The Kevin Martin rule refinement?

Today has been the first day since the lockout that I have spent totally immersed in all things NBA. On one of the TV shows, they mentioned a refinement to one of the personal foul calls. If I understood correctly, if the shooter gets his defender into the air and then leans into him in the act of shooting (my pet peeve about Kevin), not only will the shooter not draw the foul he might be called for an offensive foul if the official feels he initiated the contact.

Is this correct? Am I the only one that will be happy if it's true?

I saw this a couple of days and it will be interesting to see whether or not it is officiated by mid-season.

I believe the primary objective is to make shooting fouls applicable only when the shooter is in his shooting motion.
So this should mean that anytime someone is fouled on the dribble, it's not a shooting foul unless they were actually shooting.
Also, it means that the swing-through move (the one where the offensive player swings his hands through the defenders' arms then makes the shot) is not supposed to be a shooting foul either.

We'll see how the officials call it, but if it's called as it's written, a lot of players are going to have to make adjustments, and Kevin will be one of those players.

It's about Durant and the sweep move not a pump fake that Kevin does alot.

I have mixed feelings. My suggestion would be to leave the interpretation of the rule the same, but make it a non-shooting foul. The player earned the foul by putting the defense out of position, but I don't think they deserve shots because they initiated contact.

I'm all for it. Less cheap fouls = more free flowing game, keeps the best players in the game and doesn't reward questionable tactics.

That's one I wish they wouldn't change. If the guy is defending with his hand stretched outward toward the ball and you go up into his arm/hand, that should be a foul. It's the same thing as if a guy outstretches his arm at a 90 degree and you run into his arm; should be a foul on the defender.

Just for clarification, I don't think they have outlawed this move. It will still be called a foul on the defender. It just will be a non-shooting foul now.

I want less free throws and I don't like awarding free throws on what wasn't an honest shot attempt.
