Hey, I'd be proud to be on that list...some great names in that mix.

After Bynum decides and the possible Teague/Jennings situations get worked out I'm sure Monta is going to just have to take the best he can get.
Free agents are running out of big money slots. Monta and/or AK47 may have to settle for modest deals in the 7-9 range
I really wonder about Pekovic, though. he's an RFA, but still, I would have thought he'd be gathering a lot more interest. clearly the best player out there at the moment, imo.

Ellis has lost his mind. Notice how he never mentioned anything about the defensive side of the ball?

John Salmons, Sacramento Kings. Salmons is a nice wing player that the Kings oddly gave a large and long contract to. Now they have the just drafted Ben McLemore and they are reportedly in the hunt for Monta Ellis (Atlanta remains the front runner), so why have Salmons in the picture. Salmons is due $7.5 million in 2013-14, and $1 million guaranteed in 2014-15

Hope article is right that Atlanta is still front runner
Oh I completely agree, it's entirely an offensive stat. PER was brought up in this case to question Ellis' credentials as a top level scorer. Plus, as jalfa said, we've already discussed Ellis' defense at length and it's pretty much consensus that he is somewhere between bad and abysmal.
Gotcha. Just didn't know if u were using to compare a player's complete game
Again, I'm lukewarm on signing Monta, but where is all of this horrible/bad/inept defense banter coming from? He's not that bad defensively, and probably better against PG's than SG's if that's where the Kings want to play him. Also, Malone will probably run some 1-2-2 zone (like he built at GS) and Monta would actually play well in that zone. He gambles quite a bit, but he also tips a lot of passes and disrupts. I think Malone would also light a fire under his MontAss.
I think it's a combination of limited upside (though he's definitely solid) and the market knowing that Minnesota is definitely going to pay him and thus would match. And I think he wants to stay with the Wolves.
Signing a guy to an offer sheet only to have his current team match means sitting on your hands for nothing as other FAs are gobbled up and other trades being discussed. If Pekovic sits around for too long without signing a new deal, I wouldn't be surprised if some team goes after him though.
Yeah, Ellis is actually a pretty aggressive defender when he wants to be. He also holds his ground against significantly bigger SGs surprisingly well. My issue is (and always has been) his highly inefficient offensive game.
But just in terms of roster fit, if Monta is signed it would give the Kings the following guards:
Monta Ellis, Greivis Vasquez, Isaiah Thomas, Ben McLemore, Ray McCallum, Marcus Thornton, Jimmer Fredette and even John Salmons if he's pressed into action as a SG.
Now clearly either Salmons or Thornton needs to be moved (or in Salmon's case amnestied) but that would still leave 6 or 7 guards on the roster fighting for two spots. More importantly only Vasquez and Thomas are really PGs with the others all being combos or exclusively shooting guards.
McCallum may not make the team but the others are under contract and Thomas, Greivis, Salmons and Fredette are all ending contracts. If PDA is really pushing hard for Ellis then other moves must be in the works.
At the very least Thomas would need to be dealt. He's a cheap and productive asset at the moment and he'd likely lose nearly all his playing time which would lower his trade value.
We'll see.
If Monta does come here me thinks:
PGs: Vasquez, IT
SG: Monta, BMC
McCallum does not make the team.
With Fegan involved, I'm sure Monta won't sign anywhere for a little while. Wouldn't be surprised if he ends up in Houston with Howard, if any team will take Lin in a 3-way. Fegan will try and get him on a good team that needs another scorer.
Now that I think of it the reason you probably hire a new agent is that your not happy with any of the present scenarios, including most likely our final offer. I just wonder what power Fegan has. How can he drum up demand that the previous agent was unable to, I don't understand that? Who is now going to be seeking a s/t with Milwaukee that wasn't before?
Have you heard the front office talk about McCallum? I'd bet on IT getting traded before McCallum not making the team.
Maybe it was his old agents idea to opt out and now he's finding out that he won't be making as much money as he could have, so he fired his agent?

No way... IT is a fluke 2nd rounder. No way they keep an unproven 2nd rounder over IT who has already proved he can play in the NBA and he is a decent man on man defender.

The Mavericks don’t expect to do any more summer shopping for backcourt help.
“That’s probably a long shot,” president of basketball operations Donnie Nelson told reporters Wednesday.
In other words, don’t hold your breath for Monta Ellis to become a Maverick.
