I remember mine vividly...
I was in Anaheim because our orchestra plays at Disneyland every year around March/April. The Kings were playing the Celtics, but during the day we were out, so I couldn't watch the game.
At night, ESPN replayed it, so I stayed up by myself watching the replay (everyone else went to sleep, as we had an early performance the next day). It was just an ordinary regular season game.
That is, except for Chris Webber hitting a 3 off the glass for the game winner. Final score, 93-92. I yet out a whoop so loud I woke the rest of the students in my suite.
To this day, it was the only taped game that I could sit through watching with the excitement of a real game.
Did a little digging, and found the box score. No video on youtube, I'm afraid. http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/recap?gid=2003040402
One of my favorite memories involves a trip to Arco for a playoff game. A friend of a friend had decided to make it a special event for his parents, and hired a limo. We all arrived at the stadium in style, and as we got out of the car you could tell people were trying to figure out if we were "anyone" in particular.
We were playing the Mavericks that game and, as luck would have it, a Mavs fan in a Nowitzki jersey, was sitting right next to Kingsgurl. (Yes, this gets better...)
Maloof Sports handed out plastic megaphones for that Sunday afternoon game. (Something I don't think they've done since.) For the first half of the game, the Mavs held the lead and the Mavs fan was an obnoxious pain in the posterior.
In the second half, however, the Kings came alive and Bibby and Webber started to take over the game completely. That's when the megaphone really came into play. With every successful pass, every basket, etc. Kingsgurl would turn to the now rather sheepish looking Mavs fan, hold the megaphone up and ... well, "cheer" doesn't begin to describe what she did but you get the idea.
The poor Mavs fan tried to stand up for his team, but he was clearly outnumbered. His girlfriend started beating on him to shut up, and - during a particularly good part of the early fourth quarter - the Mavs fan and his girlfriend left the game.
We went on to win. It was 2002. The feeling in Arco that day was something I will never ever forget. I can only hope and pray those times will come again for this new generation of Kings.
First among many for me is game 3 of the 1996 playoffs. We made the playoffs as an 8 seed for the first time in forever against the Gary Payton-led Seattle team. Then we won one of the games in Seattle and came home tied 1-1. When the teams came out for warmups, it was the loudest I've ever heard ARCO. The energy level was amazing.
