Anybody else already really tired of hearing "De-troit bas-ket-ball"?

I thought the Magic would put up more of a fight. I can only hope the old adage about the series not really starting until someone wins on the road is true.

I can't stand Detroit...they are arrogant, boring, and they don't give their all every game. For the sake of the NBA, I'm praying they lose.

Of all the announcers I have listened to, that guy is the absolute worst. How he keeps his job is beyond me....

Billups pulled Samakee Walker tonight. Let's just hope that Pistons don't win by 3 or less because - Orlando would be robbed

It appears that 3 pointer will have a significant bearing on the outcome as the Pistons are up 3 with 3 minutes left.

Btw, what's up with the "sodahead.com" advertisement featuring Derrick Rose of Memphis in the NBA MVP discussion?

Its not nearly as annoying as the Hornets guy's "Whoo!"

That's just inexcusable. This is the playoffs, how can you not get a clock problem right? You have three refs on the court. Does nobody have a stop watch?

Watch your mouth, now: that's the NAY-CHA BOI~! you're talking about...

LOL I don't see why you guys want the Pistons to lose this. SVG screwed us over for Orlando so I don't exactly like the Magic. The Pistons play team ball, play good D, and are not nearly as arrogant as people say they are. You want to call someone arrogant than talk about the Celtics or Lakers.

The Pistons aren't arrogant?! How many times have they made garuntees about games (and lost them nonetheless)? How many times have they underestimated their opponents and lost games as a result?

The whole "we don't care about individual accomplishments" is overblown with the Pistons as well - I remember Hamilton trashing a locker room after he didn't get selected to an All Star team. There have been several instances when I've heard Pistons players - Chauncey and Rip in particular - toot their own horn. They are also a team of whiners pretty much with the exception of Tayshaun.

And it isn't even their arrogance so much as their lack of desire and effort that disgusts me about them.

Not to mention, as VF pointed out, they have the most annoying announcer in all of sports (yes even worst than the And1 guy).

See I know they don't play up to their potential sometimes, but when they're clicking they play great team basketball. Sorry but I've seen plenty of teams with star players that it's not that special for me to watch the LeBrons and KGs anymore. I enjoy watching good team basketball and Detroit(and New Orleans actually) seem like the only teams that play that way(SA too but their flopping gets on my nerves and they have Duncan).

I don't recall the particulars, but do you honestly hold a grudge against SVG for opting to coach Dwight Howard over the cast of Kings?

And I guess I'm one of the few who doesn't find the Detroit PA guy that annoying. For anyone who has ever been to a Mavs' game, the Detroit PA guy is tame in comparison to "Humble" Billy Hays. I also like the fact that the crowd in Detroit at least gets behind the PA guy for his signature statement.

Edit: How does Jameer Nelson commit 6 fouls in last night's game? When he fouled out near the end of the 4th, that killed the Magic's chance to win since they didn't have their floor leader available (even if he's not exactly CP3).

I don't blame him but it still pissed me off that he strung the Kings along, toured the city, it seemed like he was going to sign with us and basically had a verbal commitment. I don't blame him for wanting to coach Dwight over the Kings, I blame him for how he handled the situation.

1) SVG played us. Still not enough reason to dislike a team with a fun and humble young star in Howard and two ex-Kings in the starting lineup.

2) the Pistons are the most insufferably arrogant team since the Shaq/Kobe Lakers. And with far less cause. Same we can turn it on whenever we want/this team isn't worth our full effort full of themselves B.S. Only in some ways its worse -- at least the Lakers won three straught titles, had two HOFers, and were routinely running through 55-60 win teams in the West every year to get those titles. The Pistons seem to think they are the shiznitz for being able to beat two 40-win teams every year to reach the Leastern Conference Finals.

After review, NBA says Billups' 3-pointer should not have counted

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/playo...000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000

NEW YORK -- The NBA admitted Chauncey Billups' 3-pointer at the end of the third quarter of Monday's Detroit-Orlando playoff game should not have counted, but said referees weren't allowed to review instant replay to determine that.

League president Joel Litvin also said the disputed shot, which gave Detroit a 78-76 lead in its 100-93 victory, could not have been replayed after the clock malfunction was discovered.

"After reviewing the video of last night's Pistons-Magic game, we determined that the play that concluded with Chauncey Billups' 3-point field goal at the end of the third quarter took approximately 5.7 seconds," Litvin said in a statement. "Because there were only 5.1 seconds remaining in the quarter when the play began, the shot would not have counted had the clock continued to run."

Billups was bringing the ball up the court for the Pistons when the clock froze at 4.8 seconds because of a problem with the arena's timing system. After he made the shot, the game referees had to estimate how long the play took without the aid of replay because the league's rules don't allow for reviewing a play to determine when the clock started.

The league said the timekeeper who worked the game was from a "neutral" city, standard procedure for all games.

After the game, Orlando coach Stan Van Gundy said the referees indicated it took 4.6 seconds to complete the play. Lead official Steve Javie declined a postgame interview by a pool reporter.

"The referees followed proper procedure in addressing the clock malfunction by estimating the elapsed time and using their judgment as to whether the shot was taken in time," Litvin said. "Under NBA rules, the referees did not have the option of using instant replay and a timing device to determine exactly how much time had elapsed, nor do the rules allow for a re-play after a clock malfunction is discovered."

The NBA frequently talks about expanding the instant-replay capabilities for game officials, but this might finally get the league to act.

"The NBA Competition Committee was scheduled to discuss the possible expanded use of instant replay at its meeting at the end of the month and we will raise, for the Committee's consideration, the use of replay in situations like this," Litvin said.

That's hilarious. They didn't review the play because according to the league they're not allowed to. That's a rule that's obviously going to change, but it still doesn't make it okay that nobody could figure this out at any point after the third period ended and before the last minute of the game and take three points off the board. That would have completely changed the outcome of the game.

It's just like the pass they granted Boston and Atlanta last series instead of the mandatory suspensions they gave the Suns and Spurs last year. Sure it's great that they get the calls right a year later, but why did nobody figure this out when it actually could have helped to determine the game? This is the difference between a 1-1 tie and a 2-0 Detroit lead. In the Conference Semi-Finals. That's huge. It's the playoffs, how can the refs be so handcuffed that they have to make a call on the court that they don't agree with? Are they going to replay the whole fourth quarter now? No, they're going to do nothing. Sorry Orlando, you got screwed, but there's nothing we can do about it. That's total BS. There was a lot they could have done about it but nobody wanted to take responsibility for it so they did nothing. Just inexcusable. This is a huge problem in the NBA and it's not isolated to just this incident. This is just worse because it's a playoff game. Why are we better equipped to make the right calls watching the game on TV than the refs on the floor? Wake up NBA, it's 2008. Get instant replay!

^what's really stupid is that the reason i keep hearing for the rule is that "we [the NBA] don't want to slow down the game." so instead of using a stopwatch and replay to solve this problem in 20 seconds, we had to wait 5 minutes while they deliberated on the court, and everyone else figured out the answer.

bloody brilliant.
