I'd like to clarify a bit more: When I mentioned the good old days, I was talking about the days when the feeling on this board was one of family. A lot of us knew each other off the board - we even had get-togethers and groups of us met to watch away games at various locations around Sacramento. In addition, about 30-40 of us would meet to attend House Party Live, a TV show that ceased to be a few years ago.
I'm not talking about the discussions, etc. I"m talking about the warm feeling of sharing my love of this team with some of the best fans in the world bar none.
Lol! That was funny.
I'd like to get back to that as well. If we just lay down and let the team suck year after year without expressing our displeasure as fans we'll just end up as another Clippers, Bobcats, Hornets... ect. I don't want to have that kind of team or fanbase. I want to build a respected franchise like the Spurs, Mavs, or Jazz.
Since the year 2000?
nor should we. this was not my point. i have been as critical as anybody of this team, particularly in this post-all star break stretch. i don't like uptempo styles of play because they almost always come at the expense of defense, and i've harped on it incessantly. such harping is not trolling, just like any critical outlook is not trolling. what i was speaking to is the fact that kingsfans.com has become polluted with player fans who insist on prizing their favorite players over the good of the team. we certainly had plenty of player fans trolling about during the kings' heydey, as well. there was a particular contingent of peja fans, for example, who could never get over the fact that chris webber was the kings' first option over their guy. they were wrong, of course, and the wins bore that out. but now the kings are perennial basement-dwellers, so its harder to fend off the trolls...
the attitude in general around here is rather surly. i just wish there was enough in the way of positives to help correct that attitude, but its not clear to me that looking up is an advisable course of action, at least not until the arena deal is absolutely set in stone, the maloofs sell to a more viable candidate for ownership, keith smart is replaced as head coach by a more viable candidate for head coach, and demarcus cousins and tyreke evans are inked to long term deals. those are foundational must-haves. you need an arena to play in. you need good ownership. you need good coaching. you need good gm'ing. and you need to lock up your star talent. the rest is more liable to fall into place when the structural elements are firing on all cylinders. but instead the kings are still trying to get the arena deal solidified, they're still owned by a bumbling family who has long fallen out of the graces of the team's fanbase, they're still giving out contracts to coaches not up to the challenge, they're still trying to fill in major gaps in the roster, and the futures of cousins and evans in sacramento are still hardly a certainty, no matter what their individual PR campaigns yield. frankly, it sucks, and you're right, we shouldn't be complacent. but kingsfans.com doesn't have to be unpleasant in its fervor...
This can easily apply to Kings fans who are not members of Kingsfans.com. I remember back in the day when callers used to chime in on the radio during Grant's shows and share their excitement of the team's play and direction, and now we have to resort to listening to two people argue about some stupid statement...
For those of you who are questioning me as a potential "troll", that is not my intention. As I said in my introductory post, I have heard many good things from members past and present who are friends of mine, and I thought I'd join in on the fun, as I am as huge of a Kings fan as you will ever meet. I bleed purple and black. I have been told by family and friends that I know more about the Kings, pay more attention to the Kings, than I do to my own life. I want to see this team win. Seeing them rack up the numbers in the loss column is no fun. I hope, even during these tough times, I can establish some good friendships with some of you on this board, friendships that result in personal meetings for a Kings game in Sacramento, or a Summer League game in Vegas (where I currently live). Or, hell, even if some of you are coming through Vegas, doing so in a non-Kings related environment.
Its not always unpleasant... just when were getting our *** kicked by crap teams... Lol.Word.
Don't worry about being labelled a troll. The moderators here have a pretty good nose for the creatures who live under the bridges.
As far as Vegas goes, you might want to chat with CruzDude and bajaden and some others. Theu generally make a trek to LV to watch summer league. I think Cruz already has a thread going about it.
Jimmer. Everything he does is so weak. I have a hard time liking that sort of player.
I feel like I have to say this every time he does something like this ..
But that play by Thornton, when he got blocked but jumped up, took it from the defender and went up strong to the hoop .. those are the plays that make him not 'just another gunner'. Let me know when Kevin Martin does that.
Come on. Give the kid a chance. He wants to do his best; he wants to fit in and play well.
It hurts my heart sometimes to see some of our comments about our own players (with the eternal exception of Kenny Thomas). It's not Jimmer's fault he is the object of so many rabid fans. From what I've heard from people who've met him at various Kings functions, he's not a bad guy.
Really? REALLY? May I ask why you felt the need to bring Kev into the mix?

Yes, and as long as we get the ball into TWill's hands and let him direct the offense, we should be fine. WTF??????? Has the entire world gone totally mad?
It is frustrating watching this team play at times. I understand we are young, but sometimes I feel like we are fully capable of playing at such a high level, but we have a couple of guys on the team who like to prevent that from happening.
IMO, we are 1 good scoring machine away from being a playoff team, that's all. We need an extra body who can come in and score points, and do so in bunches.
Overall, I am happy with the direction of the team, but would like to see Petrie pull off some moves to take us over the little hump we seem to be struggling with at the moment...

I will say this is a good lineup for Jimmer. I'd prefer him to play with Evans and Twill as much as possible, and certainly more than with Thomas and Thornton.
