Carl Landry Out 3-4 Months

Landry's injury will put any trade involving the power forwards on the backburner. The chances of making a deal by the January trade deadline just went down.
Nobody would trade for Landry and that kind of a contract. He'll be traded as an expiring in his final year. This injury doesn't affect his trade value for the upcoming season.

I doubt Kingster was referring to Landry in terms of who would/might be traded.

I still think they trade either Jimmer/Thornton, or maybe both to bring in a shotblocker. How can they not I tell ya??!! How??!

Obviously we had a logjam of big men, but it wasn't an entirely glorious beaver logjam, moreso like a half-assed raccoon trying to cross the river logjam, but I digress.

Aside from Cousins, we have Thompson, Patterson and Chuck, but still absolutely nobody who will devour and eat layups for breakfast.
I want a gobble machine down there god dammit!

We didn't sign Landry in order to trade him. Where does this idea come form?
At every opportunity, the Landry haters come out of the woodwork! I didn't like the signing myself, but I'm not obsessed with trading him when the new Kingsmakers haven't even had a chance to see if their puzzle pieces fit together.

Well you're in luck, because at this rate we'll never see the puzzle pieces fit together! So the FO will get away with us not knowing if the Landry signing was a good one, given the current roster.

I didn't think so either.
With the signing of Landry, it became clear that there would be a logjam at the 4. Since Landry wasn't brought in (at his current contract, no less) to be used as trade bait, it was clear that someone else was probably going to go. Who? Not sure. Discussion for another time. However, now WITH the Landry injury, that "logjam" isn't so apparent anymore, so players aren't as expendable as they probably would have been. Not to say that they aren't available for the right price, but that we don't have the same flexibility given the situation.

landry's injury will likely hurt the kings' competitive chances in the short term, but i'm not sure it effects their roster flexibility or bargaining position as a trade partner this season. to repeat what's already been said, the kings likely didn't acquire carl landry with designs to move him anytime soon. i did not agree with the signing of carl landry at the current length of his contract, and i remain an opponent of the signing, in general, but he probably wasn't going anywhere via trade, at least not this season...

that said, if landry is out a full four months, well then that conveniently schedules his return for right around the trade deadline. meanwhile, either jason thompson or patrick patterson will have been "showcased" for potential trades, particularly without landry available to eat into their minutes/production. most mid-season deals don't occur until just before the deadline, anyway, so should the kings decide to move either thompson or patterson at the trade deadline (or even hayes, perhaps in a larger package with thornton, etc.), they'd likely already have landry back in the lineup, or his services would be returning to the team shortly...

again, i think this injury does more to hurt the kings' competitive chances, as well as provide a chemistry/cohesion setback, than it hurts their trade position. landry will have considerable rust to shake off by the time he's fit to hit the basketball court again, but i'm not holding out hope for a playoff push in the second half of the season, so it wouldn't bother me if the kings moved one of thompson/patterson/hayes at the deadline, in spite of landry's limitations upon returning from injury...

This is bad news for Carl Landry, but it's probably a lucky break for the Kings. Why? Because this isn't meant to be a competitive season, it's meant to be a season where the new front office allows Coach Malone to establish his system and then decides on which players should be retained long-term. As I said all summer, that's not the direction I would have gone if I were in charge but I understand that it's the direction the new front office wanted to take, and objectively speaking, it's probably the safest course of action right now. You don't want to lock up your salary cap for the next 4 years until you really know what you have.

And on that note, I wouldn't be surprised if most of this current roster is gone in 2 years. Obviously Cousins and McLemore are staying. Thompson has 4 more years but he's got to prove that he fits with Cousins and Coach Malone before he's penciled in as part of the long-term plan. That's just the life of an NBA journeyman player. A new regime means proving yourself all over again. Jimmer, Vasquez, Patterson, and IT are all auditioning for contracts. Thornton, Salmons, Outlaw, and Hayes are holdovers from the old regime with 2 years left on their deals (trade bait in other words).

So while Landry and Mbah a Moute were obviously brought in for a reason, we already know who those guys are. If they're not able to play much this season for injury reasons it means more playing time for guys that have something to prove and possibly results in better draft position as well. In a rebuilding type of year, that's win-win for the franchise. Again, it sucks for Carl though.

What a great signing.... Carl was a iron man since he has entered the league, I don't recall him missing significant time like this in his playing days with Houston, NO or GS.
