Yah.. I made the Hilton Armstrong vs. Thabeet comparison somewhere.. Hilton in the year he was to go to the draft had like 17ppg 11rpg and 4.5bpg against crappy competition, and didn't do so well against NBA fringe prospects. Turns out Hilton was a fringe NBA prospect as well..

I wish Thabeet would give me something that I can cling to, but he lays an egg almost everytime he faces someone that can ball.

It's not that Blair is faster than he is either. Blair looks to be about 275-280, and he's obviously way shorter.. Maybe about 6'7?.. He's a big guy and is just overpowering Thabeet.

This is my thoughts on Thabeet as well. Well put.

Blair was extraordinary this game -- could see this coming actually. the last career 20-20 game he had? Against Notre Dame and Harangody a couple of weeks back. One of those ultra tough guy grudge/prove it to you sorts of players who gets fired up against big opponents and muscles them to death. Too short to defend in the NBA, but there is some Maxiel potential there.

Of course this opens up all the old questions about Thabeet and short power players, but seriously, the way Blair played tonight who exactly was going to stop him? Nobody in the college game that's for sure. The bigger thing is that the lock and lob offensive game that has made Thabeet effective offensively has no chance of working on a player that strong. The appropriate counter to a stubby power guy like that is either a facing jumper or a jumphook over him. Since Thabeet does no really have either, they would have been better off just using him up high to set screens. Actually a poor job of coaching by Calhoun playing right to Blair's strengths and keeping him in close to the glass where he could dominate. Be interesting to see what happens in the rematch in a month or so.

What you're really missing is the fact that Thabeet is a one-way player. In fact, he's less than a one-way player: he's a shot blocker who can't guard opposing centers with some talent. It's very helpful for a Blair or a Monroe to know that they don't have to worry much about Thabeet on offense. That's a big advantage. They can just go out there and take it to him with impunity, without having to worry at all about Thabeet on offense. I really like Blair, but he has defensive weaknesses. But who cares if he's playing Thabeet? He won't get those weaknesses exposed and he can have fun knocking down the giant all night long and getting 20+ rebounds.

Hasheem Thabeet is too inconsistent even at a college level to be drafted #1. Didn't he have 5 pts (1-5 FG) and 3 rebs or something yesterday?
