Draft position thread

Kings looking like they will recieve the #1-3 pick in the 2009 draft.

My top 3 would be:
1. Blake Griffen
2. Thabeet
3. Rubio (if enters)

These are the only 3 players I want the Kings to have as their top 3-4 pick. If we cant get any one of them, I say trade the pick.
 
Randolph is now back for the Clips, and they've won 2 in a row. They shouldn't be a problem anymore. They blew out Atlanta tonight, and Memphis won with only 78pts

Yeah, Clips may soon be out of the running, I sure hope so. But I don't think Memphis would have wost against Toronto without Bosh being out injured, so luck probably helped us out there. And Washington will remain a serious competitor, since Arenas seems to be taking the year off.

Yeah, if Arenas would just get off his lazy ***, we could actually achieve something this year, in a backwards upside down topsy turvy sort of way.

As long as we're here we might as well nab the worst spot, but I'll settle for anything in the Bottom 3. So I'm rooting for teams to clear our immediatre area. Minnesota left the neighborhood, Golden State with Ellis looks poised to do so, and it would be a real gift if Memphis did, because of the remaining squads they and the Thunder are the two playing all kids all the time, and hence most dangerous. Of course this could just be Memphis getting the new coach bump before they settle back into sucking, but in this race to the bottom, even if its false momentum, if it just gets them out to 16 wins or so before they go back to winning 2 oout of every 10 it could be enough to hold us off through the end.
 
We don't need to worry about washington geting the #1 pick, they don't need a pg. The only player I am excited about is rubio, and he will be there at #2 if washington picks #1. I have watched numerous games with rubio, and he is the real deal. Washington won't draft a pg, and neither will the clippers(davis), or the thunder(westbrook). If we continue to play the way we have been playing, and throw the young guys out there, we can bank on getting a top 3 pick- and rubio.:)
 
Am I the only one who just can't get excited about this draft?! There just doesn't seem to be a genuine franchise player in this draft pool. Not even a perennial all-star.

Is there anyone in this draft that is a franchise player?

Chances are Rubio won't be entering this years draft.

Carolija, there doesn't seem to be any sure-fire star, but this isn't the first year that's happened. A star always comes out of every draft, it is just about picking correctly. It is hard to predict who it will be, but if we get lucky, we can still get that cornerstone. I am not too fussed either way, as long as we get a good player. We'll be back here next year without a doubt so I would be fine with nabbing Wall or Rubio then.
 
Yep, there will be All Stars and maybe a HOFer or two in this draft, it's just not clear who they are. If you look over draft history, there are always some. This list is of All Stars, HOFers (and a few others) from each year since '86, I've bolded one or more of the stronger ones from each year since some of the others were so-so, and I don't want to water my point down. 1986 and 2000 were considered the two worst draft years in recent times, so I made sure and included both.

I'm listing 20 years worth, I think there's only one year (2000) where the best guy available in the draft would be as weak as, e.g., Michael Redd or Hedo Turkoglu. Not a terrible situation unless we blow our picks.

We've finally reached rock bottom. See, that wasn't so hard after all. I knew deep down that we were the worst team in the league. And now the standings have finally sorted themselves out. Although I am now actively praying for us to lose the lottery because I don't like Blake Griffin and Rubio probably isn't entering anyway. Well, I suppose we could always trade the #1 pick, but does anyone realistically see Geoff doing that?

Just because Griffin is the consensus #1 pick doesn't mean Petrie is going to draft him. I'd like us to get #1, then probably trade down a little ways plus grab a future pick or something. You should never hope for a worse draft pick
 
We are the worst, no ifs ands or buts. Yeah! have faith, Kingz fanz, tis darkest before the dawn!!!!

Yet truth be told the other dregs of the league have injuries, we are healthy. We have no excuse. Thus lottery-wise every loss is a 'win' now til game 82. If we do not get #1 we should be top 3 or so, so that'll get us Thabeet or Teague or Griffin, or someone else of whom I am presently unaware.

I am not a college basketball guru, but Griffin, Teague, and Hasheem Thabeet can all ball and bring it, this much I know, and give the die-hards hope, and represent a serious upgrade at respective positions regardless how you slice it or dice it.

...unless you wouldn't trust your GM to make the right decision if it hit him in the face...

Alright I guess I don't really mean it, but recent history speaks for itself. If Geoff had drafted who I wanted him to draft the past 4 years I don't think we'd be looking at a #1 pick right now. Why would he make the right decision this time?
 
Man, I wish we could've been linning this well in some other draft because even though it would be great to have the no.1 pick, it just isn't the same with the weakness of this draft. It's so much like the 89 draft that it's scary. I'll be glad to see Chris there at the lottery though.
 
Yeah, there is an upside to having a bad draft, we'll probably be in the running for the top of next year's draft!! Woohoo, optimism!
 
We're on target for a 17-woss season, and from the looks of the schedule may not even wose that many. T'wolves have already wost 17. I don't think they'll be a threat.
 
I really don't have any fear that the Kings won't get the worst record in the league. Clippers, Wizards, and Thunder are all starting to play better. The Clippers and Wizards also had/have injuries. The Grizzlies have 14 wins and I don't think the Kings will catch up to them. That is pretty much all of the competition right there.
 
Memphis just picked up another big win without Rudy Gay against New Orleans, but Chris Paul and David West didnt play. Memphis outrebounded them 64-38
 
Mayo went off! 22 and 16? Here's your rookie of the year this year: Rose, Mayo, or Westbrook. It'll be one of those three. The easy money's on Rose, but my pick is Westbrook.

Anyway, it looks like the Clippers might have finally turned it around. Thornton and Gordon are studs. Randolph, Baron, and Camby might not have chemistry but they should win a fair number of games on talent alone. Well, if they manage to stay healthy. I was counting on Gilbert to bring some wins to Washington when he comes back, but if they're in full on tank mode already I don't see him making that big of an impact. (Besides, he's already expressed his thoughts on the subject and he wants them to tank it)

Actually, I'm not even watching our "competition" anymore. We've clearly distanced ourselves from the pack. My concern now is that the complete implosion in Houston gets bad enough that they miss the playoffs and we lose our pick. Though that could be a blessing in disguise if next years draft is significantly better. (Which reminds me -- For all the people that predicted Artest would destroy Houston's lockerroom morale -- I'll finally admit it. You were right. I was wrong. Artest is either a bigger problem than I was willing to admit or he's just got a black cloud following him wherever he goes.)
 
I think OKC is better than that. It's tough to say what trades are going to go down, but this is more or less what I expect.

1. Sacramento (no joke)
2. Washington
3. Memphis
4. LA Clippers (just barely ahead of these two...)
5. Minnesota
5. Toronto (call it a tie, I think both are slipping)

And then Oklahoma City at #7.
 
Good to see Memphis get another win. I'm worried about Washington. Honestly, I think Haywood would make just as much of a difference for them as Arenas, if not more. Anybody know when he is expected to come back?
