Ailene Voisin of the Bee has reported the following according to Cuz and Tyre Irving on Select Team.

"I think we beat them twice, or three times," said Irving. A visibly excited Cuz said,"We got the best of them today. Yeah. Select Team. We won most of the quarters. We just outplayed them. We made them turn the ball over, make tough shots, take tough shots. We rebounded better and got out and ran."

The Select Team beat the original dream team, too. If one believes in omens, this could be a good one. :)

The legend is Chuck Daly wanted the DT to learn a little humility before the Oly's, so he did all he could to throw that game. According to Coack K, at least.

that select team was all college kids

Kyrie is no joke, theres some videos out on youtube from the scrimages where he is just dominating guys on the olyimpic team.

???

Not sure what you think I meant. I'm well aware that college players were on the select team that beat the dream team, especially since Chris Webber was one of them. I didn't say anything about Kyrie Irving or anyone else being a joke.

I meant the select team back in 1992 was made up of all college players, whereas this one was all pros plus AD.
The Kyrie part was just my own little comment not in referance to anything you said :) .

Okay, first of all [/Barkley], the "Original" Dream Team? I ought to wash your mouth out with soap. Second, Coach Daly took a dive. And third, Michael Jordan ain't walkin' through that door. The Olympians might win tomorrow, but I'll go to the bank with this: it won't be nearly as lopsided as it was in '92.

SOTMRN...

I heartily apologize for the use of the word "original." Other than that, I was merely commenting on the possibility of the recent select team performance being a good omen. I would never compare today's Olympic teams with the real deal from 92. That team is. was and always will be godlike to me.

You should watch the documentary that recently came out on it, it's pretty good. In regards to the previous poster, Daly didn't play Jordan, Pippen, etc and didn't coach to win. He basically had them lose to the college kids to bring them together and form a team that would sacrifice for each other. Some clips from Webber too on when he beat them. :)

btw, that's a new acronym to me. Mind letting me in on it?

Saw glimpses of the scrimmage between the Select team and the real team last night on NBA TV, like 4-5 minutes orso.

DeMarcus started with a good fadeaway move and pumpfaked Blake into a foul, and then had a beautiful spin move layup with contact starting from about the free throw line.

He look really really heavy and gassed/out of shape. I can see why they say he's 290 now - hopefully he does lose some pounds and go back to around 270, cause he could hardly move.

On defense he again looked really heavy, played as usual with his hands gambling for steals and not giving the best of effort, hardly move his feet giving up on the play way too early going for a steal, and was just terrible on all the pick and roll situations they put him in atleast the ones they let us watch.

His defensive effort should be a top priority for him, cause he's really pciking up some horrible habits defensively and at time really look like a burden on the team when he doesn't try his best on that side of the floor.

His conditioning is key for his defense, so he's gonna have to work and continue to work hard - cause the way he played "defense" the 2nd half of last year was straight up junk and his attitude on that side of the floor made me cringe, and i'd hate to see it continue. He has the ability when he's motivated and wants to, but we need him to do it consistently and take pride in it on every play.

Latest comment on Cuz from Kurt Helin of NBC Sports at Olympic training camp:

"Cousins is still working on channeling his emotions back into his game, not becoming as overwhelmed by them. And when he does, watch out."

Nice that others see that too.

Agree with most of this. I wasn't happy with what I saw, and I watched the whole thing. Granted they didn't actually 'play' very long, but he didn't look very invested or interested in .. anything. I also thought he looked heavy. Moved like he had cement in his shoes. Blake Griffin SHOULD be able to get by him every time because he is in much better shape and much faster, but I didn't like how easy it looked. Cousins didn't even attempt to stop him or anyone else .. aside from a few dumb reaching fouls.

It wasn't pretty. He is an awful, and I mean awful defender right now. We kind of knew that already, but it is a harsh reality .. one I don't like to acknowledge. This is obviously why we need to pair him with a great defender and shotblocker, but that doesn't seem realistic right now. Hopefully the energy of Robinson can do something about that. It may make him a little more accountable for his own energy level. I know he is very competitive .. so I can only hope he will compete and try to out energy and out effort Robinson.

We'll see what happens. It's kind of the same story with Tyreke Evans. Both men have All-World talent - they just need to fix the other stuff. They can't be content with how they play right now. They have to want to get better.

20rebs/gm? There is that touch of greatness with Cousins that leads naturally to hyperbole, but 20rebs/gm hasn't been done since the 60s, and only 5 guys ever reached that mark.

Oddly, I think Cousins is capable but it would take another 2 yr to start seeing that IF, and a giant IF, he can focus his emotions on his game and not other players and the refs. The realGM article hits the high points on why he could.
