawsuit had been allowed to continue it would've been a huge stumbling block for Hansen. They argued the EIS was a sham and the decision on where the arena was going to go was already decided before the EIS was even started. They are correct that it had already been decided but because there isn't anything in writing they have nothing to stand on. The Port Authorities lawsuit was thrown out as was expected. The NBA was OK with this (part of the American way).

The Port Authority won't have another opportunity to sue until the EIS is completed and by that time it will either be a mute point (Kings staying where they belong) or too late.

There is another lawsuit on the legality of the financing still in the works. However, I don't think many (other than the news sources wanting hits) put much stock in that suit either.

After his know-nothing Sulia slam on the local investors announcement? No way. The guy's a complete hack.

Look, Kevin Johnson isn't focusing a huge part of his political time here in negotiating with a party bringing an alternate bid on the Kings who wouldn't be ready, willing, and able to keep the Kings in Sacramento. That's the bottom line. Bucher either needs to stop and actually think for once in his life, or he's getting paid off. Probably the former, though. After his local investors gaffe, there were a bunch of critical comments but the one he responded to (the one that touched a nerve) was the one that suggested to him that once upon a time reporters knew what they were talking about before they reported it. I suspect that's happening here again.

I don't see anything wrong or discouraging with Bucher's tweet. How could Burkle say anything other than "iffy" at this stage. Do we expect a wink and a nod??? That's unrealistic. I don't see any reason to think we're NOT underdogs in this thing. Underdogs with a good puncher's chance.

I don't thing Bucher did anything wrong with that tweet, and I believe it is an honest quote presented in proper context, and it doesn't change a thing.

Bucher didn't talk to Burkle, he got his 'scoop' through a local businessman...which probably was like a Quicky Mart owner in like Rio Linda who knows NOTHING about ANY information on this deal. Bucher needs to just STOP with writing about this deal, he is HORRIBLE!! #smh

I'm curious, where did you get the idea that it was a local businessman? I thought Bucher's quote simply stated a 'business associate' which could be anyone he deals with, down to the checkout clerk at one of his grocery stores in Southern California.

Yeah, that's probably more the truth.

According to KCRA, the buying group will be introduced to the city council next week and the proposal will be brought to the NBA by the end of the week. This was info released by city manager Shirey.

I can totally relate.

This is basically what I did sometime mid-season last year (I think when they pulled out of the arena deal) when it became oh so clear that this org was going nowhere until the sickness at the top was removed. Still respect the core players, but the only "game" for me now is how can we get rid of the Maloofs.

If the Kings are a nation, the players are military, and right now they're not on the battlefield. They're basketball camp, until the opiate addicted General (Maloofs) is removed and and they can be properly led back into battle. (The Chinese literary epic version.)

Actually I heard that the original internet smiley face was modeled after a Yogi Berra picture, so what you say makes sense.

The end of sarcasm is a death knell for human culture. I have a highly refined sense of it, and often employ ninja-level sarcasm. People often never see it coming, but the down side is they never knew it was there.

In rather banal arena-related news (Hey, anything to fill the time until the whales are announced, right?) Aaron Bruski and Chris Daniels are starting to get a little chippy with each other on twitter.

Yeah I was following that last night...all the Seattleites were worshiping Daniels and calling pretty much everything in Sac a joke. #smh

I honestly can't stand Bruski's manner on twitter, no doubt he's a nice guy in real life but on twitter he just sounds like an ***.

not to mention his ludicrous statements about the kings.
