Draft position thread

Well, we survived what SHOULD have been a very close call, and the Clippers wose again! Against the Celtics, no less! :D WAY TO GO CLIPPERS!

1. Sac 12-47 .203
2./3. OKC/Was 13-44 .228
4. LAC 15-43 .259
5. Mem 15-42 .263

If we can somehow pull of a lin Friday it could really put us in a strong position down the stretch -- barring a ridiculous 2 game winning steak or some such, it could begin to just shape up as a three team race.

Wow, we are now officially 25 % points behind (or ahead depending on your outlook )

We could be under 200 by this time next week.

Anyone who has spent time watching the movies of the 1940s could pretty much have predicted the outcome of tonight's game... come on, all the pieces are there. The ragtag bunch of kids left to do the impossible with very little leadership and nothing more but heart and desire?

I can actually see Judy Garland and Mickey Rooney saying, "Come on, gang. Let's put on a show!"

It was adrenalin, it was what my grandmother used to call spunk, it was something that won't happen tomorrow night. We're going to win a few more games this season. It's almost inevitable. I can live with this one tonight.
Judy Garland and Mickey Who?

A big night coming up...

Chicago visits Washington, a Washington woss is not inconceivable.
OKC is playing in Dallas, so chalk up another lin for OKC.
Charlotte's playing in Oaktown, but neither of those teams are really competitive anymore.
Finally, the Kings are playing the Clippers. This is a very important game; a lin means that the Clippers will have essentially been eliminated as competitors, while a woss will throw us into a virtual 3-way tie. OKC and Washington fans must be happy tonight, knowing that either the Clippers or the Kings will wose...

There are 4 other nights this season which will be close to as scary as this one:
1) March 10, OKC visits Arco
2) March 15, Kings visit Washington
3) March 27, Memphis visits Arco
4) April 10, Kings visit LAC

Looking at LAC's schedule, at least another 2 wosses for them are likely this season, so we can fairly safely assume they'll hit 17 or above. Memphis likewise, so not very intimidating. OKC may only win 1-2, and Washington's schedule is even worse, there's only one weak team left that they'll be facing at home this season, and that's the Kings... they could end the season with a mere 13-14 wosses.

Kenny Natt, don't fail us now! It would suck to wind up, say, 14-68, lose a coin flip, get the #3 slot, lose in the lottery and end up with the #6 pick.

Why aren't there any emoticons for "nervous" around here?

Well, this is indeed an obvious trap game, but then again coming into the week I worried about TWO wosses in a row here. But we are tough.

Any word on Beno yet? Form what we have seen of Solomon so far he could go a long way to helping our cause. ;)

I think Beno is out 1-3 games.

Yeah I've watched Solomon on the Raptors. What you've seen is about as good as he gets.

Anyway, I knew Washington would win tonight for some reason, so that's great news. Losing to the Clippers tonight would be huge

The Clippers are so obviously forcing this woss onto us that I'm going to go ahead and post the new standings at the beginning of the 4th quarter. Bleh. The Clippers always do this to us, I hate them!!!

Welcome to the crowd of 13-win teams.

1. Sac 13-47 .217
2./3. OKC/Was 13-44 .228
4. The ^#%$@&! LAC 15-44 .254
5. Mem 15-42 .263

They're so damn conniving.

Actually Washington won today so they have 14 wins!

My bad, I took the stats off the nba,com site, which was uncharacteristically slow in updating tonight, and extrapolated Sac & LAC records. Spaced out on the Washington woss. The corrected stats follow.

1. Sac 13-47 .217
2. OKC 13-45 .224
3. Was 14-44 .241
4. LAC 15-44 .254

OKC scares me.

If they shut down Durant for the rest of the year, they wont win another game ..

Who wins the tie breaker if neither team wins for the rest of the year .. coin flip?

I think it goes to how they did against their own division ... or perhaps how they did against each other with consideration to total points scored or some silly thing.

Then again, it might be the coin flip - or rock, paper, scissors, lizard, Spock.

:p

In the event that teams finish with the same record, each tied team receives the average of the total number of combinations for the positions that they occupy. In 2007, the Minnesota Timberwolves and the Portland Trail Blazers tied for the sixth worst record. The average of the 6th and 7th positions in the lottery was taken, resulting in each team getting 53 combinations (the average of 63 and 43). Should the average number not be an integer, a coin flip is then used to determine which team or teams receive the extra combination(s). The result of the coin flip is also used to determine who receives the earlier pick in the event that neither of the tied teams wins one of the first three picks via the lottery.

Thanks, nbrans...

but I think I'd rather see them play "rock, paper, scissors, lizard, Spock"...

;)

OKC is fine with the #1 because you know they are taking Griffin.. If Rubio enters we could slip to #2 and still get who we wanted to.

But yah.... If OKC shuts down Durant then they wont win another game. I have a feeling we might finish #2 or #3.

Durant is only listed as day-to-day. And we don't know for sure if Petrie wants Rubio yet. Though I hope he does

The coin flip still applies to the second round, however.

Okay, on to tonight's schedule...

OKC at Memphis - could be an interesting game if Durant's able to play, he's listed as day to day.
Washington at Milwaukee - chalk up another lin for the Wizards.
Charlotte at LAC - Who knows whether the Clippers will feel like playing tonight?
Sac at Utah - Another lin for us!

Tomorrow: no important games.

Monday: Dallas at OKC, SAS at Clippers. Don't get your hopes up.

A promising night so far. Washington got their inevitable lin over Milwaukee, but OKC wost to Memphis, and we got our expected lin over Utah. The Clippers currently lead Charlotte by 10, shortly before the half, so keep your fingers crossed!

GO CLIPPERS! Wose like the dogs you are!

The final tally for the weekend...

1. Sac 13-48 .213
2./3. OKC/Was 14-45 .237
4. LAC 15-45 .250
5. Mem 15-43 .259

OKC and LAC due to pick up one more lin each on Monday.

OKC with a shocking woss vs Dallas!

1. Sac 13-48 .213
2. Was 14-46 .233
3./4.* OKC/LAC 15-45 .250
5. Mem 15-43 .259

*This will change slightly in a few hours, after LAC lin over the SAS and squeak into sole possession of 3rd place.
