Kings Roster next season

Ham said an early bird rights deal would essentially come out to 4 year 50 million factoring in the 8 percent annual increase. I think it’s unlikely a team will beat that. That’s a touch more than I’d like to pay but it’s not outrageous. Would be even better if it was over 3 years. That would work out to be something like 11 mil, 11.8 mil, 12.8 mil for a total of around 36 mil.

I think Richaun plans to re-sign with the Kings unless a team comes in with an offer that is a couple million a year above ours

Moving him doesn't make you better but paying a 6th man that kind money has to come with some sort of qualifiers. Like WINNING. This is why not seeing if a new voice in the locker room within this season was so damaging. Right now the Kings are at the point of considering the option of coming in mostly, if not all the same with no guarantees on winning. When you start keeping your core together at this salary level and then go onto start considering keeping players that are on the peripheral of it you usually want to AT LEAST have verifiable evidence of being a playoff contender and truthfully, usually a contender. When you aren't you're basically operating on the foundation of hope that something randomly clicks and it all works. It's possible and yes this team even now is deep and talented, but if and when it doesn't work? Well, it gets you to a 15 year playoff drought with only 1-2 true rebuild attempts in that entire span. The 2nd one being on the back end of that number. So if they have to start back over with a bunch of bloated contracts you better tack on 4-5 years on the end of that because it won't be easy to get your cap back under control for at least a season or 2, or 3.
what 2 rebuild attempts are you counting?

the Tyreke Evans draft year and the Fox draft year?

Kind of funny in an NBA where everyone is looking for a top large wing that can swing 3-4 we still haven’t found one. Vlade drafting JJ over OG was just one of many ****-ups.

I tend to agree but I will point out that in 3 years that 10-11 mil contract may be a nice piece for trades either as ender or a relative cheap deal if wages inflate a bit more for bigs.

To add on to that, there just isn't many teams with a ton of available cap space AND a starting job available. And monetarily we can beat the MLE offers, so it's just a matter if some team offers that 15+ mil starting contract or not.

Just one team that has lots of cap space, penchant for overpaying, and need of a starting center. The Hornets.

Bleacher Report suggesting Holmes may get up to $80M/4 years, noting potential Hornets interest and reporting that the Hornets tried to trade for Holmes (offering Malik Monk?).

If true, we are powerless to match that, or come anywhere close, so that would be Goodbye To Richaun.

On the other hand, this is Bleacher Report, an outfit so journalistically adept that just today they explicitly quoted their source on the NBA tiebreaker coin flips and STILL got the date wrong by a week. So, you know, maybe wait and see what Charlotte or other teams do, because Bleacher Report can't be relied on to accurately report publicly-available information, much less "insider scoops from sources".

Can anyone think of examples of recent centers who received a deal in the 4 year 80 mil ballpark?

Christian Wood got 3 year 40 mil. He is younger and bigger.

Trezl got 19 mil over 2 years. He is prob considered a pf but still.

Allen got 100 mil but is considered an elite defender and is 22.

he is similar to Allen in the sense that he doesn’t need the ball and fits in easily on offense. He isn’t as big of a different maker on D though and is 5 years older

Yeah, they finally committed to getting a pick with Evans and let him run the entire show that year. That netted them Cousins who wasn't at all a good fit next to Tyreke and pretty much spelled his doom. Then Fox was the other attempt once they moved Cuz. In between it was bringing guys like John Salmons back into the fold to raise the bar. lol.

I seriously doubt any team would offer a non-3 point shooting center $20 million a year in this current NBA. Honestly, if that happened then good for Richaun and thanks for the memories.

However, I think the most a team may try to offer Richaun is $13-15 million a year. If the Kings top off at the max they can offer, about 4 years/50 million, I think Richaun stays.

Olynyk signed 4 years for $50 million if I recall correctly

Drummond got paid by the Pistons for being a one dimensional big so it's not out of the question that a team like the Hornets would be willing to throw the bank at Richaun considering he is a efficient/hustle player who knows his role and won't hurt your team too much out there unless he defends big centers.

Capela, 5/90 a couple years ago

With Holmes it's all about how much GM's were paying attention to his pick and roll numbers. He's one of the top in that area in the league and his usage is huge so there's a lot of security when it comes to his abilities there.

Not drafting Poku will be another massive mistake in a few years.

Yeah Im one of the biggest Richaun fans, but you just can't pay that for a non-star C that doesn't shoot 3's. As big of an impact as I believe he makes on both ends, investing that much in a non-star C just doesn't make sense in a league dominated by guards and wings.

yeah it for sure takes skill and luck. We were unlucky when Geoff drafted and unskilled when Vlade drafted. The result is 15 years in the wilderness.

La

one could argue the center position had lost a little value since then even though it was only a few years back.

Holmes is an interesting case since he is
Neither a defensive ace nor offensive monster. Maybe a 60 mil dollar deal will be on the table.
Capela is absolutely worth it. 15/14 w/2 blocks in 30 mpg. He can anchor a D, mobile, sets good pix, ridiculous rebounder... I love Richaun, but he's no Clint Capela.

Why do ppl think Capela is available though? He’s been great for the Hawks this year and they finally got a winning team

Monte is not going to be timid in his efforts to improve the Kings.
He can’t afford to be. It’s take a .550 record to make the playoffs in the West. Going into next season with a team you don’t think can do that is just another wasted season. 16 and counting. We have enough data now to know this team currently cannot reach that goal. So you need to start making some really bold moves.

I think a big key to next season is whether or not Buddy accepts a role coming off the bench. Buddy's ideal role is a "Lou Williams" instant offense player as the 6th man. If Buddy would accept that role and Haliburton can start at SG, I think that will go a long way in getting the Kings into the playoffs next year. Unless, the Kings are able to trade Buddy for a good rotation player.

Also, Monte needs to get a good 3 and D, either through draft, FA or trade, to fill in the PF or SF spot opposite Barnes. Even retaining Mo Harkless for that spot may be a good get. If Richaun gets signed away in free agency, the Kings will need a 3 and D SF or PF to fill out the starting line up. If the Kings lose Richaun, Bagley will likely start at center, so the Kings will need a defensive specialist to fill out the Front Court.

The team has zero shot at the playoffs if Bagley is the starting center next year.

TD fits the energizer off the bench role much better than Buddy. Hield (and Marvin, for that matter) looking quite expendable at the moment.
