The OFFICIAL SF Giants thread.

SLAB

Hall of Famer
Well, we're heading into game four, and there is no threads for the Giants season, so I decided it was time to take matters into my own hands.

Other team fans, let's limit this to competitive smack talking, without turning into another Barry Bonds steriod thread...Please? :)

And for games that I get a chance to, which will be weekends and most night games on Mon/Wed/Fri I will do a little psuedo-gameday post...Storylines/pitching matchups/whatever else I think of...Tues/Thurs Im at college until 7:00, so if I get around to it, it'll be bonus coverage.

Giants Vs Braves

Cain to get his start tonight against the Braves...Potential Rookie of the Year (That doesnt get said in Giants world a lot). Im phyched for him, lets see of he can do it.

Tonights pitching matchup, 04/07/06...

Kyle Davies (No Stats) Vs. Matt Cain (No Stats)

Two youngsters out there, with Davies only having 21 career games. Should be interesting if they have first-start jitters.

Barry, or no Giants for that matter, has any HR's...Does a young pitcher change that with rookie mistakes? Perhaps.

Go Giants!
Boo LA. (And Tomko, tonights starter! ;))

And this just in via ESPN.com

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2401190

Noah Lowry on the 15-day DL (Strained Muscle).

Kevin Correia gets the call up...And with that, he will hopefully have a chance to show what he has...I've always felt he has potential, and when he can get any sort of a handle on his LIVE stuff he will be a pretty good pitcher in this league.

What a way to start the year for poor Noah. Just signed that new contract too.

Go Giants.

UGH that braves game is turning into a disaster. i got so excited because i could watch on TBS, and then the bullpen pulled a bad news bears performance.

I LOVE MATT MORRIS!!!!!!!!!!! he's going do have a great year. i think schmidt will too, cain as well once they get settled in. i don't out too much stock into the first few weeks because there are still kinks to work out, things like that

GET WELL SOON NOAH!!!!!!!! we need you badly!

GO GIANTS!!!!!!!!!!!

Talk about the inning from hell...

8 runs on two freaking hits.

...It's early, but Taschner has been pretty lame in his outings...I'd consider a demotion if there's one or two more sub-par outings from him.

And I've never been a Tyler fan...I'd try to trade him, as a player who saved 23 games last year has to have some value.

Braves Vs Giants
Game three, tied 1-1

124604.jpg
Jamey Wright (No Starts) Vs. Tim Hudson (0-0 11.25 ERA)
218596.jpg

Well, the Giants try to bounce back from the inning from hell, and try to even the series 1-1...After that inning, they just need to look at it like a fluke...8 runs on two hits is not going to happen but once a year...We got it out of the way early.

Making his first start for the Giants is Jamey Wright...His career has been in Coors Field so far, so we do not know what he can bring as a full-time starter in a pitchers park...What I do know is.

1: He pitched masterfully against the Giants in SBC last year.
2: He has a good curveball, which will benefit from the thick air of SBC.
3: He's entering his pitching prime...A good time for a scenery change.

Hopefully that will lead to success.

A few notes.
-Randy Winn has been a disapointment 4 games into the season.
-Pedro Feliz has no plate dicipline.
-Lance Niekro, though only hitting .222, has impressed me...With a good eye and a swing like his it's only time before he explodes...And I say bat him in the three holde.

GO GIANTS!
GO PHILLIDELPHIA! (Boo LA)

Giants (3-2) Vs Braves (3-3)
Game 4, SF leads 2-1
4/9/06

Jason Schmidt (0-1, 5.14 ERA) Vs. John Smoltz (0-1, 9.00 ERA)

-The Giants can win the series with the Atlanta Braves with a win tommorrow.

-I'm going to be at this game, so hopefully I will not be dissapionted in them.

-Anyways, it should definatly be a good pitchng matchup between Schmidt/Smoltz...Schmidt needs to revert to his spring training ways, which would make him out ace...The way he threw his first start, plus last season I don't know what to expect...But if he can throw like he did in ST, I'll be pleasantly suprised.

-Game 6 of the season...Still no Bonds HR.

GO GIANTS!

Jamey Wright pitched pretty damn well today, giving me a nice warm fuzzy feeling about our fifth starter. It is a long season, long enough for our young relievers to develop. We have a very deep bench which will be key for us.

Health is the only thing that could deny us of a title.

GO GIANTS!

I have several comments.

1. Slab, thanks so much for this thread and your updates. I don't always get to watch or have time for baseball (my second love to basketball) and your updates are very much appreciated.

2. I have good feelings about this year's Giants. I see a lot of talent out there, especially the very talented veterans.

3. Got to watch the Giants beat up on the Braves today. My hatred for the Braves is 3rd only to the Dodgers and the Yankees. :p

4. Slab, could you put a date on each posting of game info, so I can keep track of which games we are speaking of more easily?

No prob 6th!

I'll also start adding in the team's records.

great bounce back today. i got a little nervous towards the end, but we pulled it out. wow we spanked hudson today, not an easy thing to do

GO SCHMIDTY!!!!!!!!!!!!! he needs to have a better game then last time. smotlz is never an easy matchup, i hope we kick some butt.

i hope bonds plays. DAMN he was hitting some ROCKETS today

i don't like the braves, but i love how they are on TBS, so i can watch them. it's so wierd not being able to tune into the giants anymore, i can't afford MLB extra innings :(

GO GIANTS!!!!!!!!!!! get us a win tommorrow SLAB

WOO HOO!!!! you got us a win SLAB! schmidty looked really good until jones hit that doinker off the foul pole. 10 K's, very nice. 5 walks not so much, but eh what are you going to do. he looked great until the 7th. LANCE NEIKRO!!!!!!!! and RANDY WINN!!!!!!!!! oh i LOVED IT!

eff the A's plain and simple. this is all about the GIANTS BABY!!!!!!!!

Go Giants!
As soon as we get Lowry and Benitez back.... :)
I was impressed by Jason's pitching today. He could've done without some of the walks but those 10 strikeouts were sweet.

Yes, Schmidt looked pretty good, minus the one pitch to Jones, out there today...Like old Schmidt with pitches reaching up to 96 at one point.

And seeing one of my favorite Giants hit an absolute blast to tie the game was awesome!

I loved it!

Great comeback. Great game!.

Giants (4-2) Vs Astros (4-2)
4/11/06, Game One

119403.jpg
Matt Morris (1-0, 1.42 ERA) Vs Taylor Buchholz (0-0, 0.00 ERA)
430587.jpg

Well, I've got an early edition today so I can take the full day off tommorrow, as well as get some extra pre-game disscussion going on.

Anyways, the Giants are looking pretty good, especially with Barry, Ray, Randy, and Pedro doing pretty lousy at the plate...And the bullpen being for the most part atrocious...When those things straighten out, I suspect big things from this team.

The Giants get a youngster from the Astros, so hopefully his inexperience will come into play...Debuted April 7th, going 2.1 innings without allowing a run...Im banking innexperience will come into play sometime during the game.

The Giants send out Matt Morris...After one start, he looked the best out of our potentially very good rotation....I really liked what I saw from Matt, and am thinking hes going to have a great season...More of what we saw in his first start, and I see a W.

Bonds wtill with no HRs...But as he says, "I stink right now..." Let's change that Barry!

Niekro with the HR to tie the game! Hopefully instills confidence into him, and he can go on to be the player Im hoping him to be.

GO GIANTS!

grrr i wish the game was on nat TV tommorrow. i've been dying to see matt morris pitch, hopefully he does on the sunday night of the week V the BUMS!!!

KICK SOME HOUSTON BOOOTY!!!!!!!!

Tonights game...

Has been POSTPONED, due to the rain.

Now we lose our shot at the youngster Buchholz, and we will probably see BOTH Pettite and Oswalt.

Yay.

New Pitcher tommorrow.

407840.jpg

Brandon Backe (1-0, 1.50 ERA)

Sigh...Another rainout.

To be made up May 8th...

This rain in SF garbage is getting annoying...I want my baseball, darnit!

Giants (5-2) Vs Astros (5-3)
Game two, 4/13/06, SF leads 1-0

430912.jpg
Matt Cain (0-0, 6.00 ERA) Vs Roy Oswalt (1-0, 3.14 ERA)
400061.jpg

Rain rain went away, and the Giants improved to 5-2 on the season with another win...And now we get the nightcap, whcih will pit Oswalt against Cain...I'm not feeling to good about tonight...Oswalt is really good...But Cain can be just as good, so lets see if he can keep his pitches in control, and if he does we have more than a shot.

Barry Bonds proves he can still hit, nearly jacking 2 out, then nearly putting one straight through the chain link fence in right field...We won a few games without him hitting at all, so lets see what we can do with him hopefully on his way back to his usuall great self.

Morris has looked great his first two starts...I know its early, but its looking like he was definatly a wise investment...Lets keep it up Matty Mo.

Feliz/Durham/Winn may be breaking out of their early season slumps...Put that with Barry breaking out, we may be a tough team to beat.

Matheny has looked terrible at the plate this year...Turn it around, please...But his defense is worth the expense of his atrocious offense.

GO GIANTS!

Ugh.

Not good.

I'm predicting one of two things is to be done very very soon.

1: Jack Taschner gets sent down...Not a very good start for the kid...Maybe a Merkin callup?

2: Tyler Walker gets sent down/released/traded...He'll have more leash because hes proven he can succeed, but if there is a knee-jerk reaction.

Giants (5-3) Vs Dodgers (5-5)
Game 1, 4.14.06
124604.jpg
Jamey Wright (1-0, 5.14 ERA) Vs Brad Penny (2-0, 1.50 ERA)
207267.jpg

And from what Ive been hearing, the forecast is MORE RAIN!

yay...

So we have our fifth starter, who actually pitched really well, only to have the bullpen make his start look a bit ugly, against what seems to be the REAL Brad Penny...The guy who LA traded their heart and soul for...Let's hope he cracks.

Barry showed signs of heating up in game one of the double header, nearly jacking 2 out then nearly crushing one through the wall...Plau he has more adversity, so lets hope he responds with fire, and say 5 homeruns this series.

Jack Taschner needs to be sent down...He's looked ugly.
As has Tyler Walker.

GO GIANTS!

Giants beat the Dodgers. Woohoo! Only thing that beats that is the Kings defeating the Lakers. Oh yeah, baby!!!! :D

WORD!!

I hope the Giants keep Worrell in the closer role until he proves he can not do it. Let Benitez come off the bench.

Giants (6-3) Vs Dodgers (5-6)
4.15.06, Game two, SF leads 1-0

121834.jpg
Jason Schmidt (0-1, 5.79 ERA) Vs Odalis Perez (1-0, 8.64 ERA)
136602.jpg

Last night was an awesome game in pretty mcuh every single aspect...Suspenseful, great pitching...O yes, and the Giants beat the Dodgers! Thats always good for a celebration of sorts!

Tongiths we have Schmidt who has pitched much better than his record/ERA indicates...Only throwing a few bad pitches which got turned into HRs...Struck out 10, and looked (besides the home run) like the normal dominant Jason Schmidt from 2 years ago.

Bonds is dealing with bone chips in his elbow...Alou is dealing with a calf injury...All I can say, is thank godness we got Steve Finley...The guy is the best 4th outfielder in the game, and he will produce just fine filling in for either of those two.

GO GIANTS!
