Alright, we got the 8th pick, options...

If we end up keeping the pick at #8 I'm starting to lean towards Smart as being the most likely selection. There's probably at least a 50% chance he'll be there and he might be the most ready to contribute player. Looking for comps Tyreke Evans really is the best I can find. Very similar college numbers, similar size, similar athletes, both kind of tweeners (less so a bit with Smart). Tyreke came in and had his best nba season right out of the gates.... Smart might be able to come in and do the same right away.

There are a few reasons why we might not be looking to draft Smart.... jump shooting being one, IT being another, and the fact that we didn't look to retain Tyreke being one as well. We'll see... can't wait!

How much would it suck if Joel Embiid falls to Lakers at #7, knowing the Kings won that meaningless late season game against the Lakers. If the Kings would of lost that game, they would have the 7th pick, instead of the #8 right now.

I hope that Embiid is drafted by Boston at #6 at the latest, keeping Embiid out of the Lakers hands.

But does LaVine know when to jump. Does he dribble well?j

.... and if the Kings would have scored 10 more points a game we might have won it all. Oh well.

Hopefully we could use our connections and snag Klay Thompson instead. I'd even throw in our 1st but we would need like a 2nd in return. I know Malone/PDA have bern rumored to b in love with him.
I like Klay and he'd fit well here, but as a 3rd option.

Getting/retaining a 2nd option is more important IMO, whether Rudy or someone else. Anyone thinking Klay can be a quality 2nd option is making quite a mistake on Klay's talent IMO. He's basically a high-end role player, one of the better glue guys we could get and an underrated defender, but he'll still make his living off the attention others draw.

Similar to Peja in that respect, needs threats like Webb/Bibby next to him to play off. Could he potentially have a season like Peja's 2004 season I think it was? Maybe, but as someone who's watched many of his games here in the Bay Area I haven't seen that level of ability from him yet. It would be quite tough to have a 2nd option in Klay who's not a great ballhandler and a worse passer.

Really struggles to create. Not sure he could create an omelette if you gave him three eggs and a frying pan.

gotta appease the fans who like to end the season in a rah rah right?

i watched his highlight video today. he doesn't impress me that much. i mean for the 8th pick i'd pick stauskas instead. klay's gonna want to be paid. we'd ooking at adding another high priced guy to the stable. cuz, gay?, thompson. that's alot of cap committed. we could have more flexibility with a younger guy on a rookie contract.

There is no way to know if we would have gotten the 7th pick or not.

I think this line of thinking will have to stop at some stage! We have been thinink along those lines for 8 years and it has not gotten us anywhere.

We have our franchise piece and its time to put together a team around him that is competing now, not in 5 years time. Hopefully we can keep Gay and if not, I am hoping we can get a genuine #2 and #3 to surround Cousins with. We do not have the luxury of waiting around for these kids to mature. We need impact players now! We cannot afford for a rookie to mature. We keep making the same mistakes over and over again. Last year this board was very confident that McLemore can come in and have an immediate impact and easily replace Reke. That worked out well for us didn't it?

I take some comfort in the fact that front office is very willing to trade the pick for a veteran. It tells me that they understand the urgency of the situation. They don't want to wait for the kids to develo. They want production now. Now with Cousins, Gay and K. Thompson, if you surround them with the right type of players, you have a play off team. You have to pay someone. Gone are the days of getting Peja like or B-Jax like bargains! Good solid player are borderlinemax players these days. Its the trend of the league and we cannot afford to be too selective at this particular point. We have some bad contracts on the roster. Some inheritted, some the doing of this very front office (Landry anyone?!) and these should not be the deciding factor in constructing a team, because if they are, we enter a constant cycle of mediocrity!

Klay Thompson is a known product. He would fit well here and would be benefitted a great deal playing off Cousins. There has been reported interest from PDA and if he is on the market, you make that move now while there is a chance. Reports were that we would go after him when he enters FA. Since Klay will be a RFA we would have needed to overpay anyway in order to scare away GSW from matching which likely would have been a max contract.

Money will need to be spent at some point in time so might as well do it when you have a chance to get a player and improve. There is no such thing as pefection so make a move while the sun shines. Klay is FAR FAR away from a max player but the market will dictate a pretty good salary for him....more than he is truly worth but to some teams he is worth more than to others. To us, he would be worth a fair bit. He is everything the front office hopes Ben McLemore turns into and he is still only 24.

We need proven, young veteran players and we need them now....no we needed them as lonh as 3 years ago. Last thing we need is a kid who might or might not be a productive NBA player.

I wouldn't mind seeing Saric in a Kings jersey after the draft. His team first mentality combined with his great basketball IQ, passing ability and shooting would be a welcome sighting in Sac. Although he's not close to being a defensive stopper, he really tries on the defensive end, this guy is a competitor who hates to lose.

It is highly unlikely that Šarić is coming over to the NBA for a few years. He has a deal ligned up with Efes in Turkey and will most likely sign with them for a number of years. He will come over to the NBA at some stage but its highly unlikely that it is next season. Similar to Mirotić whose rights are held by Chicago.

The Charlotte Hornets are looking for a back up PG and frontcourt depth (Isaiah Thomas/Jason Thompson) they also own the 9th and 24 pick I wonder if there's any deal in which we can nab that 24th pick from them.

IT isn't available for draft day trades. Not ours to trade. Also a bit more than PG depth for them. Might be better than Walker.

JT... here's the thing. There is a reason teams that want to win would be willing to trade later picks for established vets.

And we want to win now too. Still, shedding that contract has to be a goal, especially if we can't undo the Landry idiocy.

or if the kings would have lost ALL there games we would be looking at the number 2 pick or guaranteed top 4 pick. Stupid coaches and players trying to win games. Stupid kings fans for being happy about wins. Cuz we all know that specific win set the draft lottery.

Simmons tweeted more Rondo + Kings stuff today. It's Simmons, so ...

Still. He has connections in that organization. I know that for a fact. That is still my pipe dream.

Rondo for Williams, McLemore and #8 is still our best package. Replacing Williams for Thompson also works, but I would imagine the Celtics would prefer Williams.

I'm sure that would be enough to get Rudy back on board (they are friends) ... at least he'd opt in for one more year here and give this team a try.

Super pipe dream scenario would be to target Avery Bradley as the starting SG. Another Rondo friend (Rondo was the one that asked for Bradley to start over Ray Allen a few years back) ... would that friendship be enough to get Rondo to sign a contract extension? Couldn't hurt.

Please happen.

Been asking for Rondo for years! You want a guy that won't take shots from the #1 and #2 options, can run any offense, get into the paint whenever he likes, and find the open man 10/10 times, well look no further. Cuz, Rondo, and Gay is a good-great core. We would just need a new 2-guard, as Ben would most likely be included in any trade scenario.

Rondo and Bradley sing me up. Sign and trade IT for a backup sg and SF maybe get a late first rounder

Maybe IT to Orlando afflalo to Chicago we get #16 and Heinrich and lien taken off next years pick maybe.

Now that Rudy Gay is coming back, and for 19mil next season, i think we take Marcus Smart or Elfrid Payton in the draft. Unless we can somehow trade for Rondo

4th is better position than 8th no?

As draft day approaches my current take is that we'd draft Smart at #8 and hope to shop the pick if it's one of the forwards that falls to us instead. We're in a nice spot as there are a clear top 8 players in this draft... we're at the end of the tier. If we trade down I think there are a bunch of guys that interest us obviously. This looks like a deep draft.

Yes that's true. But I don't want to watch a team that would purposely try to go 0-82 just to get that 4th pick. If you do that's your prerogative.
Rudy Gay doesn't come back to a team like that. Cuz demands trade from a team like that. No free agent wants to sign with a team like that. Tanking is ok for a full rebuild with zero assets. We have assets.

Or if we had won 5 more games, including our loss to Cleveland, we would be picking first.

NEVER count on the lottery.

Soon or later people are going to have to realize that the problem with IT as starting PG has very little to do with his size and a lot to do with his style of playing basketball. I mean a joke is a joke, but seriously.
