To whatever degree that little things like facts and knowledge make a difference in your life and opinions, you may want to go take a look at the per 100 possessions data I posted on the main board over the last 4-5 days. Check SGs, pan down until you hit Reke. Pan over to the fourth column. Compare to every other SG in that list. Then you can get back to us, presumably without calling anybody a turdnose or buttlips.

While your defense of our glorious leader is breathtakingly noble, there was no part of the previous statement that indicated a negotiation. You simply have to stop, and our furry friend will just have to shrift for himself. Doing something competent draft day will be a nice start.

I would not have a problem drafting Payton but you would hope that if he is really the player we want, then we would trade down. Randle is definitely NBA player, a safe pick but he just does not fit with our franchise player.

I would prefer to trade the pick for a proven veteran who can help us win now.

If that is the guy they think is right and others are off the board, then they should take him. The risk with trading down and taking him is missing out on him. Having great defense out of the PG position would be great. Having length out of the PG position would be great. The top of that mock looks pretty accurate based on "reports".

If that's true (not saying it's not) why he is not a lock to be a top 5-10 pick how many other PG's that are 6'4 have two way upside other than John Wall, MCW GoatBrook and Livingston there's no one else.

He has the size and seemingly has great potential I guess MCW in a pee weak draft was the 11th pick
 
I believe the issue with Payton is that his shooting sucks?

Unless Ben turns it around, a Payton/McLemore backcourt will be cringe worthy...Bricking everything.

I say **** it and draft him anyways. A lot of scouts are saying his upside is Rondo. Might as well swing for the fences with 8.


Edit: Although if we CAN trade down for Payton, and also get a vet or late 1st (Kyle Anderson!)...That would obviously be best case.

I think most likely if we are really targeting Payton we will trade down to get him. The way this draft is shaping up, it appears to have eight obvious players at the top - none of which are Payton. (That's not to say Payton might not end up better than several of the top-8, just that there's a near-consensus top-8.) At least one of those top-8 players, whether it's Smart or Gordon or Vonleh or Randle is going to be available at #8, and somebody else is definitely going to want that player. Maybe we can snatch #14 and #18 out of Phoenix (and still be reasonably sure that Payton will last to #14). Maybe we can swap out #8 for Philly's #10 and get a couple of second-round picks with it (I mean, they clearly have enough). In fact, something like the #8 for Philly's #10, #32, and #39 would make a lot of sense if we weren't in love with the top-8 guy left for us.

Given our current roster, it would mean a stretch 4 at the PF position.
It's not exactly what I would prefer, but if the perimeter is (hopefully) a little more stout with solid defense at the 1 and, gulp, 2, and reliable at the 3/5, then I suppose that would have to be the move. That all depends on either Ben stepping up, which is possible, or getting a 3&D SG in free agency.
 
Staukas is looking better and better to me. Really hoping we resign IT and can cross pg off our list as him and Ray Mac can hold it down for the next several years. Looking at our roster if IT is resigned our biggest hole would be at sg and or sf depending on Gay. McLemore may or may not turn a corner next year but either way Staukas is a guy that can contribute. Our sg position was awful last year and needs to be upgraded.

I haven't seen Payton play, other than video. Randle seems the safer pick, but if they pick Payton I'm game. Whether he is perceived as a "reach" or not is immaterial to me. If the guy can play, he can play. And in this draft the guy at #8 could be no different than the guy at #16, so it makes the talk of "reaching" that much more immaterial.

On the mock draft, I'll believe Gordon to the Celtics when I see it.
 
I don't see the Kings passing on any PF prospect they like just because for now we are over loaded at the 4 and here's why. JT can play the backup 5 and Reggie Evans, Quincy Acy and Derrick Williams (not really a 4) are all essentially expiring contracts after this coming season.
 
I'd have no issue drafting Payton, but this is assuming that Smart is off the board. If he is, then sure, let's get Payton!
 
If we do end up trading down and end up with an extra 1st round pick, Adrian Payne is an interesting player who can stretch at the 4 and also shot block
 
Who the hell is Elfrid Payton? That post from Mike is seriously the first time i have ever seen or heard his name. Overseas guy?
