And likely more. Need a new starting big, and back-up center. That's for sure.

Plenty of back-ups/back-up types left, in FA:

- Jackie Butler
- Melvin Ely
- Kelvin Cato
- Francisco Elson
- Aaron Williams (Good defender, has a good jumpshot, and can score in the paint, good rebounder. Just not a shotblocker really. He's older, but he's solid still. Showed with the Hornets last year he can still go.)
- Jake Voshkul (he's not just some stiff who didn't play in Phoenix. He can shoot the j well, rebound, and defend. Would be good if Brad's gone as a back-up C, since he wouldn't compliment Brad much in the area of athleticism)
- Michael Olowokandi
- Jarron Collins

Potapenko backing up Brad is not nice right now. ;)

Probably won't be able to get him, but Wilcox and the Sonics, so far, are far apart in contract talks. Probably wants more than the MLE though. Isn't quite what we need, but he's athletic, good rebounder, can block some shots...

Looking at the list of Shooting Guards, it looks like a Bonzi deal is holding up any other action there. If a lot of teams are after him and he's asking too much, he might end up being worth quite a bit in a S&T. I hate this waiting. And it will probably be until next week, at least.:(

Well Ben is gone, Pryz is gone, Nazr is gone. Chandler will be in NO or Minnesota as part of a Garnett deal. That would mean Garnett is gone for us as well. Its beginning to look as if a ho-hum trade is all we got left to get a quality Big.

Never! We've got "flexible pieces" man! Life is good! :D

Good point about Banks... he is quite good at ball pressure defense (similar for Duhon, just a better playmaker and less athletic). I forget about that part of defense sometimes. Which brings up an interesting possibility with Musselman. He's said multiple times he wants to put more pressure on the ball (inbounds, opposition bringing the ball up the court, etc.). Could be something to look out for. :)

He's not a good playmaker, but he's not bad. Should be working on his 3PTer this summer, and can shoot from mid-range already. Obviously a good slasher, strong, athletic.

Him, Artest, Martin or Garcia or Wells on the court would be incredibly fun to watch.

On the other hand, I bet the Spurs could pick him up since it was said they'd be chasing him this summer back in early June. And need a back-up, quick PG. Guess they're not gonna use Beno there.

Kelvin Cato isn't that bad. He's a pretty good post defender and can grab rebounds but is a little old. Still i wouldn't mind getting him if we don't have any other options...

Centers
Ben Wallace -- Bulls - 4 years $60 million
Joel Pryzbilla -- Trailblazers - 5 years $32 million
Nazr Mohammed -- Pistons - 5 years $30 million

This really grinds my gears. We really needed someone of this caliber. Elson, Cato, etc won't do much to solve the problem, even if Brad/Kenny are shipped out for a serviceable, middling big man. Then we're just mediocre.

Well, Cato/Elson are back-ups, LP. Not starters (unless the starter is injured of course) and can be back-ups like Pryzbilla and Mohammed.

Regardless, Cato/Elson would be a fine choice for back-up C, and bring what we need in our front-court.

If we're really serious about rebuilding our front court and clearing cap space for the future then we should really consider trading Brad Miller. Brad can bring us back a solid defensive minded big along with another player while Reef can still provide offense in our front court.

I'd be good with that ^.

Hey, maybe going after Songaila means Brad will be traded. :p

Not saying that IS the reason, but in general, I just don't get why we'd sign him when we need interior defense and athleticism in our FC.

He has a jumper, remember? ;)

Lorenzen Wright?

I wouldn't mind us getting him, supposedly is looking for a 3-year deal. Good rebounder, pretty good offensive game, can defend in the post, athletic, hustles (takes charges like Brad does to make up for not really being a blocker). Just not really a shotblocker though

But still should try Cato/Elson/Butler... unless they want too much to our liking.

^^ Wrong. Pollard, Elson, Davis, Collins, Voskuhl, Williams, and Butler are all better at defense than Kandi.

I like all of them as well but Pollard. Kandi/Pollard I consider more bottom options for back-up C.

Elson we probably can't get because Nuggs issued a qualifying offer, I like him though.

Has anyone heard anything about Trevor Ariza?

If we do miss out on Bonzi I wouldn't be against bringing him in as a back up...Inconsistant, but has shown flashes, and can turn into a really good defender...And under Ron Ron's wing? I think I'd take him.

He's a restricted FA. He's athletic, good defender and rebounder, developing an offensive game (made some progress there this past season). Remember he killed the Kings back in November at Arco.

I like him a lot. But, I think we'd need/go after a guy with more experience than Ariza, to replace Bonzi's experience. Of course off the bench. I wouldn't mind at all if we got him, he's shown some nice things with the Knicks and Magic. But would prefer a vet. like R. Butler/Ju. Jones/Buckner/Profit.

Butler's probably gone by the time were done with Bonzi. Nets/Jazz/Nuggs are looking at him.

All have athleticism, can defend, and score (Profit the least, but we'd have other guys for that anyways).

Why didn't we go after Francisco Elson? He would have been nice off the bench to backup SAR that is if we can shed KT.

I totally agree, and don't know why we haven't/didn't. Denver did issue an offer to him, so maybe we didn't want to pay more for him than that.

He'd be one of the top choices for back-up center. But is likely to the Spurs.

The guy I want us to sign is Loren Woods...The guy is still pretty young, is tall, can block some shots, and is extremly fasy for 7-1 size.

Maybe worth a shot?

He's about 28 and lost his starting job to Rafeal Araujo

I'd say we can do a lot better than Woods... he hasn't really proven much from what I've gathered. I'd take Wright/Cato/Olowokandi before him.

Ready to defend: Mourning to re-sign with Heat

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=2520831

MIAMI -- Alonzo Mourning waited 13 years to win his first NBA championship. Now, the Miami Heat center wants to see what defending a title is like.

Mourning said late Saturday that he intends to return to the Heat next season, which would be his 14th -- not including a year he missed because of kidney disease that necessitated a transplant in December 2003.

Mourning made the announcement at his annual Zo's Summer Groove charity gala, part of a weeklong series of events he organizes to benefit underprivileged children.

There are still some contract details to be worked out. He played last season for a veterans' minimum contract of about $1.1 million, and it's expected that the Heat will not offer him significantly more for this coming season.

Mourning has had interest -- and, presumably, higher-paying offers -- in recent days from several other teams, including the San Antonio Spurs, but he rebuked that offer and said if he was going to play anywhere, it would be in Miami.

Mourning's decision means the Heat will likely have all eight of the primary members of their playoff rotation back next season.

All five starters -- O'Neal, Wade, Antoine Walker, Jason Williams and Udonis Haslem -- are set to return, along with sixth man James Posey (who exercised a $6.4 million option to stay in Miami at least one more season) and guard Gary Payton, who intends to play a 17th season and second with Miami.
