Alright, we got the 8th pick, options...

I just read on Rotoworld that SI.com is saying Ainge is locked in to taking Gordon at 6. Hard to believe that Ainge would tip his hand this early.....but if they did take Gordon, we may see Vonleh or Smart. I think Randle goes at 5 to Utah, Gordon 6 to Boston, Lakers could take either Smart or Vonleh, leaving us the other.

If Ainge takes Gordon, that would be GREAT for us.

Boston drafts Gordon. Lakers have a choice between Randle/Vonleh or Smart, depending on who Utah take. My gut says the Lakers take Randle, Utah Vonleh, and Smart is ours.

And if Smart, Vonleh & Gordon go before our pick? Trade away, get Ennis.

Also he doesn't really compliment any of our players (in my opinion). The perfect PF for us can block shots, rebound and defend. Gordon only really fills one of those three needs. I know he rebounded decently in college but I think it will be a lot tougher for him in the NBA and I can see his rebounds dropping to 5-6 a game.
This is what I see as the problem with picking Gordon, who I like and hope has a nice NBA career. He doesn't slot in with Gay and Cousins imho. I do think he is a 3 in the NBA. A lot of people criticized him going to UA because he would be utilized for the Cats best benefit instead of his own growth into a pro player. Great kid, works hard, doesn't fill an immediate need.

If Gordon moves into the top 8 that would leave us with Vonleh, Randle or Smart... I would pass on Vonleh and just trade the pick, but I would take Randle or Smart. Can't believe DX still has us taking McDermott. There is no way we pick him. At least I hope not. Usually DX is pretty spot on.

I'm still not sure about Gordon, but given that the Kings may not know on draft day whether or not Gay will be returning, I don't think you can draft based on perceived fit with Gay.

I call smokescreen.

It would be a pointless smokescreen. They know Philly like him but unless Philly take him at 3, there's no way they can trade back and still get him. So it'd be pointless. I wouldn't be surprised at all if Orlando take Smart. Not saying they definitely will, but they apparently really liked him last year too.

It's interesting that we had Tyreke who lacked a jump shot but could get to the basket and defend and now everyone wants to draft smart or exum who both lack jump shots but can get to the basket and defend. Would we also not resign either of them if they end up being any good? The point of this is to point out our redundancy. If we don't like those kinds of players then don't draft them. We've been screaming for a shotblocker for years now. How about we address that need in some way.

Should have kept Tyreke though. So I'd be happy to see someone similar to him "come back"

Personally I'll be happy with quite a lot of the "top" prospects I just really don't want another tweener.

The thing is, NBA draft is filled with pointless smokescreen. Example: Denver smokescreening that they'd take Caron Butler but instead selected Nickoloz Tskitishvili when no team ahead of Denver was going to draft that kid. Cleveland smokescreening that they really liked Alex Len instead of Anthony Bennett when they already controlled the draft with the top pick. And sometimes the smokescreen comes not from the team but from reports/analysts who add their own bias to the process. The bottom line is, I doubt that Orlando picks Smart over Exum.

I bet those picking McDermott at 8 will change that as we get closer.

And there are more, too. And they change and will change again. Fun to watch. I don't know any of these players and of course I have no say in the pick. I read the Board stuff with interest. We need at least 3 more players for next year and maybe more. In two months we'll know more about the roster for next year.

If be pissed if we took McDermott but I know we won't I'm pleased with any of Gordon, Payton, Ellis, and whoever falls smart/randle if Boston takes Gordon.

They decided he wasn't worth what New Orleans was willing to pay him. Not necessarily that they didn't want him

To be fair though we asked Evans to play a position he had no business playing. At least Smart and Exum have genuine PG experience, not just "handle the ball and score whenever possible" experience like Evans had his freshman year.

I think it's just people wanting a defensive PG after surviving a year with IT. Smart can guard PGs in his sleep. We shall see though! I want a defensive shotblocker too, but unless we can trade up to get Embiid there really isn't any other shotblocking big man in this draft near our pick.

I have been becoming more interested in Vonleh though. I didn't pay much attention to him during the season, but after reading up on him quite a bit I think his blocks will translate to the NBA. I can see him averaging 1.5 a game which is fine from the PF spot. Not totally sold on him yet but I am warming to the idea a bit. He's a good kid.

I forgot to ask this but what do you all think of Adreian Payne? When watching the DX video with Adreian Payne vs Vonleh I realized that I had totally forgot about Payne. I was watching him last year and totally forgot about him skipping the draft to play his senior year.

Is this a guy you all would trade down for?

I like him, but fact is, he's 23 and if we wanted we could trade for another player with actual NBA experience around the same age and and plays the same game.

Besides doing a Sanders trade I would love a trade of 8/JT or DWill for Afflalo/12. I don't think Gay leaves us if he sees that we could go into next season with a core of
Gay/Cousins/Afflalo. We would have our number 1,2,3 scoters right there and Gay/Afflalo can both post up there men.

I could be way off here, but the 'experts' who are picking McDermott for the Kings just sound absurd to me. I can't see that pick. At all.

Yet basketball guy after basketball guy is calling it. It's not happening. I'd be shocked.

Yes.....been looking at that and they are going off that PDA said they are looking for outside shooting but the'experts' are just way off. I find it interesting that there is more and more chatter about Gordon going early in the 4-7 spots. Different guys saying Ainge won't let Gordon get past them....on one hand I think it's just smokescreen on the other hand Gordon has tremendous upside if he can develop some offense.....he's a wildcard

I don't see it (McDermott), I would have thought considering the reported interest in Klay a guy like Stuaskas would have been more appealing.

but they haven't worked out either player (yet) so who knows.

I think McDermott will be a good role player though.

But that's why you don't go after a guy whose upside is a good role player when you have the potential for more in a guy like Gordon on the board.....who if taps into his potential, may be an all- star type.....lots of ifs there but McDermott, don't see any star potential but maybe a Korver, which isn't anything to turn away from but still...
