We've made an offer to Monta?

Right there with you bud.

Edit: I have come around because I think we need talent any way we can get it.
I am leaning in this direction but certainly there are players available that fit better. If Monta is simply a way to hit the minimum salary, which in a way is what you are saying, it will demand a bunch of trades and he only is an asset if he doesn't cost us another asset. My head hurts. :) I am tired of adding guards and there is no award to the team that has the most guys at or under 6'6".

I dunno if I'm the only one on here rooting heavily for Monta... getting him at $9mil per would be an absolute steal imo.
Or an absolute disaster. Everything I'd read (and bot even going into the legal difficulties he had a couple of years back) seems to indicate he's ego-driven to the point where he might be the worst possible thing we could add to our roster. If we're gonna build the team around DFC, we don't need somebody else there who thinks he's THE GUY. At this point, rebuilding the culture and establishing positive energy AS A TEAM is first and foremost when considering adding someone like Elli'...

If giving Monta $9 mil is considered a waste which I suspect is the attitude of many people, I'd rather waste it on an aging Daly.

No way... IT is a fluke 2nd rounder. No way they keep an unproven 2nd rounder over IT who has already proved he can play in the NBA and he is a decent man on man defender.
You don't seem to be taking into account that IT has trade value (probably the highest trade value remaining on our team not named Cousins or McLemore) and that the front office seems pretty open to tearing the place down to the studs and starting over. I would be surprised if IT is not traded this offseason.

It isn't just a matter of whether Thomas is a better player than McCallum. It's highly doubtful that McCallum is as good this year as Thomas was as a rookie and even more doubtful that he is a better player than Thomas is currently.

But Thomas is also in the last year of his rookie deal. So while he's currently a bargain and highly productive relative to his contract, the question is whether the FO sees him as a King beyond this season and is willing to pay him accordingly. The trade for Vasquez and the flirtation with Ellis tells me that D'Allesandro is not looking at Thomas as a long term solution either as a starting PG OR a bench sparkplug (which is where I see his best role).

So if Thomas is likely on his way out it makes much more sense to trade him this offseason (or at worst by the trading deadline) to get something in return rather than let him walk for nothing. Because of his small cap number, he'd likely be paired with another player if he is dealt.

Personally I wanted to see Evans/McLemore/Iguodala/Patterson/Cousins with Thomas as a 6th man, change of pace guard and Thompson getting most of the backup PF/C minutes in a nice 8 or 9 man rotation.

Que cera cera.
I don't think it means anything. There is no picture. It's a Rorschack test.

Man oh man, does anyone else see us dumping Salmons to give him the $ he wants? Not a good move IMO.
Yeah we really don't want to bid against ourselves here. Obviously no one is willing to pay him the deal he wants. Don't go out if your way to do it.

Just in case people wonder how he would fit on the team, check out what happened between him and Larry sanders in the playoffs last year and imagine cousins in the sanders role.

Cousins would eat Elli'(s') lunch.

Mark Jackson also cited Monta leaving as a big part of the culture change in GSW's huge turnaround last season.

Yet, why is Vivek supposedly so in love with Monta?

He was a part owner of the Warriors and knew Monta first hand. Why does Vivek, a man by all accounts is a smart dude, think so highly of Monta? I accept that Vivek is an IT guy and not necessary a bright basketball mind, but I really wonder why he would want him on our team and make an offer.

We don't know that Vivek is (has) pursued Elli' and/or made him an offer. Based on the other players who have actually been brought on board, Monta would be the obnoxious jerk in the crowd. I'm still not convinced in any way that the Kings were/are seriously considering him. With a plethora of reasons why we wouldn't, I've yet to see much that would tip the scale in the other direction - especially from Vivek's point of view.

As far as Vivek's interest in Monta is concerned, I'm not sure. But if I'm allowed to go out on a limb, I think it may be related to the manner in which Joe Lacob was booed at Chris Mullin's jersey retirement ceremony. If you recall, the Warrior fans wanted Monta traded so they could have a bigger backcourt. Trading Monta would allow Klay Thompson to start so they not only traded Monta but brought in one of the better centers that the W's have ever had in Andrew Bogut.

The rest was confusing though. For whatever reason, the fans booed Lacob out of respect for the outgoing Ellis. Supposedly, they thought highly of his work ethic and what he meant to the team. Being that Vivek was still a part of the Warriors ownership group, he most likely took notice of how popular Ellis was and as a result, sees a chance to add a "popular" player here.

There's also the thought that he can steal away some Nocal fans who were Ellis supporters. But that's just a long shot guess on my part.

As far as his free agency is concerned, I'm surprised that he and Fegan haven't looked at Philadelphia. They're at least $15 million under the cap and have no other SG on the roster other than an aging Jason Richardson who most likely won't be ready for the start of camp. If nothing else, Monta helps you if you're in tank mode since according to this thread, he hurts the team. Plus, they need to get to the minimum cap level at some point and with all the free agents having signed already, Monta is the last one out there who can get you to the $52 million payroll level.

Interesting post. I believe there's much more to our Monta interest then Vivek taking a flyer on converting some Warrior fans. I'm expecting Monta to sign with the Hawks at this point... our interest might just be in attempting to acquire a good player at a reduced rate. I'm sure they view Monta as an upgrade over Thornton and Marcus as a tradeable asset as well.

I think they feel they can mold him into a legitimate top tier lead guard. They might feel his bad traits like chucking at a bad rate can be curtailed, while feeling he might have the capacity to flourish ball in hand like he did in his prime in GSW

Jeff teague signed offer sheet with bucks. I expect them now to work out a sign and trade with Atlanta for Ellis. I imagine atlanta will offer him the most $ at this point being 17.9 mil under the cap.

For some reason I can see us being attached to Monta but only in a 3 way sign and trade where we get another player and Monta were to go to a team like the Hawks.
