Jimmer hosting rookie all star game:

bajaden

Hall of Famer
I don't have all the details yet, but on Sept. 21st and 22nd, Fredette will be hosting two all star games featuring other NBA rookies. So far the only names available are Fredette, Honeycutt, Thomas, and Kemba Walker. I'm sure the rest of the list will be available later. The first game will be broadcast on radio only, but the second game will be on BYUTV, which is part of the Fox and Comcast sports package.

That's great to hear. Hopefully he can recruit a good amount of rookies so we can watch our rookies in action even if it's just exhibition games.

Not sure how can you have a rookie "All Star game" before anybody has played a game? I assume this just means as many of the incoming rooks together as possible. Bit of a replacement for the lost summer league. Also wonder if was there enough time before the lockout for these guys to all sign their contracts? Because if there wasn't, playing in anything could be a bit of a risk. especially for guys picked after the lottery, you don't want ot suddenly blow out your knee sans contract and the team that drafted you suddenly rethink things.

Details, details, details.

Man, I hate this freaking lockout!!! I'm glad guys are playing but I wish there was something more than just a bunch of scrimmages.

If memory serves, which is wishful thinking on my part, the draftee's can't sign until a new agreement is in place. I thought calling it a rookie all star game was a bit of a reach as well, but it probably sounds better from an advertizing point of view. If I were playing in that game, I'd have a big insurance policy sitting on my desk.

As annoying as the lockout is, you have to remember that we havent lost anything yet aside from the Vegas Summer league.

It seems like everyone has decided the season wont start on time and we'll miss half a season at minimum. I'll believe that when I see it. I still think come mid-late september something will be about done.

I have zero faith that we'll have a season this year. The NBA system is too flawed. And I think fans seem fed up. You can just tell by how many NFL fans were riled up during the lockout. Even people I'd see throughout my day would always be talking football and how they'll go crazy without football. I think a lot of basketball fans are fed up with the system and don't really care. Plus you take into account other leagues the players can play in and the sense of urgency just isn't there. They're hardly even meeting at this point too. What a mess.

Here's an update on those players that have either commited, or have been invited to play in the two games being hosted by Fredette and BYU.

Jimmer Fredette
Isaiah Thomas
Tyler Honeycutt
Kemba Walker
Nolan Smith
Charles Jenkins
Derrick Williams
Enes Kanter
Alec Burks
Kawhi Leonard
Kyrie Irving

According to an article in Yahoo sports, only about half are commited, so Jimmer has his work cut out for him to fill the rosters. JGar has that article posted in the Kings News fourm by the way, and its worth the read. In the article Jimmer states that he has been in contact with both Tyreke and DeMarcus, and that both have been very surportive.

I think you have to take into consideration how different the two lockouts are to one another. Most observers look at how far apart the players and owners are from one another in the NBA and have already resigned to the fact that the season won't start on time. OTOH, most NFL fans looked at their lockout as 2 groups of people (both making tons of money) and so NO reason for it not to be resoved in time for the season.

I guess what I am trying to say is that we all know that the NBA system is broken, but the NFL was doing just fine and only neede a few minor revisions.

I think the fact that the system is 'broken' works in favor of the lockout not killing the season. The players will cave eventually and I highly doubt we will miss much time, if any.

And I think all of these summer league games are good for the owners aswell. I think it is starting to mess with the players state of mind...

If I'm Demarcus Cousins, and every week I see another mixtape of some summer league game I'm playing in ( where he will make little to no money ) .. at some point doesnt he say "well, I'm playing for free right now, a 5% ( or whatever it is ) paycut doesnt seem so bad now that I am still playing ball, people are watching, and I'm not making anything"

It might sound dumb, but there is something to it. And once we start getting real close to the season... I cant even imagine the pressure from the players perspective. The Owners can live without a season, they have other businesses (unless your the Maloofs) ...most of the players cannot.

I just dont see how they dont cave at some point.

Well, no one's missing a pay check for a few more months in the NBA. When they stop coming, it might up the urgency a little. Really sucks for the rookies, though.

Evans, the vice president of the players union said today that the players are united and willing to miss the entire season if they have to. Its my opinion that its mostly bluster. Lets apply a little logic here. If there is no season, D. Wade stands to lose around 15 million dollars in salary. Lets say that the players actually end up getting most of what they want. Lets say they manage to keep the same salary structure in place. And that would be the best case scenario for the players. Wade will never recoup that 15 million dollars. Its gone! Now add in that he just lost a year of his playing career.

How will Garnett feel about losing an entire year of his career, when he's already near the very end of his career. Is Kobe willing to give up an entire year of his career. There are some things more important than money to some of these players. What Evans had to say just didn't make any sense. You never, ever get back the money you lose while on strike. Unless you can make retroactive a part of the deal. Yeah, I really think thats going to happen. Sometimes its best to keep all this behind the closed doors of the meetings. That way you never have to eat crow.

Baja, how long do you think this lockout lasts? It seems so grim (especially in comparison to the football lockout). I really hope we can at least have half a season.

Its a damm good question, and I wish I had a crystal ball to look at and give you an answer. I do think they'll come to an agreement. The question is when. The longer it goes on, the less chance of an early agreement. Its difficult for the players union to get any sympathy right now, when the average salary is a little over 5 mil a year, and 14 million people are out of work with many losing their homes. No right or wrong here, just very bad timing..

I don't think its a good move to publicly accuse the commish of lying. It doesn't create the proper atmosphere for new talks, and also discourages all the fans across the country that are hoping cooler heads prevail. The problem with these type of talks, is that no one wants to be the first to make the big move. Each side has a bottom line, but getting there is like pulling teeth.

I've thought from the beginning that Stern and company don't want to ruin a good thing. Especially after having one of their best seasons ever. So my gut tells me something will happen. I'm sure the last thing the Maloof's want, is to lose this season. They've spent a lot of money on advertising, and they need all the good PR they can get to help with the arena. So my long winded answer is, I don't know! But as soon as I have a vision in the night, I'll post it here.

Thanks for the reply Baja! I really wasn't looking for a specific answer. I was just wondering what your opinions/thoughts were about the lockout timeline. As I said before, I really hope we at least have half a season. I'm excited (like others are on this website) to see what the team can do this year.

Nonetheless, I usually look for specific answers about the lockout with my magic 8-ball. For example, I asked "is the lockout frustrating to fans?" This is the answer I got . . . .

The Jimmer rookie games will be coached by Coach Rose of BYU and Coach Fisher of San Diego State, as reported in the San Diego Union Tribune recently. There will be a pool of players and each coach will "draft" one player at a time to make up the teams. This would be like the old Long Beach summer league and their made-up teams, sort of indoor versions of street ball, only with much better players.

Update on the Jimmer's All Stars event in Utah.

They consolidated the event into one game rather than two. The game will be held at the Marriot Center on the BYU campus and will be broadcast live on BYUTV. If you don't have BYUTV, I believe you can stream it live on the BYUTV.com website.

Final participants are:
1st Round Picks
Bismack Biyombo
Kenneth Faried
Tobias Harris
Chris Singleton
Kawai Leonard
Kemba Walker
Nolan Smith
Jimmer Fredette

Second Round Picks
Tyler Honeycut
Isaiah Thomas
Charles Jenkins
Malcolm Lee
Vernon Macklin

Undrafted
Chris Wright
Jackson Emery

There are 16 players participating, so I'm not sure who the other player is.

Damn how tall is his girl?? Looks like she's not even close to pushing 5'!!! Jimmer likes gymnasts I guess.

Just a reminder. Jimmer's all star game with rookies is at 6 PM pacific time on thursday on channel 374 Direct TV. Thats the BYU channel. All three of our draft picks are playing in the game. Enjoy!

The teams were "drafted" on Saturday, and these are the rosters for the event.

Dave Rose's team: Jimmer, Kenneth Faried, Chris Singleton, Nolan Smith, Tyler Honeycutt, Jackson Emery, Chris Wright, Charles Jenkins.

Steve Fisher's team: Kawhi Leonard, Kemba Walker, Bismack Biyombo, Tobias Harris, Malcolm Lee, Vernon Macklin, Isaiah Thomas, Xavier Silas.

I'm sure there will be. I don't think were allowed to mention those websites on this fourm, but if you need info, PM me....

If they are on a legit site with a legit stream they are... aren't they? What's the big deal if you could google it just the same?

Yes. Legit streaming sites are OK to share here. We don't even want PMs about the others.
