Bobby Jackson/Bonzi Wells Trade (Completed)

I just heard on the Kings Radio Network that it is rumored a deal has been struck between the Hornets and the Rockets that would send Bobby Jackson to Houston and Bonzi Wells to the Hornets. We shall see the full details tomorrow!

wow that would be a good deal for the hornets.

Chris paul
Bonzi Wells
Pedja
David West
Tyson Chandler

That would be a great starting lineup

If true, a great deal for Hornets!

Bobby is slowing down and anything he provides at the moment, Pargo can provide just as well!

Wells gives them another strong body and an impact player with some real toughness and post game. I suspect they would use Bonzi off the bench. Either way, they got better is this deal is true!

they might have, but not sure how this works for the Rockets, who are suddenly a swingman short. Also not sure why the rockets would help power up one of their big regional/divisin/conference rivals. Unless of ocurse it was all part of a larger three way deal to land Ron in Houston... ;)

Rockets sending Wells to Hornets?

The New Orleans Hornets have been determined to get Chris Paul a backup that'll ease his burden, fearful that he is logging just too many minutes this season.

For that reason, the Hornets are seriously considering a trade with the Houston Rockets that would bring point guard Mike James and Bonzi Wells to New Orleans for Bobby Jackson, Adam Haluska and Marcus Vinicius, two league sources said Wednesday night.

The emergence of rookies Aaron Brooks and Carl Landry have made James and Wells expendable in Houston. Jackson has struggled this season for the Hornets, and Haluska and Vinicius are rookie forwards who haven't cracked the rotation.

wow they trade only one rotation player and get Jamrs snd Bonzi back. They just increased talent and depth without giving a pick is pretty impressive

I am still not remotely sure how that makes sens for the Rockets -- giving the Hornets tow rotation guys for Bobby Jackson (is is almost done and plays the same position as Brooks) Adam who and a guy who sounds like a roman emperor? I assume that that must just be as a way to dump James' salary. But what a dump!

If the Hornets pull that off they have really strengthened themselves in a much more subtle way than the blockbuster deals. Radically stronger bench and next to nothing to do it.

OFFICAL:

The Rockets reached agreement on a deal that will send Bonzi Wells and Mike James to New Orleans to get guard Bobby Jackson, individuals with knowledge of the talks said.
The deal, which has grown to include minor involvement of the Memphis Grizzlies, is pending league approval, with a conference call is scheduled for today for the NBA to review the trade.
The Rockets will make the move to add Jackson as a veteran point guard to play behind Rafer Alston, sending Wells to the first-place Hornets while getting New Orleans to take on the two seasons and $12.7 million remaining on James' contract after this season.
Jackson is signed for $6.1 million through next season, potentially offering the Rockets the roster flexibility they did not have this season.
The Rockets will also receive rookie guard Adam Haluska and either their own or New Orleans' second-round pick, whichever is greater. They had previously been sending next season's second-round pick to Seattle to complete the trade for the pick they used to draft Carl Landry in the 2007 Draft.
Memphis will receive forward Marcus Vinicius

Looks like its going down.

Lol @ the Rockets, they ****ed up big time.

yeah, this I don't like at all for them. Especially with TMac's health. Next time he goes down its who? Luther Head? I'm assuming this was maybe a way to keep completely irrational franchise fave Chuck Hayes in the mix somehow as designated hustler with the stupid contract, but to quote Shaggy, "Zoinks!"

I don't see why the Rockets would do it, quite frankly.
Players including Mcgrady just couldnt stand Mike james at all and hated his game, including Adelman. This isnt a great deal for them but im sure they feel that they basically just traded Bonzi for Bobby straight up.

If i was a rocket fan then my reaction wouldnt be good because my understanding was they already had a ton of point guards.

They did. Still do. Just traded for another one. Question isn't their PG platoon, which is the same depth as before, just sub in Bobby for James. Its losing their backup power SG/SF on a team with a very fragile SG.

I know this was all about trying to make up for the Mike James mistake, but they just got a little weaker at a time everybody else out West is getting stronger -- including the team they just helped strengthen.

Lol. Weren't these two traded for each other before?

yeah im surprised it took this long in the thread for someone to mention that. thats the first thing i thought when i saw this.

it was Bobby J. for Bonzi straight up after the 05 season right?

Does Houston still have the salaries to make a Ron deal? If they can do Ron for expirings, Brooks (now expendable after BJax), and a 1st, they still have

Yao
Scola
Artest
T-Mac
Alston

With BJax, Battier, Hayes, Landry off the bench...

Snyder and Francis aren't enough $$ to match Ron, though, so maybe not...

I haven't followed the Hornets real close this season. If they were looking for a backup for Paul, why didn't they just use Bobby? Is he hurt or playing poorly or something? And if he's playing poorly, why would the Rockets want him over Bonzi (who is cheap and a better player)?

Someone please explain. :)

Weren't they traded for each other a while ago? I bet Bobby would love to play under Rick again.
Yes, they were. The only other instance I can think of, where the same players have been traded for each other twice, is Keith Van Horn and Tim Thomas.

BoJax hadn't been playing up to his usual standards. Maybe the Rockets hate Mike James that much? They also shave James' final year off the team salary.

This has salary dump written all over it and its sad that we're dumping salary on the cheapest owner in basketball (George Shinn).

Needless to say, I'm not too pleased right now. I hope BJax can bring something but dumping Mike James's ****ty contract seems to have been a big factor here.

:(

Well I think they still have the Sura ending contract to anchor a Ron deal (or any other deal), so they could still do that. But if they don't and this is stand alone, kind of a sad way to punctuate the long winning streak to get them back into contention -- weaken yourself, strengthen a rival you are chasing, just to save a few bucks rather than just tell Mike James to go home and sit on the couch if he was actually being disruptive.
