Just saw The Dark Night as well. I loved how it was so choked full of movie, yet so refined. It never dragged for a second.
Its going to be bad when (when, not if) Ledger wins his Oscar for this role and people say it is only because he died. It is not. His performance is literally scary good.
I can safely say I've seen two of my top 20 all-time movies today in WALL-E and The Dark Night. Was a good day.

I was fully prepared to be underwhelmed by Ledger, just because that amount of hype and martyrdom is exactly the type of thing to make me a skeptic, but it really is an amazing performance.

I saw the Dark Knight today as well. I agree with everything said above. I was really hoping they could nail this one, and they did. Best superhero comic ever made. It fits Batman perfectly. This is they way the Joker was meant to be played if you ask me.
And Harvey Dent was also well done.

I didn't really like him in Casino Royale, and would have preferred Ewan McGregor, being a Star Wars fan.
That having been said, I think the new Bond movie has the makings to be pretty good, judging from the trailer I saw last night.
Harvey Dent was very well done. That role kind of snuck up on me, as a matter of fact.
And Heath Ledger does Joker even better than Jack, if you ask me. This movie was amazing.

Jack's version was just embarassingly annoying and just plain awful, if you ask me. I just couldn't get in to the previous Batman series much at all because of the lousy way the baddies were portrayed. The onl one I think I really cared for at all is Michelle Pfeiffer as Catwoman - she did a good job. Other than that -just - ick. But this new round - they are nailing it. Awesome, awesome job.
Most people look at Jack Nicholas as the gold standard when it comes to playing The Joker. I agree that Ledger blew any other evil villain, especially from a comic book, out of the water.

Yeah, I know, but I don't understand why.
That's because prior to Jack, there was just Sid Ceaser playing a glorified clown on a spoof TV show.
Now Ledger is the Gold Standard, in fact, it's almost as thogh they should just retire the character, like retiring a number in sports.
To me, there are now three Gold Standards of movie villains:
Hannibal Lector. Silence of the Lambs.
Darth Vader. The Empire Strikes Back
The Joker: The Dark Knight.

I like. Although I'd add Mr. Potter from It's A Wonderful Life....although I'm not sure if I can put him above Ledger's Joker.

Hancock. A brave attempt to go in a non-formulaic direction, and what was on the screen looked really good, but the nature of the story made it a bit hard to "get" any of the characters. Meh.

No, just a true non-conformist.
Hype will get me in the door, but after the lights go down I regain my staunch independence. But it was a good film. Just a flawed one. But I should let the hype spin on, because its far better that something dark and psychological like this get overhyped and have all the impressionable kids identifying it as a great movie than having the same hype accompany some shallow pandering piece of summer tripe.

Thank you!! Someone else who agrees with me! This movie had lots of potential, but it failed miserably in plot, dialog and character development.
Don't get me wrong, I love the return to a darker and more realistic batman, but give me some reasons to care about the characters. I could go on and on about this, but I’m with you, other than Ledger, it was nothing special.

And starring Darth Vader too, who apparently thinks cornering the market on selfish teenage moodiness and absolutely atrocious line deliveries is the key to a secure future in the biz. Rapidly becoming a least favorite "actor". Hey at least Rachel Bilson looked really cute in it -- knew I should have bumped her up in my queue in the babe draft.
Walking Tall -- sigh again. anybody who knows anything about the original knows that it was a hard edged, dark, and downright nasty piece of 70s cinema -- this remake starring the utterly unintimidating The Rock however is none of the above, and again is just dumb. Dumb. Dumb. Dumb. Dumb. Dumb.

You watched the whole thing? I lasted only about 20 minutes. At this point, all Hayden's dialog should be overdubbed by James Earl Jones for his movies to be even barely watchable.

OK, so you really have to stop just listing the movies and go into some detail. Kinda like the draft threads.
Actually I saw it today as well.
Lots of action, it really never lets up. He looks too young to have a son that old in the movie. Not much of a plot/story, really, but in a Mummy movie are you really looking for one? Good summer popcorn flick. If you liked previous Mummy movies, you will probably like this one.
