[Game] Grizz @ Kings Game Thread 12/29/10

Incredible to be at the game tonight. ARCO was rocking well before the fireworks, the DE-FENSE chan was spirited for the last six minutes of the fourth, easy. Almost like old times.

Important safety tip: do not jump too much for joy in the bleachers, and if you do, do it straight up. I very nearly came down on the seat in front of me, just pulled my feet back in time.

Oh yeah, old Arco's cramped quarters are not conducive to over the top celebrating/acting out, as I've found out before as well. And going for garlic fries at halftime takes at least as much skill as putting up perfect scores on the balance beam at the Olympics. Only I'd rather have garlic fries and a beer over that gold plated crap any day of the week. :D

pretty unbelievable shot. too bad it doesn't inspire any real optimism from me but still a fun ending for one night.

We've been right there for weeks. That's the encouraging part. With even just average 4th quarter play we'd be .500 since mid December. This win was really more just a culmination of that -- knocking, knocking, knocking, and finally quit running away when the knob started to turn and just kicked the door in. It may not given the upcoming schedule, but it has significant corner turning potential as long as everybody's health holds out.

Question:

Could Donte have been called for a technical for running on the court before the ball went through the hoop? Even though the clock was at 0:00, the play was still not over.

I was pondering that too. Fortunately since we won by two it wouldn't matter anyway. ;)

Yea, didn't make me more optimistic either, but I'll take any win at this point. And we got an entertaining youtube clip out of it, so this was a good night.

My thoughts exactly. Does it change how I feel about the season, or whats to come? No...but I love it, and these guys NEEDED this. Great to see the team rejoicing for once.

Still feels great this morning!
Ditto. My son and I were jumping and screaming in the family room, in joy and disbelief. Probably scared the cr*p out of the pets, LOL.

Does this suddenly mean the team is going to be winning a lot more or some "corner has been turned?" Maybe or maybe not. But for a night and maybe a day or two, it is pure joy for me, as a Kings fan.

I believe that if one is always pondering the "but what's going to happen next and what does this mean for the future," then you miss out on the wonderfulness and joy of the moment that actually happened. I plan on enjoying that moment as much as I can. At least until the next game. I am so happy for the guys on the team.

Happy New Year Kings fans! :D

This has been a very disappointing and frustrating season for the Kings, and especially for Tyreke, but this shot gives me hope for the future. Kings fan forever. Go Kings!

This is why you watch sports. This is why I will always be a fan of the Kings. The highest highs are always worth the lowest lows. I hope that made sense.

I understand that this was a one night thing, I get that. But last night ( and this morning ) made me so much more happy and excited than any level of frustration I have ever had for this team, and I have had alot. Thank you for tonight. If this season is a complete failure, at least I have one moment.

Props to DMC too. He had the best game of his career thus far. I just want to the Kings to win 25+ games this year. Going past 25 would be an improvement, well, for me anyway. So now that we have 6 wins, do you guys think we can win 20 more with 53 games remaining for the season? I hope so but I doubt it.

Doesn't seem very likely with the way the schedule plays out. To be perfectly honest I don't want them to win much more than 20 because I'm already thinking top 4 or 5 pick. Winning 26 or 27 could drop them down to picking 7th or 8th or so. I'd be happy if they just show some improvement and get a few wins against quality teams before the season is over.

.

And last night was also why you never turn off a game early. The past few seasons will make success in the future that much sweeter for all of us who stuck around through thick and thin.

Man PLEASE someone give me a pic or a video of our bench after Cisco missed that 3 in the end when Boogie got fouled.. I was laughing SO HARD :D:D:D

And can Donte see the future or smth? he jumped up and down celebrating before the ball went in! :D

And how the hell wasn't Mayo called for the travel!?!?! if Reke shot wouldn't get in i'd be sooooo pissed! lucky it did!

Mayo took 3 steps - no travel that I saw.

From the look of the stands, and the lack of traffic on this site, I'd guesstimate that the number of people who actually watched this game was way down from normal.

Fun fun game to watch - many people missed out.

I really like watching DMC play, and root for him more than any other King -
And I'll gladly say that within 3 years, DMC should be a Top-3 center in the league.
He looks THAT promising (at times).

If they had won on the defense at the end preventing the Griz from taking the lead then ya it would seem that way. But this win was all luck on a half court buzzer beater. Exciting for the moment yes, but they still didnt get a stop when they needed it.

I don't think that's really the relevant thing here really -- and Mayo's shot was almost as miraculous as Reke's anyway. But the point isn't how they won, its that they DID win. Well actualy, it is how they won too. The very drama of it makes it one of those things that can inspire in a way a simple 13pt win might not. Confidence, emotion, momentum can all turn on one great play in a game, and its the same way in a season. Its not about them going out and duplicating this same effort game to game, its about them getting the monkey off their backs so they can go out and start playing again.

The same way that Griffin wasn't called for a foul for holding on to Cousins left arm and pulling him backwards on the final play of the Clipper game.

Glad to see I wasn't the only one who noticed that. I thought it was pretty blatant - Cousins had good position and an easy putback for the win.

I was just rewatching the last quarter. There really was a priceless moment in the last minute when a timeout was called. Westphal is talking to his guys, and then they are about to go off the floor. But Cousins decides he's going to talk to his guys too. So he grabs Beno and Garcia with one arm around each one of them, and they aren't going anywhere with Cousins' mitts on them. Then he sees Tyreke, and he grabs his jersey, so now he's talking to the three of them. Then Tyreke figures Cousins has had his say, so he's starting to walk into the game. Cousins grabs him again.:D And of course Tyreke isn't going anywhere with Cousins' mitts on him. So now he's got Beno and Garcia and Tyreke and he let's them know what the deal is. Finally, he let's them go. They may now enter the game.:D

What a crack up.:D Cousins may be up, down and all around, but nobody can say he's boring.

The Kings legitimately deserved to win this game. We played good defense on the last possession and the Griz tried to steal it with a prayer from O.J.- the rightful owners took it back.

Don't think this has been posted on this board yet. I found this one over at realgm.

The fan's perspective of the shot.

Edit: Why is this not letting me embed?

you don't embed it as a link -- there is a little video icon above the text box when you switch over to "Advanced" mode. Click on that, paste your link into the address box that pops up, and it embeds itself. Alternately you could manually type in [videa]your.videoaddress.com[/videa] with "video" in place of videa (just did not want the software to automatically create a box there for me).
