The KingsFans Mock Draft discussion thread

No, go ahead and take mine if you want -- I mentioned before I'm really not a draft freak, so if you want in, you can have #7, which is...who is #7 anyway? Wash is #5. Minny is #6. #7 is...Golden State maybe?

Wait..do we know who's drafting for who yet??

And yes, 7 is GS

:( i got memphis...

Can i do what i want them to do or are we trying to make a prediction of what will happen in the draft?

Okay, as I suspected, I've already got a problem... I didn't factor in that Houston doesn't have any picks either... Crap. Anybody have any suggestions that don't involve me jumping off a cliff or anything similar?

If there's only 28 teams, then you can give my Cavs slots to the person who got Houston's picks. Problem solved :)

AAArrrrrggggggggggggh!

Okay, I'll sub Vlade4GM in for you as Pacers GM. I'm also going to arbitrarily give the last doubled team - Denver - to Capt. Factorial since Houston doesn't have any freaking picks. Hope that's okay.

:)

In a mock draft, the idea is to come as close as possible to what you think will actually happen.

Better than NO picks! ;)

Assuming that "trading" is intended I'd be happy to hold on to Houston as well and see if it makes sense to swing a deal with anyone - rumor is they want back into the draft.

So how/where will trades and general trade discussions take place? Would we post our ideas/wants in this thread and wait for response to see who's interested? Or will trading take place thru PMs?

I'm going to wait until morning to start the clock. it will be a 24 hour clock although I'm really hoping people won't take that long. I'll use the same indicator Brickie is using in the movie thread as much as possible. That means you'll have a red arrow next to your name in the first post in the actual mock draft thread.

These things are the most fun if you create a bit of a scenario to go with your pick but there's no requirement. We're just trying to see if we can do better than Chad Ford or any of the other myriad pundits out there who have already created their mock drafts.

Post the pick you think your team's GM will make. Give rationale and as much explanation as you wish. As I said, I once had the Raptor mascot kidnap David Stern because they were bitter over someone stealing their pick. Another drafter tried to steal a pick by locking a GM in a closet...but the GM in question managed to get free because he always carried a handy-dandy Swiss pocket knife with him and he picked the lock.

Again, have fun!!!

You've got Denver. :p

And people - forget about this trade stuff. It's not gonna happen. Trades are for fantasy drafts NOT mock drafts. You've seen the mock drafts by Chad Ford and all the rest of the sports writers, right? A mock draft is a prediction of what player you think WILL BE taken by the team you're representing, not a virtual GM fantasy...

We could do one of those if you like - in a separate thread - but you have no idea how complex they can get. Doing something like that requires constant updating, etc. and is a herculean task.

Once you actually start posting your mock draft picks, trades, etc. would be almost impossible to include.

No problem at all. :)

I think the idea of a fantasy summer, including draft day, trades, etc. might be fun but it would take some thinking to get it going. I'm thinking it could be done but we'd have to get a solid crew of GMs who wouldn't lose interest... It's worth considering, however.

Offer to all GMs from the Miami Heat:

Seeking starting C and SF in form of current player or top 20 draft pick; willing to trade #43 pick, #60 pick, Jermaine O'Neal and/or anyone else on the roster except Chalmers, Beasley, and Wade.

As I said in the other thread, this is a MOCK DRAFT. That means we're trying to replicate as close as possible what the actual draft will look like, much like the big guys like Chad Ford and a bunch of others do each year.

Trades are NOT generally part of a mock draft. Check the other thread. Having a fantasy off-season with each team being represented by a KF General Manager is something worth considering. You could conduct trades, make your draft picks, fire and hire coaches, etc. But it would take some really committed players AND a lot of time.

Here's a link to a mock draft...

Now if there's someone participating in the draft you would like to trade teams with, that's entirely different. If, for example, the person with the LA Lakers would rather have the Miami Heat, you're welcome to propose swapping teams.

And if, for any reason, someone drops out I'll give first dibs on their spots to those of you who got a bum deal from the randomizer.

Does that make sense?

That would be cool.

PMs sent - I've sent each of you PMs to confirm your participation since nothing can stop a draft like this quicker than someone who signed up but then never checks back to make their picks.

If you haven't responded by Sunday night (6/14), the team you were representing will be reassigned in whatever way I can do it without disrupting things any further.

All you need to do to confirm is reply to the email with a yes or no. Thanks!!!

With 24 hours to repsond, I guess this draft won't finish until after the real one?

well, assuming teams dont take the full 24 hours it should be done before the real thing .. Im hoping we get a pick every 4 - 6 hours at least .. I mean you sign up for something, the least you can do is make your pick.

Once it gets started, I think things will step along quite nicely. It's primarily the first 40 or so picks people are most interested in anyway... If it lags after that, no real problem. If it lags before that I might take steps to speed it up.

Borrow Brick's bat. Altho, baring those teeth and snarling might be enough. :p

Dang, the one draft where #1 is less fun... If this were a fantasy draft, I'd go creative and pitch the #1 pick for all sorts of players and/or picks. But, as VF has pointed out several times, this is a mock draft and we're supposed to go with who we think our team will pick on draft day. Given everything I've heard out of Clippers management, therefore, there's not a lot of room for imagination here...

So, on that note, the with the #1 pick of the 2009 NBA draft, the Los Angeles Clippers select Ri--

Just kidding. Blake Griffin.
