Miss Teen South Carolina????????????

you know, I had a job interview once that proceeded just about like that...

I still wake up occasionally in the middle of the night drenched in sweat having been transported back to the middle of that debaucle!

I tried really hard to make sense of that, trying to give the girl a chance. I just don't see how by helping South Africans and Iraqis are Americans going to be able to start finding the U.S. on world maps. Unless I have to be blonde to do so.....:p

On the news this AM, I heard that she said she "misunderstood" the question. I don't know if that makes it better of worse.;) Seemed to me like she understood, tho. Right off she said Americans can't find the US on maps, because, well... we don't have maps.:p

I haven't checked yet, but I understand that she explained the lunar eclipse. I just wonder if it was as bad as that. Anyone know?

NOPE. just finished watching it, sounds much more intelligent.

I've heard that the contestants were given a list of possible questions before and that they may have blown this question when asking it - supposedly the real question would have been that 20% of Americans can't find Iraq on the map. That would go a long ways towards explaining things.

Let's also not forget that she is now more known than the winner and that Jessica Simpson's career really took off once she started playing stupid on tv.

But what about the South Africans? Shouldn't we help them as well?

Blowing a question is one thing, but was an abject disaster. Even with a list of possible questions, you should be able to, as a scholarship student, be able to come up with a reasonable response. Heck, just saying, "we don't have maps" would have been enough, but no, she went off on a tangent with SA and "The Iraq", which really raised it to another level.

That being said, I feel bad for the kid. Nobody can escape YouTube.

I feel kinda bad for her cuz I think that she was tryin to make her answer sound educated...but it just wasnt working...but I dont know which one is worse...her answer or the fact that 1/5 of Americans cant locate the US on a map...thats terrible :/
