Who will win game 5?

I say Boston in 6. The Laker fans should be very worried. The Lakers squandered a 19 pt lead in the 1st qtr. Then they squandered a 14 pt lead in the 4th. They may pull this out, but if they were near as hungry as Boston, they would have had a blowout. :p

GO CELTICS!!

Sure he touched the ball. But he also touched just about everything within a 5 foot radius of it as well. I liked how none of the announcers, not even the completely outspoken Van Gundy, even said a word about it.

wow Dick Bavetta taking over 5 on pierce 5 on garnett

Off the ball ( I think both, at least one) , almost certainly trivial fouls, I'd bet.
Unfortunately they weren't shown.

Why didn't they call Kobe's "steal?"

I was wondering if the refs were going to try and stretch this one out again.

The new Donaghy allegations have made me very cynical about NBA officiating.

KG had three fouls in the first half, some of them quite trivial.

I didn't have too much respect for kg going into tonight but wow did my respect for him just dropeven more after this ridiculous effort and performance!!! Wow I mean if I'm an NBA commentator I will call him out

I feel bad for pierce. He's a warrior and showed it. Played all game but a kg choke job a really bad call on that Kobe steal or no call for that matter sends this series back to bean town. What a shame

Mike Breem said at the end of the game, "it could have been called a foul."
However, the fact that it wasn't doesn't make it a giant conspiracy. If anything, the completely overused and almost bogus conspiracy charge might as well be leveled for allowing the Celtics and especially Pierce to go to the line a zillion times in game 5.

Ray Allen's daughter was rushed to an LA hospital during the game and was diagnosed with diabetes. That's really sad news.

Where did you hear this?

They said it during my local ABC 7 after the game show and right before it went to the press conference on ESPN with Doc Rivers, Rivers said something along the lines that it's a personal issue and he doesn't want to talk about it. The question wasn't shown but it's safe to assume that's what he was asked.

Thanks, xrzn. My prayers and best wishes to her.

no doubt. If yall believe the NBA wanted the Kings-Lakers to go 7 in 02 how do you think they feel about this game 7 setup:

KG, Pierce, and Allen fighting for their first ring

Kobe trying to get his first ring on his own (not doing a good job these last two games though)

and to top it off, between the two most storied teams in NBA history WITH the Lakers coming back from a 3-1 deficit.

If Stern doesn't have a hand in these games, I sure bet he's praying for a game 7!

Well, an extra game wil sure make NBA some more money and there is never enough of that.

The NBA already made their money with their contract from the network. It's the network that makes money, not the NBA. The NBA gets paid regardless.

Aside from the collapse in Game 4, the Lakers have controlled this series. Kobe said it best... If somebody told them it takes 2 wins for the championship, they'll take it. Yeah baby. 2 wins. That's it. To Boston the series goes, where Boston is known to cheat.

I hope you are right.

I admit I am rooting for the Lakers, but at the same time I was saying that the Lakers didn't deserve to win, blowing their leads like that and playing like crap. But I really don't think there's any conspiracy here, just normal officiating that includes the few bad calls and such. I'm going with Lakers winning it all if they win game 6.

that doesn't include revenue generated from attending the actual game.

Yes, it is in the NBA's interest to provide the network with an entertaining series... of course this thing is gonna go at LEAST six. ;)

That is peanuts compared to the $2,000,000 (that's the amount I heard) per minute air time on spot commercials being made by the network.

Conspiracy nuttiness aside there were only a pair of truly questionable calls in this one -- the back to back loose ball fouls to put 5 on KG and Pierce. Just odd to suddenly call those in a game, and series as physical as this one has been. But neither call factored into the end result. There were other bad calls, but they mostly balanced and were all of the ref could easily have missed that type. KGs third or fourth foul was all ball, but with the swipe he took that's an easy one for a ref to miss as getting the arm. Kobe's last steal didn't get any ball at all so far as I could tell, but wiht the body wrap around it easily could have. Posey ran under a guy to draw a charge that should have been a blocking foul. Etc.

This is where conspiracy theories get lazy. Any and all mistakes become conspiracy. Luck becomes conspiracy. Even the Celtics seeing both KG (FTs) and Allen (open threes) choke becomes somehow conspiracy. But fact is if those guys play with the same fire that Pierce played with, they are champs right now. It was a Game 5 desperation game for the Lakers in the Lakers gym, that is way up there on tough ones to win. I was impressed at just how hard the Celtics fought to make it happen, Pierce in particular. It would be easy in that situation when the going started to get tough to just pack it in and say hey, we wanted to win it back on our home floor anyway.

There were some bad calls throughout Game 5, but nothing approaching terribly one sided refereeing in other suspect games (Kings-LAL, Miami-Dallas, Dallas-Houston etc.). In fact that makes me even more suspicious - the fact that games 4 & 5 (especially game 4) were called relatively fairly, just after Donaghy allegations were publicized. Anywho...

- Kobe steal/foul was exactly what Van Gundy called it - a desperation play and he managed to just pull it off. PP should have been more careful if anything. That was his second turn-over in the last 2-3 minutes with score tied or close.
- KG makes his free throws and it's a different game altogether.
- Can we all stop with Kobe is the best player/game's best closer stuff now? Apparently, he needs Shaq or referees bailing him out to win the big games. He wasn't even the best Laker player in the last 2 games.
