Could we all agree Donte Greene is unlikely anytime soon if ever to be the Kings savior. WE NEED A LEGIT NBA BACK-UP CENTER NOW!
These are not incogruous statements. Firstly, is Greene only allowed to get minutes if he is a so-called "savior?" Secondly, unless you think that Petrie and/or Westphal think that Greene is going to develop into a center, what does our needing a backup center have to do with whether or not we play Greene?

I guess we have diametrically opposing views on this. This isn't a junior high school tryout. This is the NBA. If Donte Greene isn't seeing court time, I'm going to believe there's a reason...
Even if this is true (which I, personally, am not willing to stipulate), that's still not an excuse for not playing him, especially not when the games don't count. At twenty-one, with only one season of sporadic playing time under his belt, Greene is still an unknown commodity and, in my opinion, it certainly should be important to someone in Kings management to find out what his value is, whether he's a good player that we need to utilize, a bad player that can con some other team into thinking still has an upside, or an ugly player that we need to cut our losses on. But, here's what we absolutely should not be doing: we should not be burying Greene on the bench behind veteran journeymen.

This is much worse than the Wallace situation, because at least then you had the excuse of a team that was trying to compete for a championship, and didn't have time to develop a kid at a position where they already had two good players. But this team... well... ain't. And Mason, Nocioni and Garcia, to put it mildly, simply aren't good enough to justify Greene not playing at all. There is no good reason to sit a twenty-one year-old untested kid behind five and ten-year journeymen veterans, on a team that's not going anywhere whether the vets play or not.

Play him, trade him, or cut him; just don't bury him behind some other scrub.

Donte got a start at some pint last season, and him and JT loook VERY GOOD. Donte has not gotten any consistent minutes at all, and I would personally prefer for him to get 20 minutes a game, no matter how bad he plays. This team isnt going anywhere near the playoffs no matter wo plays. So why not get some questions answered in regards to Donte.

I liked his enthusiasm and hustle when he did play. You know exactly what you are getting with the vet journeyman players, and it isnt good. So get Donte's butt on the court and see if he stinks it up like everyone else did last year. What is the worse that happens? This team only wins 16 games??? We were pretty close to that last year, so who cares.

Oh, and the people already bashing Westphaul's rotations or his lineups........ GET REAL. Pick ANY coach in the league and place them at the helm of this King's team. They would still stink. No matter who he played and how he rotated players.

Which is actually precisely why the rotations need to be right -- we aren't going anywhere no matter who starts or who gets the minutes, so there is absolutely no point in not getting our kids all the development time they can handle. If they don't develop, we are going to be bad for a very long time.

Much like Muss and Theus before him, Westphal can win 32 games this season on the backs of the vets and completely fail us, or he can win 25 games this season playing the kids and actually have had a successful season. You're right that the way to judge a coach in this situation is not really with wins or losses.

Your first point and your second point completely contradict each other.

The reason people, like myself, are complaining about the rotation is because Greene didnt play.

And I know its not the end of the world, and I know its 'just pre season' but that doesnt mean I cant have an issue with a player who should be getting playing time isnt getting playing time. Im not writing this team off because of it, im not calling our coach Westfail yet, Im just making a point.

Good lord you expect a lot in two pre-season games from a new coach, a very young team and half the roster has never played together.

You reaaaaally dont get it. I've been part of random pickup games that featured more talking than these guys. Man to man defense isn't something you develop with the team. Man defense is your own work ethic. These are not things you need to sit with 11 other guys hashing out. Perhaps you should expect more out of people who get paid millions. Or am I wrong to expect that these professionals have a better competitive nature than amateurs? Stop giving them free passes for every single thing.

I will give you the rotations, but on pick and rolls, there should not be this kind of miscommunication repeatedly. These people have played basketball at the cream of the crop level for years. These things are not new to them.
