I think he still is, his numbers are still pretty good. His reb% is higher than DMC's. I also think that if we are trying to get him with Terry (even if I believe we will end up with Jack and Terry will be a Cav) is because we have another trade coming up. It doesn't make sense to have DMC, JT, Landry, Gray, Acy and Evans all together. It could be a sign we are moving someone else.
 

All this "press" about possible trades in the works is a refreshing departure from the previous Kings GM. Whether it is more effective remains to be seen. But it is certainly more entertaining for NBA geeks like me:)

It appears Pete is leaving no stone unturned to land a veteran ball handler.
 
Not in love with that Brooklyn deal. I hope there is more to it. We are dealing our starting SG, despite all his struggles this season, for two older players who can barely find the court.

I'd like to see PDA hold off on that one till the last minute. Seems like a deal that won't go away, and certainly the bare minimum we can get for MT.

Or get them to throw us a bone with Marcus Teague.
 
One interesting thing about this trade deadline is how all the rumors seem to be about the same players over and over again. Its as if there are about 25 guys out there total who can be traded, and they are all going to be traded for each other or not at all. Hence we trade Thornton for Terry, and right there Cleveland loses both the rumored players it was looking at for Jack.

As for Evans...well he's not a good starter either,and he has no jumper to help Cousins with. but he is EXACTLY the sort of thug I've repeatedly said you want to pair with a dominant center. He's that guy that takes care of all the provocations, payback, and protection that you don't want your franchise big having to worry about.

According to this, both Evans and terry are expiring, but that doesn't sound right to me.

"Terry and Evans are set to earn a combined $7.4 million this year, meaning the trade would save the Nets over $3 million in luxury tax, while also opening up another roster spot. The contracts for both Terry and Evans expire after the season, making neither too much of a financial burden for the Kings."

According to hoops hype, neither is expiring. And they aren't making 7.4. More like 6.9. Next year it rises to 7.2. Sbnation is way off here. I can't fancy up the math to make Brooklyn save any money. Either way, we save they don't.

They both end after next season, the same length as MT's deal, which is why it isn't very exciting. We'd be getting the lesser talents, the older players, and losing a roster spot for the HOPE that breaking down one big contract into two would make them more moveable later.

AND we lose that pouty face from our roster...I think that's worth a lot.

Any chance one of the two smaller contracts could be part of another deal before the deadline?
 
Jason Terry...that won't help with creating a defensive identity. Another short guy ... Brilliant

Another short guy who is 1) old, 2) done, 3) didn't play defense even when he was young, and 4) is old.

Did I mention, he was old?

Now the Kings just need to trade for Nerlens Noel and we can have the entire cast of that Reebok commercial on the same team.

If you were to trade each of them individually, sure, although I'm not sure what the market would be, there. You can't package Terry and Jimmer and bring back a player, though.

Totally agreed. He may be an offensive liability, but I'd love him next to Cuz for about 20 minutes a game
or so

Obviously a starting power forward is needed, but im not sure when, or where, we'll find
one of those.

Evans is a great rebounder, arguably the best "pure" rebounder in the league: Kevin Collabro gave him the nickname "The Collector" his rookie season (that was back when Chris Kaman was still at Central Michigan, so keep your bad puns to yourself). The problem with Evans is that he's kind of like the Rajon Rondo of rebounding. What I mean by that is, Rondo has developed a reputation of being so stat/assist-conscious, that he's been thought to willfully break the offense, and even pass up open layups to try and force an assist out. Well, Evans is the same way with rebounding: he's been known to blow coverage, and ignore his defensive assignment in the interest of chasing down a rebound.

He's also not a particularly good defender. He's not even as good a man defender as Thompson is, is undersized (probably closer to 6'6" than his "program height" of 6'8"), is no threat to protect the rim and, as has been previously alluded to, is old and slow. He would, however, fill one need that we have: he's a goon. He's a guy that would be happy to goon it up, and take the heat off Cousins. Not sure I'd give a guy like that twenty minutes a game, and absolutely wouldn't start him, but he's definitely a guy whom, whenever Cousins is about to hit the red line, you could have Malone bring Evans in, have Evans goon it up, and get the technical/flagrant that Cousins would probably have ended up getting, if he'd been allowed to stay on the court while p***ed.

I dont doubt that the Cavaliers made that call, but i dont see anything coming out of that
 
Yea, Amico MIGHT be the worst 'source' out there, but something is clearly going on between SAC and CLE.

Also, Deng can't be dealt with anyone else, but the Kings could offer something like Thornton and Williams, Thompson and Williams, Thompson and Outlaw, etc .. it's mostly just garbage though, unless they do something nutty and trade away Gay for Deng just to dump the capspace and go after someone in free agency.

I'd be quite excited if all these talks eventually led to Varejao.
 
I could understand Cleveland thinking Deng might bolt and wanting to swap him for Gay, who would be likely to stay unless he, too, opts out. Do we do that deal, though? Deng's a much better defender, but a little over a year older, and a free agent this summer.
 
With Tony Allen getting moved around (or at the very least all over a lot of these rumors) I'm a bit surprised the Kings aren't in on that one. We have two SG's who don't defend ... Allen would seem like the right kind of defensive role player fit.

Thornton, per reports, is all but gone for Terry. That moves McLemore into the starting five with Terry playing backup minutes at the one and two and McCallum getting 10 minutes or so (assuming Fredette gets moved as well.)

Tony Allen makes a lot of sense if IT is starting point guard for the next several years. I personally don't see that happening, meaning we would need a more well-rounded two.
